Dutch, being a good neighbor is one thing, but when you've spent as much time, labor and money as you have in order to have a good hunting season on "Your Own Property" to have it Destroyed by your neighbors cattle because they're too lazy to come get them, at some point they're considered abandoned and become yours! Contact that neighbor in writing and give them 48 hours to retrieve their cattle or they become yours.
@MSG17763 күн бұрын
Absolutely right. Another tact is to just do you and if one of those cows gets in the way and dies as a result of your lawful hunting on YOUR property, then so be it. Being neighborly is a two way street if you're trying and they're not...then no reason for being neighborly anymore!!
@samanthaorchard61743 күн бұрын
Enough is enough you have been putting up with this for way too long. First of all, you should contact your local extension office and then contact your local law enforcement people. When they destroy hunting ground that to me is just wrong when you have told them about this problem. Since you have proof that the cows knocked over your deer feeder, I have your neighbor reimburse you for damages.

Reach out for legal advice. I had a tresspasser that did property damage with a four wheeler. He was charged with a Felony and required to pay damages. Those cows are damaging your property. The owner in not retreiveing them is causing tresspass with willful damage. There is being neighborly and being a rug, you choose.

Michael Martin has the right idea, fill the freezer. Warn the owners first by letter. If no response, feel free. Cows can be a real nuisance. That's why they should be fenced. Then again, you could build a hot fence and keep em. Beef is expensive, at least here in CT. Just saying.

You can take legal action, it is your land, sounds like they have been using this land for years, way before you purchased the land. They feel entitled to the use of the land ... You may need to let them know they are trespassing, a lawyer's input needs to be utilized.

@bethhayes84273 күн бұрын
I agree that the cows need to be gone. But cows don't keep deer away. We have thousands of cows within a mile of our house. We have 2 that graze right in the middle of our hoses and the neighbors' cows. We have hundreds of deer around us. Have seen 28 at one time in the cow pasture. Had a young buck bed down in the corner of or pasture near the house a couple of evenings ago. Looked right at me standing on the porch and laid down. Our road is only a mile long, and 2 have been hit. So don't guess the cows bother them much.😊

Dutch, we have had cow problems too. Too keep the deer happy and the cows away we put up a circle fence around the feeders. Three feet and three barbwire strands works. Deer jump in and eat. Being raised on a farm and having cows and horses the deer pay little attention to either one. Many times I have seen cows and deer both eating hay together. I had this same issue. The neighbor said they were not his cattle, until I showed him some game camera photos, and told him that if they were not his, then they would become mine, and I LOVE STEAK! Then he wanted me to pay HALF the cost of a new fence FOR HIM!!! I informed him that I was not paying for ANY FENCE since I did not have any livestock, AND, that I had been in the process of REMOVING SOME OLD CROSS FENCE that was on my farm when I bought it. And that if his cattle got onto me then there was the real possibility that they could go for miles as there was no other fence around. They refused to compensate for the cows grazing on my property, nor for any damage done to my property. So.......my neighborly attitude of calling the owner to inform him that his cattle was out has come to an end. The cows will be escorted off of my property, and the direction they take is their call.
