AN INTERABLED couple have hit back at online trolls who have criticised them for their decision to start a family. Alyssa and Jimmy, both 30, from New York, USA, met online in the summer of 2013, and soon fell in love. But the couple has sadly had to deal with some judgement, because Alyssa is disabled due to a spinal cord injury. She explained how people make hurtful assumptions about her capabilities, and have even implied that Jimmy has a "fetish" for people in wheelchairs. Thankfully the pair also have a lot of online support and try to focus on the positives. But when Alyssa began documenting her pregnancy with their first baby, Luke, who was born in May, on Instagram, where she has 112,000 followers, she was met with some criticism, with strangers calling her "irresponsible". Jimmy said: "They don’t know our situation and how much she is capable of. She's an amazing girlfriend, fiancé, now wife and mother and I just can't wait to keep growing as a family together."

I don't understand why people think that because someone is disabled their not allowed to have love in their lives or have any kind of life at all. I've seen plenty of able bodied people who should have never had children and some who've pretty much wasted their lives. I don't think this couple needs to worry about what a few haters think. @grape_ju1ce 2 жыл бұрын
@@Sophia-wz9qf I was thinking the same thing. So I did some research about the use of forceps while delivering a baby. It says that doctors do use forceps to grab the baby’s head and gently guide them out of the birthing canal (you can look it up if you want). I guess the doctor who was delivering her grabbed the wrong spot and when he tried to guide her out, he maybe squeeze the forceps too hard (I’m not 100% sure it’s just what it sounds like that’s how it happened but I could be wrong).

I have two questions. First, how dangerous is it for her to have a baby with her very tiny frame? Second, what if she is home alone with the baby and it started choking on something small it got it’s hands on or doing something dangerous like poking stuff in electrical outlets or pulls a bookcase down trying to climb on it and it’s crushing the child to death? How is she going to get out of her chair and start giving the baby the Heimlich maneuver or lift the bookcase off the baby? How will she chase the baby around when it’s a toddler and sprint to catch it if they’re at a park and it decides to run after it’s runaway ball into the street? Kids can be hard enough to keep up with and keep out of trouble when you’re able bodied. There are problems with having a baby when you’re tiny, weak and wheelchair bound. Saying that isn’t “jealousy” or “hate” just because it doesn’t feel good to hear. To me that’s just logic.
@missdaydreamss
@missdaydreamss 2 жыл бұрын
no your comment is ignorant. her wheels are her legs. she can easily roll up to her baby and there are other options. a live in nanny. people like you don't see other perspectives at all. it's hilarious and she's not even that tiny and even if she is. alot of little people give birth.
@carolinegallegos_
@carolinegallegos_ 2 жыл бұрын
@@missdaydreamss yeah because of the baby gets somewhere her chair can’t drive to or somewhere too low for her chair she obviously can’t get out of her chair to get to her baby. If they can afford a live in nanny then they should get one but someone who can’t even dress themselves will not be able to chase after a baby or toddler and keep them out of danger. That’s not ignorance, that’s logic. Sorry you can’t handle the truth. It’s easier to be delusional and attack me rather than accepting reality isn’t it?

People can do anything they want to that they want to do, regardless of their disability. I am autistic with CRPS which limits my mobility and causes chronic fatigue; I am also a single parent to 3 amazing young adults. And I have a job outside of the home. Yes, over the years I have needed some outside help, especially as I do not have extended family, but my kids are thoughtful, socially aware and they know they are loved. We are not a huggy/ touchy family, but there are many ways of showing affection. In my (significant) experiences, children of disabled parents are aware of their caregiver’s capacities and limitations, and they recognise that despite these limitations, their parent/s are often much more likely to be involved in supporting the childrens pursuits, the parents make significant efforts to stay abreast of school and extra curricular activities; but also the disabled parents in my network have foci on supporting their childrens independence, goal setting, and resilience. Further, expectant parent/s who live with disabilities or chronic health concerns have the tendencies to go into parenthood very well read, and extremely well prepared. The child of this family is fortunate indeed.

My mom had polio at 1 yr old, went through many operations, weird things back in the day like leeches being put on her legs to suck the bad blood out!! Anyway, she was very religious. She prayed to God, if I never walk please bless me with children. God blessed her with 8 healthy children, mom did everything in the home and taught us the same. God bless the both of you.

That's insane that the doctor caused this when her mother gave birth.. the doctor should pay compensation for what he did. She should sue for malpractice
@Javielle
@Javielle 2 жыл бұрын
It's either the baby dies in the birth canal or they are pulled out with forceps. It's not malpractice. It happens as the infant's spine is like a noodle and bends easily... I had the umbilical chord around my neck and turned blue, pulled out by my head = life-long scoliosis. Do not attack doctors for saving a life.

I’m a woman who can have a baby (I already have an 11 year old daughter and to me it’s just logic to question how she’s going to handle a baby and then a rambunctious toddler when she can’t even dress herself or get out of her chair. If anything happens to the child while she’s home alone with it she won’t be able to render aid or do anything to help it herself. How can you be a caretaker when you yourself require a caretaker? That’s not jealousy that’s logic.

As a mother, I say it's your life do what makes you happy. Is the baby going to go thru a stage of wondering what it would be like to not have you in that chair? And all the things your going to have to do from the side lines? Possibly! But it's all he's going to know. And the things he's going to GAIN, is Soo much greater than anyone that hates on your decisions could possibly understand! And I'm sure that he wouldn't change it for the world. You are brave. You are strong. You are an inspiration! 💜💪🏻💯🙏

I have found that sometimes people say things out of ignorance. As you know no two disabilities are alike or affect people in the same way. I look forward to watching your journey into motherhood /parenthood and meeting your little one. 🤗

I don't think physical mobility is a precursor for parenthood. I was at uni with a gorgeous young girl who was confined to a wheelchair. During renovations at the uni I used to houst her over my shoulder and carry her up the stairs to some classes while another classmate would take her wheelchair. She met a guy and was soon pregnant. I knew they'd make beautiful babies. Anything is possible if your heart is in it.

A few years ago a mean lady I know said that I should never have kids because I’m disabled (I have a pretty severe case of P.O.T.S.) Our daughter just turned 3 weeks old on Tuesday :) I once saw a video of a mom who couldn’t use her arms and put on diapers with her teeth! I’m able to take care of our baby wonderfully so far, and I’m SO glad I didn’t miss out on getting to meet the little love of my life, because I listened to people who told me what I shouldn’t do or can’t do because of my physical disability. I just have to find another way to do something, sometimes. “Don’t let anyone who hasn’t been in your shoes tell you how to tie your laces.” You rock, mama! Wishing you and your family all the joy in the world :)

That’s so nice, it’s really a blessing to be a mother, God allow this to happen, so don’t pay any attention to what some people are saying, there are some of us who are very judgmental, none of us know what God has in store for us, just trust God to carry you through, He sees you and even knew that you would be in a wheelchair and that’s ok with Him...He sees you as normal, God be with you on this journey and be the best mom and Dad you can ever be. God bless and we all are family and family cares...whether near and far. Peace be unto you 🌹❣️🙏🏾

They are going to be excellent parents and their child will be more open and accepting because of their parents’ situation. The only thing I don’t agree with is where the child bears the responsibility of “carer “ too young, before they are the child, and don’t get to live themselves. But it sounds like these two won’t let that happen.
