Her mother’s doctor was truly a blessing. He gave mom words of wisdom and in essence, permission, that allowed her to raise her outside of a protective bubble. Letting her grow up with freedom as well as pain from injury helped shape her for the world of hard knocks she would one day independently live in. Had she been kept highly sheltered, she would never know what joy the world had to offer. Instead she would live in constant fear of pain from injury. She may have never attempted to leave the safety of her home. Instead she travels the world ! Her doc and mother are a huge part of her success, mindset a d perseverance. Let’s not forget, not too long ago and even in rare occasions today, brittle bone was mistaken for child abuse. Many innocent young parents found themselves in jail due to missed diagnosis. She’s very fortunate that she had such a wonderful support system. Yes, nature gave her a disability, but nurture gave her courage and taught her she could do anything!

Couldn’t agree more, if you’re born disabled the kind of life you lead it’s 100% shaped by the way in which you are brought up. Like Kirsten I was fortunate enough to have parents who encouraged me to get out in the world and live, they didn’t wrap me in cotton wall, they didn’t let me use my disability as an excuse, they pushed me to be the best I could possibly be and although I know (especially as I’m now a mother myself) how incredibly hard it must’ve been for them to watch me go out into a world which wasn’t designed for people like me, they never tried to hold me back and never showed their fear. Because of this I went out and earned my money from the age of 14, used that money to travel the world (bearing in mind this was 20 years ago when there were no mobiles, email or social media on which they could contact me) I left home at 18 and went to uni on the other side of the country, I lived abroad, I made mistakes, I got hurt, occasionally I had my heart broken and my spirits crushed but I always got back up again. If it hadn’t been for them I wouldn’t have done any of those things and therefore would not have had the life experiences I’ve had, met my husband, had my son or be the person I am today. I owe them everything and I will never be able to thank them enough for the sacrifices they made.

As a woman with a disability, I admire you as a couple. I opened up about my disability to the guy I am dating after 3 months of talking. It is not an easily visible condition, only I can feel it. Most people could never imagine the amount of pain I have gone through because I am not in a wheelchair (I have been in the past). When I told him, he was so neutral. He reacted as if I told him I have a dog or if I told him I like flowers. I was scared because all he said was okay, smiled and kept talking normally. I asked him what do you think? Any questions, comments? His answer was "Nothing that you tell me will change my mind about you. When you fall in love, you do, unconditionally." I told him it was progressive, to which he answered "Let's not bother thinking about the future. Whatever happens, we will deal with it as a married couple and God will guide us through the journey." Never settle down for anything less than what you deserve!

Oh well, things didn’t work out with this guy. We weren’t meant to be and had different goals and aspirations in life. Our personalities weren’t too compatible. However, my disability wasn’t the reason for our breakup. He respected me and saw me as a woman and not a person with a disability. Simply things didn’t work out for other reasons. Just like he didn’t care about my disability, there are other men out there that will respect you and love you for who you are. Don’t settle down for one man just because he accepts your disability. I see many women do this because they think nobody else will want her. Trust me, there ARE MANY MEN WHO WILL WANT YOU. Keep your options open and look for a person who’s compatible with you and who you feel comfortable with. Be selective cuz girl, you’re so worth it! ❤️

Yeah nothing is impossible like only if you're a woman, but a woman especially a disabled one would never ever accept a disabled man. Like would this disabled woman ever date and marry a disabled man, well I don't think so. A disabled woman would always feel entitled to an able bodied guy and argue it's her preference to disguise the fact she's shallow.Just the other day I watched a dating programme of a disabled woman going on a date with a disabled guy.She complained that they have nothing in common lol, really they're both disabled. She never gave him a chance and rejected him instantly and told her parents after the date she wants a big strong guy who's over 6ft tall and isn't disabled. Women have it easy when it comes to finding love and men aren't always so lucky as women demand perfection from them.

Great Story by two courageous ppl who are truly and deeply in love. I have so much respect for them and especially this truly remarkable woman who continues to live her life on her own terms and doesn't let her disability have dominion over her life. I dated a girl fifteen years ago who was disabled. She taught me so much. They say that God puts ppl in our lives for a reason. Little did I know that twelve years later I would become disabled. Remembering so much of what she taught me has helped me to learn how to live and that there are very is very little I can't do. The only one who can stand in my way is me!!! Again what a truly inspiring story!!! I wish both of them all of God's blessings for a happy life together.
