The way you feel about re visiting Greece is how I felt about Rome too many people 😊 welcome back and glad you enjoyed your capsule wardrobe 😅
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
I’ve heard that about Rome, but my son is there now and he said it was amazing. I guess it depends on your tolerance for crowds and long, long queues!

Glad your capsule travel wardrobe worked out. Regarding soggy bathing suits, I like a lightweight skirt as one of my bottoms to pop over my swim bottoms. I can discreetly slip off my bottoms and into dry panties while out and about. The skirt can be dressed up for dinner out but is cool and comfortable for daytime sightseeing.
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
That is a really good idea - I might make and pack a lightweight skirt (or dress) next time I go away!

Thanks for your report on your trip and how the wardrobe worked out. I agree about knit tops being too hot in summer. This year I made six lengthened Ashton tops in lightweight wovens (everything from seersucker to quilting cotton to lawn) and they are dreamy cool. They hang so they don't touch the lower half of my back or under the bust, so I feel every breeze.
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
Oh the Ashton top is a brilliant idea for summer! I have a couple of them, but I wear them in the winter with a cardigan or jacket. I need to make more for next summer!!

Really enjoyed hearing about your trip to Greece Izzy. I'm not surprised about Santorini. Kind of tempting to visit because the pictures are so beautiful but it's a place I decided in our earlier planning to skip. Fun to hear about which fabrics worked well for you and glad you wore those gorgeous pants with your beautiful purple top. xx Karen
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
It really is tempting because what I was hearing was all positive and of course, you see all the beautiful pictures. And don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I went, but it’s not a place I need to go back to. The next time I visit a country where the weather is really hot, I’m making myself nothing but rayon wide-leg pants 😂 xx

Hi Izzy. I’m glad Marianne and you had a fun vacation together. I feel the same way about certain way about certain fabrics and heat. I’m happy to hear that you took the time to”crazy” pants and that the double gauze top was a success. I look forward to seeing you both soon. ❤😊

I was happy to hear that you had a wonderful vacation and that your capsule wardrobe worked out so well. Thanks for sharing all of it. I moved to Tennessee about five years ago and have recently found double gauze. It can be chilly here in the early morning but by the afternoon it is really hot. Double gauze keeps me comfortable in both temperatures. I'm looking forward to seeing your Frocktail makes.
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
That’s the amazing thing about double-gauze isn’t it? It keeps you cool and warm! I should get over my dislike of sewing with it and make myself all the pyjamas with double-gauze! 😂

Thank you Carol! I’m now toying with the idea of making myself a capsule wardrobe for office-wear. It’s so much fun to see all the pieces together and then mix and match everything. Frocktails is starting to stress me out to be honest. I know what I’m making for Marianne and for myself, but I now also want to make a light layer in case it’s a little bit cool at night and I would love to make us a bag to match our outfits. Too many ideas and not enough time! 😂

Great to hear your wardrobe worked out so well for you. Funny how we have these preconceived notions about how things will be and then find just the opposite may be true. But it sounds like all in all you enjoyed your trip! I've yet to experience sewing with double gauze. Sounds like it may be a challenge lol. 😂
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
I think having very high expectations about the trip was the problem 😂 Overall, it was a really good vacation. Double-gauze is only a challenge for me because it’s all “wrinkly” so you need to make sure you don’t press it flat when you sew with it (or else you’ll need to press it very flat every time you wash it). It just makes being super accurate a little challenging. But something like the Remy or PJs are perfect in double-gauze.

I'm late to commenting on this video but really enjoyed it - both hearing about the trip as well as how your clothing choices worked out - it can be hard to enjoy a place when there are a lot of other people (they don't show all those folks in the travel ads!) but I can see that overall it was a great time and your travel wardrobe worked so well! I was surprised to hear that it was often humid because my impression of Greece was that it was hot and dry - you really do learn something new every day, and thanks for taking us along 😃!
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
I thought the same thing about Greece - that it would be hot but dry! But NO - because it’s surrounded by water, it’s incredibly humid. I mean, you step outside and you start sweating!!
@julieinnis2219Ай бұрын
Hi Izzy, I am so glad you had a lovely time with your daughter in Greece. I am also glad that your capsule wardrobe worked so well. I hear what you are saying about knit tops in the heat. I live in Australia and knit tops are way too hot for our summer. A cotton linen blend is one of my favourite fabrics for making into blouses. Thank you for your comment about chambray as I am considering making up a dress in that fabric for this summer. I also find that viscose is a lovely fabric to wear in our heat. Gosh 32 degrees Celsius plus humidity does not sound pleasant - so you did well to be out and about on your guided tours. Happy sewing and good luck with your frocktail dresses. 🌸
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
Thank you so much! Yes - 32 Celcius plus humidity is ridiculous 😂 I’m really looking forward to Fall weather now!!

Hi Izzy. It's wonderful you get to enjoy time with your daughter. I remember you saying you weren't a fan of double gauze so it's nice you've now discovered the benefits of it, and the embroidered gauze looks lovely. After your last vlog I was interested in looking at the Remy Raglan pattern with long sleeves, and saw there's an option to add some cross stitch embellishment. I need a hand sewing project to take to a social sewing day, and I'm always drawn to something a bit boho and have some soft ombre pink/peach linen, so I was sold.
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
I’m going to make the long gathered sleeves on my Remy with my precious fabric and I’m super excited about it. My fabric is most likely going to be a busy one so embellishments might not work but I think it’s a great idea!!

Lovely to see you back again and wow, look how sun lightened your hair is... so pretty ❤ Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your holiday wardrobe, you did an awesome job. Roll on next year's holiday so we can see what you come up with. I tell my husband all the time about wearing a linen shirt instead of a T shirt when it's hot and he never listens 😂 Greece is HOT and the thing is, there is not the quality of air conditioning that you have in the US and Canada, I bet you discovered that! I haven't been to Rome, only Venice but I hear it is very much like Santorini, VERY over commercialised and packed with tourists. Just a warning in case that is on your list! Now... get cracking on the Frocktails outfits 😂 ❤❤xx
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
I know - I can’t believe how light my hair got!! I sent my daughter-in-law a text begging her to fit me in and colour my hair ASAP 😂 I really want to go to Rome, but only for a few days. My son is in Italy now and he loved Rome (but then again, he’s a lot younger than me 😂) My frocktails outfits are number 1 on the list when I get back to the city on Sunday!! Xx 💞

it's so interesting how everyone is different. i'm the opposite of you--i prefer to wear knit tops in the summer b/c i find woven blouses overly hot, like the billowy-ness traps air against my body and i feel stifled.
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
Oh I can totally see how woven tops would do that. When I’m hot, I can’t stand anything touching me 😂
@KakkydiditАй бұрын
I haven't seen anything about your own Frocktails garb, Izzy. I'm hoping you'll do a nice jumpsuit, maybe with some kind of coordinating jacket you could even wear out in Montreal on a chilly evening. I heard you talk about a dress for Marianne (I think) but maybe I felt sorry for myself because I couldn't go and started ignoring Frocktails content! To Marianne: I thought of you and the work you do when I was subpoenaed to testify in a Pacific Nortwest criminal trial, made possible only because of DNA analysis of evidence held for more than 30 years. I am not personally connected to the families in this case, so I wish I could just hear about the physical evidence! The seams I've learned to worry about and try to remember to preempt by reinforcing: Lower rear of woven set in sleeves, and rear seam of woven trousers, usually where the crotch curve starts. My fitting is probably not good enough to overcome my sitting crosslegged on the floor. - Kelly I am so glad you had a good vacation! What precious fabric are you sewing up? I can't wait.
@dizzyquiltsandsewsАй бұрын
I am making a jumpsuit for myself for Frocktails 😂 I’m trying to decide what to make as a layer (cardigan or jacket or just a short bolero). I am making a dress for Marianne and I can’t wait to share it because it’s going to be stunning on her! I too reinforce the seams in the crotch but I’m always nervous! I’m not sure which precious fabric I’ll be sewing yet - I’m waiting for the results of the poll I put up on my Community Tab on YT. 😊
