Just thought I’d share a little piece of wisdom I picked up along the way, it’s probably that you just use the word “bind” loosely but there are many candle makers who do think that the fragrance and wax molecules “bind” together. In reality they don’t, when wax is heated it obviously goes from solid to liquid, creating space between the wax molecules and allowing them move around more freely. When we add fragrance oil we are actually creating a “homogenous mixture” which basically means that the wax molecules and fragrance molecules are evenly distributed around the mixture. Imagine adding salt to water, if you just pour salt in it sinks to the bottom, but when you mix it, the salt dissolves and you can no longer see it in the water, but when you taste it, it’s salty. This is because you’ve created a homogenous mixture where the particles of water and salt are evenly distributed throughout the mixture (just google a diagram of a homogenous mixture as I’ve butchered the explanation) But yeah, wax and fragrance doesn’t “bind” it just mixes evenly throughout, depending on the wax type, the hotter the wax is the easier it is blend the fragrance oil into a homogenous mixture. Hope that helps to anyone who sees this, I feel like it’s easier to understand how the candles work once you know this little tidbit of information. Great video as always Erica, glad you are all doing well, hope to continue to see you succeed!

Woohoo 🎉 Congrats on your motherhood. I watch all of your videos because I am starting a candle business called, The Maine Candle Factory 😊 I just poured 20 candles but while they cure I'm not sure they will turn out okay. My intention was to finish off my beeswax but I didn't have enough so I melted 6 pounds, 2lb beeswax, 2lbs of 444 soy and 2lbs of coconut oil. Not sure how they will turn out but I need to narrow down my 12 vessels and test out my 12 fragrances. Thank you for so much information ✌️

@@MemoryBoxCandleCo Turns out they burn way too hot 😂I did two - 4 hour burns and the 6oz tin has no wax left. I am going to do a different soy/beeswax blend next and am narrowing down my large vessels that I will use. Currently I have 12 types/sizes with two more on the way (yikes!). Would you please let me know if you don't mind, how I can take photos and overlay different labels in the photos? I am not a Photoshop expert and when I tried, it pretty much looked like I took a stock photo and tried to past my label photo into it haha. Thank you for any advice

Hey Erica! First off, happy to see you back in the lab 😂😂 Quick question, when I make something, I use a silicone cup for my FO also. However, when I put it in my wax, it is never the amount I originally weighed it as. How do you combat this issue?
@MemoryBoxCandleCo5 ай бұрын
This could mean a small amount is leftover as residue in the bottom of the silicone cup. Is it a super small amount? Less than 1 gram? I will sometimes overpour .5 of a gram to account for the small amount that will inevitably "stick" to the bottom of the cup

Your website is very nice. How did you come up with your vision? Everything seems very well thought out.
@MemoryBoxCandleCo5 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! When I started the company I knew I wanted to really emphasize the nostaglia component to candles, so most of my candles have a story behind them. Now I have been trying to slowly transition to focusing on the customer creating their own future nostalgia through our scents. I realize now that I have been very "me centered" and I want to start focusing on the customer and their memories/stories. I spent quite a while thinking of different themes/niches/ideas for my candle brand. I had an open notes section on my phone and added ideas to it that came to mind until I finally chose the one that I felt connected to the most!

Do you worry about your wax cooling down too quick after pouring in fo?
@MemoryBoxCandleCo6 ай бұрын
Well we heat the wax pretty hot and depending on how much wax I will be measuring in the pitcher I’ll hit it with a heat gun real quick. I find that heating the wax to 200 allows for the FO to bind at that 185-190ish mark :)

Hi Ericka! I missed you my 😊virtual friend! 1* I am making candles but I want to mix it with bees wax since I make beeswax wraps as well but I don’t know what percentage of wax To add To the soy 10 wax but I don’t know how many grams of bees wax and what temperature! 2 * I want to mix 2 fragrance oils but if I add 1098g of fragrance should I divide that amount of grams by 2 ? So 1098 dived by 2=549 g of each fragrance? 😅me using my math that I never was good at it! My jars are the same size jar that you are using in this video! Help me pleaseeee❤ we miss you glad you are back but we know being a mommy is the most important job right now! Hugs for you my virtual good friend!❤
@MemoryBoxCandleCo6 ай бұрын
Hi! Oh goodness, are you just using 1098g of FO as an example? Or are you making a HUUUGE batch of candles at once? In terms of blending fragrances, if you choose to do a 50/50 blend then yes you would just do half of each fragrance! But you can do whatever kind of blend you want! A lot of blending, whether it’s wax or FO comes down to personal preference and testing!
@dianamanuel7285 ай бұрын
