FRAGRANCE PERCENTAGE CHART:
We've received HUNDREDS of emails requesting our Fragrance Percentage Chart that was created here at BrewMill Candle Company and has been a GREAT tool to help our candle making efforts easier. I've tried responding to each and every email but I can't keep up. I had to add it to our store so you can get one yourself.
For a copy of yours, please visit our website at www.brewmillcandlecompany.com and search FRAGRANCE PERCENTAGE CHART in the Shop. This will be a simple downloadable product and all we ask is you give a small donation that we will put towards our Animal Shelter Fund. Each quarter we give a percentage of our proceeds to local animal shelters to help an animal in need. Your donation will greatly help that cause. Thank you for your interest.

Sometimes my cleanup at the end of the day is draining. I’m tired by then and it would be so easy to just leave it until the morning. But by then everything is hardened and triple the effort, so I do this. And it is a bit time consuming but it’s nice to start each day with a clean work area and clean tools. I get a lot of questions on my cleanup so I went into more detail on this video on that. Thank you for watching.

Aw Thank you so much for this comment. This is exactly why I do this 🥰 So with THIS blend I heat to 180 on my Digiboil, but I set it to 176, I don’t know why it’s off but 176 gives me 180 from the tap. And I do not always empty it each day. Some days are small batch pour days and so I just turn it off when I’m finished. Re-heat next day, as long as I don’t leave it on and burn it, which I can’t do on the Digiboil, but you sure can in a double boiler, it’s always fine. I never put any additives in, no FO, no coloring, no Vybar, no Coconut Oil. Just wax. In fact I don’t even mix my blends in one Digiboil. I have four Digiboils with their own designated wax. All my blending occurs after the pour. Hope that helps with that question. Now onto FO and temps. With THIS blend I heat to 180, add FO at 145-150 and pour at around 130. This works great for me. I’ve done all other ways and this is our method for all pours with the soy paraffin blend. I was struggling with sinkholes with IGI6006, by mixing it with C3 and cooling before I pour, I get a great candle with smooth tops. Now with my C3, I don’t even use a thermometer anymore. Heat to 170, Digiboil set to 165, and I just pour, add FO, stir full two minutes and pour. No waiting, no temp checks. And it’s perfect every time.

Do you mind if I ask the percent blend you use. I've tried C-3 and IGI 6006 and both have things I do and dont like but am very interested in the blend you are using. @brewmillcandlecompany
@brewmillcandlecompany 2 жыл бұрын
Oh I don’t mind at all. I blend 50/50, which results in approximately 65/35 blend. IGI6006 is 70% Paraffin/30% soy C3 is 100% Soybean wax Equal volumes of C3 and IGI would reduce Parafin by 50%. Therefore Parafin in the total mixture is 70% x 50% = 35% Parafin and 65% Soy. It’s a nice blend.

Great video. You’re the first maker I’ve seen pour your fragrance at that low temp. I’m curious how you found that works rather then pouring the fragrance in at 180’ish?
@brewmillcandlecompany
@brewmillcandlecompany 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeff 😊 I tested 10 degrees at a time starting at 180 as suggested, I set my Digiboil to 176, this gets it to around 180, and breaks those molecules down. I found my candles get strongest HT and CT if I add the FO around 145-150 (I see I didn’t show that in the video, I only talk about pour temp). I POUR around 128-132. Once I add my FO, it quickly clouds over and reduces the temp to my desired pour temp. The reason for the test was the thought the higher temp (180) was burning off my FO, and after much searching I found the Alex Method (this is for soy but I thought I’d try it with my soy/paraffin blend) and this produces really strong candles for me. Heat to 180 ~ add FO between 145-150 ~ STIR A FULL TWO MINUTES to really bind that FO to melted wax molecules ~ pour between 128-132. This wax is a blend of 6006 and C3, I have four Digiboils. Two are C3 only, one is 6006 only, this third one is the blend. It’s a small amount of paraffin which produces a harder wax plus a stronger scent than straight C3, and a creamier finish than just 6006.

Newbbie here :) Everything i read says to add fragrance oils at or around 180-185 degrees. Have you found any real difference between adding in the 180 range vs 130, or does it have little to no affect on scent throw?

I’m not the right person to ask that question. I launched with 32 different fragrances. I have over 300 at any given time lol. I have somewhat of a fragrance addiction 🙈

This is really helpful, thanks! What do you think about the claims that paraffin is harmful? Also, do you use glasses or a respirator while you work? And do they need to cure at room temperature? Because I have a storage room attached to the house that is unheated and gets cold - would this not be a good place for curing and storage? Thanks again.

Hi Joe. Paraffin doesn’t bother me. Nor does it bother 96% of my customers. In fact as a maker it’s simply the best wax IMO, I guess it’s why it’s been in candles since 1867. There’s plenty if reasons to hate it. There’s plenty of reasons to hate Soy wax. Also plenty of reasons to hate all waxes, including beeswax. I guess it depends on which manufacturer throws more money into campaigns to convince us the other is bad. All natural vs sustainable vs cruelty free vs toxicity vs humanity and labour laws…it’s all out there. My opinion is all wax is manufactured. And no candle is 100% safe. I don’t get caught up in controversy. I use all the best ingredients I can source with the information I’ve absorbed. I read everything. MSDS sheets, peer reviewed journals, federal regulations, I study manufacturing processes, then I make the best decision I can for my business and my customers. I’m an open book. At the end of the day I don’t try to upsell one wax over the other. I offer candles made by all of them. I provide as much information that I have to my customers and ultimately they decide. As for the cold room you have, I don’t think you should cure in it, but once they’ve cured I don’t see why you couldn’t store them there. I cure all my candies in a warm curing room. I keep it above 73.

@@brewmillcandlecompany Thanks for all that useful information, you've convinced me on the paraffin question. One more question, how warm does the manufacturing room have to be? Maybe I could put an oil heater near the candles while I work in the cold room. I just looked at your work room: impressive!

@@Joe-os3vp I’m thinking about your space and I love creative ideas to utilize the best space available. We downsized into this really small house after it underwent an extensive top to bottom renovation that we did ourselves. But it’s SMALL. So we’ve had to be creative as well. So I’m with you…let’s dive into it. So it’s not heated but is it insulated? Are you in a really cold environment? I manufacture AND cure between 70-73 degrees. How can you achieve that on your space? A heater is a good idea, electric would be pricey, fuel concerns me for safety, but that’s just me, insulation would most definitely be key. If you could get that room to stay warm OR build a large enough “box” to place your curing candles in for 3-5 days at minimum then you’d be off to a good start. I’d be curious where you land. Please come back and share 😊

@@brewmillcandlecompany Apologies if this is too detailed: I'm in England so the temperature varies a lot, but it gets icy cold in winter. The room is a later attachment with uninsulated, two brick thick walls (the roof has a thin layer of insulatuon) that I just used for storage and has a ' two floor high' ceiling, so is difficult to warm up. Three exterior walls. Moist air; problems with paint running and a bit of mould. I recently painted the walls and had them re-cemented. The roof is sealed. I just need to seal the door. Insulating the walls would be rather expensive but I could look into it. The plan was to just have oil heaters in there while I worked. I will need to take a thermometer in and see if I can maintain the right temperature for working in. If not I will have to think about wall insulation. It has a nice thick door at least. It's just starting to warm up now so I should make insulation a priority project. Storing the candles in the main house while they cure is not a problem, I have lots of room. If they got too many though I would need to put some in the cold room. I like your idea of a storage box. I really appreciate your help! I am taking notes for my file. Your own work room will be what I keep referring to while making my own.

@@brewmillcandlecompany Hello again, I was inspired to look into it and it wouldn't be that expensive to section off part of the room for a work space, put in a lower ceiling, and insulte. Then have an oil heater. Should be cosy after that. Does your room temperature fluctuate much (due to the melters)? Should I be aiming for a strict fixed degree of temperature or does a bit of variation not matter? And also, would I need to keep the outside door open a bit for ventilation? I find fans too noisy. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi there. I like your Energy on how you do your candle business. I have a few questions to ask. First, I just started making candles myself in my kitchen on my stove top to be exact. I can only make two candles each time and it takes time. Those aluminum pitchers you have there, can you tell me where you got them.? The wick holder you put over the jars, where you got those and how much they cost.? Where you design your labels also?
