This performance is fantastic…On Mayte’s birthday , Nov 12th…but She was still in the throws of deep desperation and depression over the loss of their son…This was the darkest times for Him and Mayte 😔I can’t even imagine…the darkness and sadness in his eyes is undeniable

Another dope reaction. Shared w peeps. So he became prince again in 1999. 1996 emancipation album was his album not under warner bros. Yes joy in repetition was a cut on this show, a graffiti bridge song, but actually it dates back to the revolution era 85-86 around the era of dream factory, crystal ball, Camille albums. If u listen to the horns on "get your groove on" in the middle of the song, they're lined up, facing each other, walk across the stage, the horns and the line dance is a dance called "the 6" Which comes from prince s performance "it's gonna be a beautiful night" it's a segment called "land of 1000 dances" where he s calling out different dances, based on the dance, that determines what notes they play "people people, got a brand new dance" new dance, "people people gotta a brand new dance" new dance. U also see that on the "for those of you on valluim" rehearsal from 1987. That should be on you tube. Might've been in the sign of the times movie to. Vallium show is your best video to see if that. When u talk about transitions, sometimes he spent 30 min on just transitions, just doing them over and over to get perfection

Wow! Malakia, I haven’t seen this one before. If I had to pick a favorite Prince song, it would be Joy in Repetition (with If I Was Your Girlfriend being a close second). What a great version! And, yes, it’s from Graffiti Bridge. Btw, I thought of another performance that you would really love. It’s a live performance of Ripopgodazippa. I think it’s from Glam Slam in Miami. It is sooo sexy!!!

Emancipation was the first full album released independently that was recorded in complete freedom. It was still while he was going by O{+>, which was part of how he gained his freedom from Warner Bros. He didn't go back to going by Prince until his contract expired in 2000. Kirk Johnson on drums.

@@malakiasplayhouse I only noticed because he still dances like that....and his kiddos now do too. 😂 I'm going to send this to him to confirm. Lol. He hosts a podcast called "Purple Highs" with his best friend, Dustin, who was one of Prince's personal DJs for about 25 years and performed on the One Nite Alone tour with them. They tricked me into being interviewed for one of the episodes. But they dig into the Paisley experience because it was (and still is) unlike any other artists' relationship with their "fans." Really cool interviews from people that have been to upwards of 500 shows at Paisley. I was only 22 when Prince passed, so I only got to 38 shows. So it's really cool to listen to some stories from back before I was old enough to go out there. I think you'd really enjoy it as well.

Okay...came back to add some additional info....I checked with my friend Meko who was there that night. She said "if I remember correctly" (lol) this performance was from the "industry" portion of the release party and the real party started after all those people left. 🤣 Sounds about right. Some of my all time favorite Prince performances were when there were about 10-40 of us there.

@@smh93hmmm I would strongly suggest he avoids NPS ...this is not by any stretch of the imagination a good album ...apart from Come on and the one it's arguably his worst

Prince and Mayte's son died October 23, 1996 and this was recorded November 12, 1996; less than a month later.

I love this performance. But how he was able to do it baffles me considering he had just lost baby Amiir. But the album had to be advertised. May they both R.I.P. By the way welcome back. You were missed 💜💜. By the way that was Kirk Johnson playing drums.

I was thinking the same thing as I watched this performance. This album was dedicated to Mayte and supposed to be the happiest time in his life, but it turned into probably the hardest of his life. Mayte missing on stage just hit it home… I love all things P and miss his presence here on earth. 💜
