Yeah, it's really not that hard. More people would do it if they saw how easy it is, just connecting modules to the motherboard. It's not like you're soldering circuit boards or anything. Before Linus there were hundreds of DIY websites. After your first build, later on upgrades are easy and so much cheaper.
@dungeonmaster98003 жыл бұрын
The problem with Corsair's method for vertical GPUs is that they place them right up against the edge of the case. This is fine if you're going to water-cool your GPU, but if you're planning on just using the stock cooling solution, your air flow is going to be choked off by the side panel.

I love how the viewers, the camera and the crew are just the "rubber ducky" for Linus. He explains something to us and thus has to put it into words and then figures stuff out. Usually programmers have a rubber ducky. Before they ask their colleague or a boss about an issue, they explain it to this duck, either loud or in their mind, but building complete sentences, imagining the other side not knowing too much about the problem yet. Many then figure it out, without talking to anybody afterwards :D You can see it happen at 25:00 :)

Curious as to how you think only water (distilled I assume) is the best thing for cooling. Just about every vehicle on the road uses a coolant system extremely similar to computer setups, with the exception of a thermostat to allow more fluid to flow once it reaches a certain temperature. The additives you put into the radiator raise the boiling temperature, lower the freezing temperature and help prevent corrosion on the metallic parts it passes through, all very good things to have in a cooling system. I can only guess the additives for PC's are extremely similar and should be beneficial.

That power supply is pretty sweet and I might get one for myself, but to your point - you can have a door-less basement. I had a friend in school who lived in a house built in the 1700s and it had a basement that could only be accessed through the floorboards and a second basement that could be accessed by climbing through the inside of the wall and sliding down. The house used to be the general store, so I suspect the basements were for storing dry goods and possibly bootlegging (possibly rum-running since the goods would be coming in from port).

PSU wires are #16 AWG cables witch is rated at about 15-18 AMPs, The RTX 3080Ti 12GB GPU uses about 505W of power that means it may peak at 12-13 AMPS divided in 6 of the 8 pins so yea yea it is perfectly safe to split it
@zg1k682 жыл бұрын
The gpu plug thing. The PSU connector port has a substantially lower under load temperature than the GPU ports. As you heat up a conductor, the resistance increases, which then causes the conductor to heat up more, causing a runaway thermal condition when you pass a certain threshold. There are also typically sensors in the PSU that will throttle or shut off power to a port that is overheating on the PSU, but cannot monitor the port on the GPU, so they designed it in a way that the port on the PSU should be the first to overheat if a critical situation is eminent. That was the thought process behind the design, but whether or not it's a functional feature of the PSU depends on the manufacturer.

I believe the cables have a 150w max for each port. Using a single cable for two ports will probably not result in 300w of power going to the card. It should be easy enough to tell by running some benchmarks and seeing if you get power cap throttling.

installing a vertical GPU kit in a case that supports vertical GPU already... although having it pushed back more won't choke it as much, as the side panel will definitely be close enough to the fans to restrict airflow if used in the "first-party" mount. I would be on board, but you could just use the stock mount and not have to cut. Just don't use the second mounting screw. But you could also probably get the cables plugged in without cutting anything. Just feed it between the slats.

Cold in the bottom fans hot out the top. That's the correct way, because even if say a fan of two goes out, you still have thermal dynamics on your side. If you do it the other way and a fan goes out, you could potentially end up in a situation where the fans are trapping heat in the case.

My ocd had problems with the front fans. Why not 1 120, and 2 140's. Iam doing that in my meshyfy tomorrow. They come with just 2 140, but you can squeeze 1 more 120 at the bottom 🤩

the power flow is determined bye the socket or mother board... the question should be what's the max wattage on the cable your using???? that will determine the max out flow to the double 8 pin cable..... I see much thicker wining my self

@@FeyFox Hell, I jumped to an Asus lappy from shitty Lenovo lappy builds with HDD failing less than a year and chassis breaking by 2 years. Guess, I can't service my lappy without breaking my warranty to upgrade my storage and a single slot of RAM with them soldering the other one. At least it wasn't an absolute BS of a hardware compared to 1 RAM slot of Lenovo.

Friend: What do you do for a livin- Linus: I spend money to make money to build something with money on KZbin.

Near the end: Use USB stick to install, with just enough storage for the install package. It's then forced to a) Pick the SSD instead as an install target b) Forego the usage of the install stick as a place to put anything. Also, you may wanna use the lowest Sata port for an install drive, or leave anything else out when using an nVME SSD.

Also by default using a raid for SSD is a nice way to both speed up for less, but also make better use of the mainboard resources (raid chip). The only exception to this is when the smaller SSD's are slower together than one faster one. That said, I use raid setups by default, since in most cases having two smaller ones is cheaper, while outspeeding the bigger and more expensive faster ones. It's like top speed for like 2TB or more drives, but they cost a bundle. Instead having two 250GB ones are just as fast or faster, while costing less total. If you wanna play another game, just download while grabbing coffee, mine take about 15 minutes, which is barely enough to have a nice 'throne' sitting. I actually use 2x 80 GB's for gaming, which cost me less than $50

I'm gunna guess and say the PCIE wiring from the PSU is more robust than the PCB traces and so they use multiple plugs to spread the load over several PCB traces on the card.

if the power supply is strong enough to run two 8 pin pci-e in parallel i dont see why thats a problem as long as the amperage is there for it and the voltage is correct

On my old GTX980 I used to get MAJOR coil-whine when I used the daisychain connection, but if I used two separate connections it was fine. Something about being on different power rails in the PSU I think.

I’m still on path to build another PC. I’m just making sure I have a motherboard that can support the graphics cards of the future when prices finally come back down to earth. Right now I go with a lower end yet decent card that’s reasonable and affordable in today’s market. All other parts I still go for the best high end but also reasonably affordable.
