At least a good circular saw!

Something you can do, if you don't manage to get a table saw, is clamp a long and hopefully straight board down the length of the board you need to cut. Then butt the side of the jig saw/circular saw against that board as a guide. It still won't be perfect but it will be faster and better than freehand.

This is how beautiful things exist. Thank you for the reinvigoration.

Hi Rosie. This channel (well... all channels really) seem a dream for the introverted. You get to share... but at a distance, and you get to control the whole interaction. There can be dangers to this approach, which I believe you are becoming more and more aware of as time goes by. Self awareness and insightful introspection takes one only so far along the path of life. You are gaining hard-won confidence daily... and I suspect long held personal values are evolving, and changing, due this life you are literally building for yourself. You are "proving" yourself. I probably should stop here... but there is something about your channel that is appealing to me - even though it is a one-way street. I find it quite interesting to feel emotionally attached to you (there's some strange responsibility there for you too as the content creator). No other channel in my feed does this... and I think it is because I too have so wanted to leave the outside world and just build my own safe place. It is fascinating to watch you grow... thank you for being secure enough to allow me (us) to watch it happen.

I love your work. I just have to mention that the birch tree lying on the ground has such dense bark that if you don't do anything with it you risk the whole tree rotting. You should either remove the bark or at least make some cuts in it, possibly saw it in the length of firewood so that it can dry from the edges if you are going to use it for that purpose when you have had the chimney repaired. Birch is the best wood for fires in the north, but it is also considered one of the better types of wood for making furniture and objects. Maybe you should ask your neighbor who put down the tree for you - he probably knows better about the conditions where you live than where I get my knowledge from in Norway.

I find it refreshing, Rosie, to see your flubs along the way of lovingly crafting something. So many DIY videos on youtube are curated to make viewers think creating something is easy when it's not. For me, one project is usually fraught with endless trips to the hardware shop to get things I forgot or didn't know I needed. A project rarely comes together smoothly or in one go. Back and forth to the store I go, quickly losing momentum and motivation. I have a fear of any project that requires me to measure and cut anything because I know I will do it wrong at least twice. Thank you for having the confidence and humility to show realistic DIY

Rosie your drive and determination is to be admired and followed by so many of us . I would have bought the cabin tooas you did as its beautifully situated and has a nice energy about it, but I would have just kept coming back for only 6 months of the year to do DIY stuff to bring the place up to scratch with the fundamentals ( heating, water, insulation, greenhouse etc). The rest of the time I would have worked in London or wherever the money was to raise funds for the Spring/Summer period. Plus such an approach would have given my body and mind a break from the stress of trying to carry on with DIY in Winter with minimal heating, and its an opportunity to see family and friends and research in warmth. After I had managed to get the place up to heating standard i.e fireplace , wooden stove etc then I would have dived in for a longer period over Winter. I would have also purchased a Moped as they require minimal road qualification to use in just about all countries and would have given me a backup on the days I was unwell but still needed to trek into town for supplies - especially if you become injured this could be a life saver. The bike is great keeps you fit and robust but depends on you remain fit and robust to use it. Your pioneer approach amazes me but does make me worry like an old Aunt for your well being if something should go amiss as you are very isolated even from your nearest neighbour and northern winters can be very unforgiving for those who are inexperienced to its harshness. Plus I would recommend in relation to your vegetable garden/ greenhouse that you look into ELECTROCULTURE -GARDENING -- with a little bit of copper wire you can plug into the natural energy field of the Earth by using the copper wire wrapped around a pole near your vegetables and staked into the ground. It creates an electromagnetic field around your vegetables /plants and helps them to grow faster and more plentiful. It will be a great plus for you and hopefully reduce your food bill over time. Best wishes

What a beautiful job. Quick tip: When you're hitting the edge of the tongue and grove with your hammer, use a scrap bit of wood between. You can then hit it quite hard without damaging the edge of the T&G then. You are doing really well. Also be careful sanding with one hand on the sander. You may end up with mountains and valleys in your timber as the front and rear of the sander digs in. Two hand produce a more even sand.

The cladding looks great! I always love a library. My recommendation before deciding the height of the bookshelves would be to actually hold up the different sizes of books you have and make sure they would actually fit between these shelves. I've certainly had that problem in the past that I forgot to include the actual thickness of the boards in my calculations and then had to change the distance between them because the books wouldn't fit otherwise. Sweden in the summer is gorgeous - I'm glad you had a chance to go hiking with your parents while they were visiting!

I LOVE your videos. As a young girl, I grew up in the wilderness of Canada, and lived in simple shacks and a log cabin that my father constructed…. Still there from over 60 years ago. So I have some of those same ‘can-do’ blood cells in my body as well 🥹. I have to say I felt some of your frustration with measuring, cutting, remeasuring and recutting….. but some exhilaration when it starts to come together. Hang in there!! You’re doing great! It’s not perfect but your little house will be so much better for having you put so much of yourself into it.
