Years ago my husband and my kids and I went through some EXTREMELY hard times. We were facing homelessness and we had 2 dogs. Our dogs were LITERALLY our babies we loved them so so so so much but not knowing what we were going to do or where we were going to go we knew we had to find good homes for our dogs and that was the hardest most heartbreaking thing I had to ever do! I didn’t want to give up my babies but I had no other choice in the matter. Luckily God sent people into our lives that were about as perfect as could be to love our babies! For our Bischon we found a family that had wanted one so bad but couldn’t afford to buy one from a breeder and boy did they spoil her from the moment they met her and our Border Collie who we had the longest was the hardest one because we had him for so long and we had to bring him to the shelter because we couldn’t find anyone to take him. So my husband pulled up to the shelter and was sitting in the parking lot holding Rocky and so desperately NOT wanting to bring him in there when a woman who walked out of the shelter came up to him to see if he was ok and he told her the story of why he was there and let me tell you, God DEFINITELY put that woman there that day! Here she came to the shelter every so often to see if they had any Border Collies she could adopt because she had a big farm and she rescued Border Collies! What an amazing miracle! So she took Rocky to her amazing farm! She had sent me updates for quite awhile and Rocky was so happy there! So as Lee said sometimes people fall on hard times and things happen that are out of our control. So also as Lee said you shouldn’t judge until you walk a mile in someone else’s shoes. I am so grateful for people like the ones who took our babies and Lee. They make the world a much better place ❤

Didn’t your parents ever teach you that if you don’t have anything nice to say why say anything at all? Usually I just let comments like these go BUT yours just needed to be answered! I guess I am just sick and tired of seeing complete strangers saying things so rudely for absolutely no personal gain at all! I also guess that it is because I don’t do those things to people unless I can see that what they did or said was something pretty bad. Oh well hope you got whatever it was you needed to get out of your system. Have a lovely day.

Thank you, Lee. I live in Toronto, Canada. We're having a big problem now with people dumping the pets they got to keep them company while they worked at home during the pandemic. They're now dumping these poor animals in local woods and ravine parkland in and around the city. Some of them are found and rescued by Toronto Animal Services, but we can be sure some of them are not. I'm sure this kind of thing is happening all over. This was predicted when the sales from breeders and adoptions from Toronto Humane Society and other local animal shelters were skyrocketing and people were complaining that those shelters were being too stringent in their adoption policies. This didn't have to happen, if people weren't so short-sighted and selfish. So yes, I'm being judgmental of them, because they should know better. You don't dump your family in the woods with coyotes and foxes, and leave them to suffer. Sorry, Lee, it just hurts to see this. I had my cat that I found as an abandoned 8-week old kitten near the local ravine. If I hadn't taken her home with me, she would have been a fox's snack. She was with me for 18 years, and I had to put her to sleep in September 2020, as she was dying. I had to hand her over to the vet at the door, couldn't be with her, because of covid. It broke my heart that I couldn't hold her as she went to sleep. I still miss her, and I thought I would maybe get another cat, adopt a senior cat, but I know now I can't afford it anymore. I'm grateful to you and all the other people out there providing love and shelter to all the wonderful doggies and cats - and other critters. Thank you!

It's true, I recently adopted a second dog from the Toronto Humane Society and it was utterly heartbreaking to see all the "purebred" dogs that were there. They were all between the ages of two and three. Gorgeous dogs that were bred out of greed and selfishness and are now paying the price for human callousness. Both of my dogs are rescues and I am so grateful for them. They are both gorgeous and whenever some snotty person with their designer dog asks me what breed they are I always say the best kind. Sometimes when I see dog owners that clearly think of their dog as an accessory I explain that owners like me are the ones that have to correct all the horrible mistakes they make on such impulsive buys. My first dog was two years old when I got her and in fairness she didn't have any trust issues but she was in no way house trained AT all! She wasn't socialized and could not even walk on a leash. My second dog is about a year and a half from a reserve and Im pretty sure she was used to fight other dogs. She is a beautiful pittie mix with part of her ear missing and because of that she is highly fearful of other dogs. Doesn't matter if they are big or small. This is difficult because fear looks like aggresssion and there is already so much stigmatization she faces already, she is the biggest sucky cuddle bug you would ever meet. Thank you for rescuing your cat and giving her a good life

I personally chose to take care of my very ill Izzy over what I needed. She was a very tough Lhasa Apso, but lost her battle with her illnesses. I've never regretted my decision. They weren't in the right place for them but the former owner did do the right thing and admit they couldn't look after them and give them what they needed, so gave them up to someone he knew would do right by them. I'd be gutted if I had to give my dogs up, but if I became sick or financially couldn't give them what they need I'd make the hard choice. There is no shame in giving dogs up if it's for the right reasons.

At least they look well fed and clean. Heartbreaking to have to give them up. He obviously cared for them, but leaving them outside isn’t what most of us would do.

Bless you Lee. They were so scared to come in the house. I'm glad you explained about that at the end, I would have believed what that guy said saying they were his babies, but you would have seen his situation.

I respect a person who realizes they are unable to continue to take care of there pup, and they surrender them to an organization.. It’s another story if someone callously dumps them in the woods or on the side of the road. I rescued one of my pups, long time ago, from the side of and expressway. So sad, just sitting there waiting 😢

Is the puppy a Bloodhound, too? He is soooo cute ! And the adult one was so out of his/her comfort place inside the house, and the white one, too, it's heartbreaking. But their life will change a lot being with you, feeling your love and cares, and starting to feel comfortable with the pack. They will be happy dogs, and that is wonderful and the most important, free, cared, loved in and outside a comfy home, feeling part of your life, feeling desired and important for you. Hope they feel soon integrated in the pack, having exciting walks full of smells and adventures and then a good sleep at the couch beside you or in a comfy bed. Thank you for taking the 3 with you so they will know how fantastic life can be !!!

Lee I swear you are one of the luckiest guys to get to have all these beautiful animals in your life. These are very beautiful dogs! The Pyrenees looking one was scared to come into the house. You could tell he probably was never in a house ever. I am so happy you have them. So many fur babies to cuddle with. Lucky you! Take care Lee. Again Thank you for taking them in.

I don't think it's all crap...life throws unimaginable curve balls. I felt bad for the man, but he did the right thing.

I feel bad for anyone who felt they could no longer take care of their dogs and have to give them up. Sad for the dogs, who love you even when you are not the greatest human. But I love that you got them - your property is beautiful and what you do is amazing. Your voice when you talk to them - is so sweet! You are the dog whisperer!

I agree with the no judgement aspect. I see this on NextDoor all the time where someone is rehoming their dog and people get so upset. If they don't want the dog for whatever reason or can't care for the dog, the dog is better with someone else. I am just happy these people aren't just dumping their dogs in the boonies somewhere.

You, amongst thousands that do what you do everyday Lee, understand how you just want the pup and let's go! I always fear the words"you know what, I can't do this right now, but I'll call you" as you're loading up the pup/pups. I don't want any dead air between us as we're walking towards better pastures and a caring home. If he really cared, those pups wouldn't be living outside in cold, muddy, and wet conditions. Thank you for what you do, Lee 👍👏🙏

Thank You Lee! It is so hard to do animal rescues! You can tell they are afraid of coming in the house, they probably got punished when they did before. Hats off to all the animal rescue people !

They didn’t have to punished, sometimes dogs are afraid of certain things because it’s unknown and haven’t experienced it. There doesn’t need to be abuse.

dogs love to explore and follow the pack leader, so the reaction of the newbies clearly showed me they hadn't been allowed inside before

I love hounds ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I love all dogs. Dogs will find you when you're lost, save you from drowning, run up a snowy mountain, crawl down a pit and dig through rubble to find you. Yet some people treat them as mere possessions. Dogs deserve the world.

Best of luck to the dogs. I will never understand how people give away or dump they're animals. I would give everything in my house my car whatever I needed to keep my dogs. I owe nothing more important than my dogs.

I have a lot of rescues/adopted both for dogs and cats too and do feed other dogs/cats ..so tiring and exhausting but able to survive and somehow have my happy moments with them as i have no fam of my own at 55 living solo yet my 'fur babies' keep me company so dont feel lonely at all👍❤️🤗🇵🇭 keep saving them Lee as they deserve a good life too.🤩
