Whenever Sacramento SPCA has a dog for me to foster I'm always immediately on board. Only this time was a little different...
Stella was very sick and I wasn't sure I could handle it. I reluctantly headed over to pick up Kai (came back with PomPoms too) and the rest is history. This was one of the most complex, difficult and beautiful times of my life. I learned so much. I want to share the ups and downs of what it's like to devote your life to saving these animals. Enjoy!

I have been using this kzbin.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU as a handy reference book. I read through the book and enjoyed the little glimpses of examples. I love that this author believes in rescue dogs. The tips and training has been invaluable and gave me moments of...."how simple why didn't I think of it" so it's been a great tool. Thank you!

there's some dogs very sensitive = They're hurt by harsh criticism, for hours or until the sun comes up on a new day. the flip side is they're eager to please you, most important. You, the smarter human, need to adjust, dial back being Alpha of the pack 100% of time. Patience, and praise.

Some people like dogs , some people love dogs, but there are some people for whom dogs are as important and wonderful as any human. This guy (and us thank god) is towards dogs as he would be towards any human that he loves. They are such wonderful sentient beings and I can fully understand all of Lee's feelings. The hardest thing I have ever done was putting down my old dog Sushi. I rescued her from a pound in Florida and she was estimated to be about 1 - 3 years old. She was completely matted, had fleas and ticks, and I don't think had ever gotten a haircut. She was my dog for almost 17 years and I spoiled the hell out of her. It took me almost two years before I felt ready to get another dog. Now I have another rescue that I have had for one and a half years. She is a senior and is living the good life.

I had my best friend for 20 years. He was blind, toothless, and senile and I had to make the hardest decision in my life, to let him go. When took his last breath the feeling of release was overwhelming. There comes a time in a persons life when being the most loving is saying good bye. I will never forget my best friend and felt I could never love another fur ball again for the rest of my life but I took in 3 more dogs and now I know why. All fur balls need a chance at a good loving life. Don’t ever stop spreading your love.

The scariest thing about bringing a dog into your life is knowing one day you will have to say goodbye. You know it's going to happen and you try to prepare yourself for it. But, it still breaks your heart. Your ability to keep reaching out and bringing in a dog in need says a lot about your capacity to love.

I understand how you feel…we had to put down our 13 year old “Charlie-dog” and then eleven days later I found “Cookie”, my Buffon McCaw had died suddenly. I had Cookie for 35 years and not having her has left such void. Not seeing my Charlie following me around the house and then not seeing his flashing collar in the yard when he is out doing his business makes me still cry. Then the confusion on my two remaining dogs, sniffing Charlie’s empty bed is just sad. We let them both be with Charlie for a few minutes before we buried him in his favorite spot. 😢 my heart goes out to you for your loss.

Max was my first dog. When he turned 13, he got cancer. Asher, I agonized over that very sad day, just like you. Your video brought back so many memories. It truly was the hardest decision to make, to let Max go. I held him in my arms as he slipped away... I had promised to be with him until the very last moment. They're precious... honestly, a gift. About 6 months after Max, I rescued a dog and she turned out to be the blessing I never knew I would need at the time. Rescuing her saved her life, but the truth is that she actually rescued me during a painfully sad time. Animals are magical.

What amazes me is when you meet dogs, whatever their breed, their age, their story, is that they stare immediately at you, respond to your cuddles, trust you from the very first sight. That's the feeling I get every time I watch your videos rescuing new dogs, anfd that is a sign that dogs feel secure as soon as they are with you. I know how you feel Lee, I’ve had cats and dogs all my life and about 20 years ago I was going through a bad time in my marriage, basically raising 2 kids alone . Well my old cat kept peeing everywhere and I got so cross with her, yelled. Then later, through guilt I think…I didn’t take early enough, for that final sleep. I feel such guilt…even now. Not a day goes by without me thinking of her and how I let her down. I learnt from it and she’s been peaceful all these years. Not a mistake I’ve ever made since. They’ll forgive us, they always forgive, and love.

Stella wants to be remembered with no regrets, just all the joy and love she gave and received. Unconditional love, don't forget, ok? She sure had style, a real lady you taught her to be. Untrained Dogs are not happy. They need purpose too. Stella found her purpose because of you, her Rescuer. What more can anyone, Dog or Human, ask for than at the end of your life to be held and loved, not to be left alone and forgotten as are so many Human's and Dog's fate. We do the best we know until we learn a better best. Really, you spread love and joy to all those welcomed to live a doggy's perfect life with you. Dogs thrive on that love. I watched a Mama Racoon who had 3 babies in the garage. Had to. She wouldn't let my car in. Kits are so noisy and curious. But Mama disiplined them until they understood. Ouch!!! Obeying her kept them in line and safe, literally. Stella was happier with you than any other time in her life. I know everyone appreciates how you share your pack and your experience. You are a good teacher. A little boy told me he learned his puppy needed to have gentle hands hold him so he was very careful with his hands with his puppy. I asked who taught him and he said he watched Lee on Asher Home. It was so sweet how he said Home. Dogs are the greatest gift and the greatest teacher GOD gave us. How I pity the people who treat a dog as property or a disposable thing to be used and than abandoned. To not know the bonding of a Human's Soul and a Dog's Soul, to not know that pure joy and love, is losing something most precious, the best friend you will ever know. You are doing GOD's work. You have found your purpose. No doubt about it.

So many of us know that loss. Almost 6 years on, i still fllod with tears when i remember my little whippet boy i rescued. He went everywhere with me. Euthanizing a pet is an awful choice, but one that responsible pet parents must decide on their own. Each pet, like human beings, are different, as are their needs. I worked with dying (human) patients when I was a hospice volunteer. So, with our first pet, a cat, I had a strong point of view against euthanasia. She lived to be over twenty years with good vet care, and lots of love. When her time came, I made sure I was holding her, and she died in my arms. Afterwards, I reflected on the events that led to that moment, and I knew my limited view about putting a pet to sleep was selfish-because despite my best intentions, and medical visits often to monitor her, and maintain her pain medications, I knew that by the time she died, she was still feeling great physical pain. I vowed to never think in that selfish way again. We have since had many other animals, including dogs who also lived well past their typical age. When one became sick with cancer, and the later one who had a failed kidney, I chose to end their pain in a gentle, caring way. Our entire family of six was present, holding our fur babies, talking to them, and helping them cross over the “rainbow bridge”. Our pets don’t have the choice, like wild animals do, to wander off into the woods to die. It’s up to us to make those hard decisions, if only for what is best for them, and not us. No one chooses to euthanize their beloved pet willingly, and shouldn’t be chastised or made to feel guilty for making these decisions.

The joy of having them, usually, is for many years and the experiences & love that we have with each other, is SO worth the short time of intense grief their passing will eventually give us. Each soul is unique and precious, whether one of our animals or another human. Loving something means being there for the good and bad times for that being.... for life and death, both inevitable with living things. I hope there are animals in Heaven. I want to see all the animals in Heaven, especially all the ones who were taken to circuses. Throphy hunted. Killed for their tusks, oh …. i just want Heaven to have animals. I can’t imagine no animals in Heaven. God can do that. There are many “mansions in My Father’s House”, something like that Jesus said. I pray I get to be outside in the “doghouse”. With all the Saints who love animals and have given their time and “ treasure”, money to SPCA or rescuing and giving them love and who have dedicated their lives like Lee. I want to see them all have a beautiful life forever. I will miss animals if there are no animals in Heaven. I have been too poor to own my own dog. Lived in apartments that do not allow dogs, all my adult life. Those apartments cost a lot of money and plus I could not afford vet bills. Maybe if I win a lottery I will rescue dogs. That would be my Heaven on earth. I’d have a German Shepard and a whole bunch of mutts. I love mutts. So, I want a dog(s) in Heaven. Lee you rock. I know Heaven will be a blast though, so I think there will be animals there😉🐕🫠I want to meet Stella too. And All Lee’s animals. Tony. All the dogs whoever ever existed. Police dogs. Dogs in poor countries that get sold to slaughter houses. Dogs that get tortured and eaten. Dog Meat festivals in China and other countries with dog meat festivals…..oh, by the way, I am sure angry, full of rage about the way cows are brought to slaughter. Piled into trucks with no place to lay down, under unbelievable stresses. Like the Jews sent in trains to the Nazi death camps. Oh, the gift of faith, which I can take absolutely no credit for, it is all grace, is what keeps me from suicide. Mental insanity. But, true confession, I have a lot of anger and questions for God. God can handle my anger. He knows how much pain I suffer with all this anger. I believe that is one of the reasons God blessed me with a computer and got me to find Lee. God/Jesus my Creator, who knows me better than I know myself, knew how much I needed to see how He is working in Lee and his benifactors(sp?) and team and wonderful human friends who adopt his rescues and emotionally support him. It must be so hard not to keep them all because it is always love at first sight and sniff with Lee and animals. Through Lee Jesus and the Holy Spirit began to heal my broken trust and weak faith at times. Watching Lee kissing his dog rescues a billzion times. Telling them he loves them over and over again. Being so happy and excited over them. Playing with them and walking them to waters for swims. I will be eternally grateful 😊 Thank You Jesus so much for Lee in my life experience. You're doing such an amazing thing for these dogs! Your kind heart comes through as you take each individual dog into your heart and life giving them a second chance at life. If only there were so many more like you! All they need is kindness and love just like we do. You do such an amazing job making sure they all have that. May God always bless you for the soft heart that you have in a very difficult world.
