I'm Declaring 3/22 "International Talk Like William Shatner Day"!

In honor of William Shatner's 78th birthday tomorrow, 3/22/09, I, Maurice LaMarche, am declaring March 22nd to be "International Talk Like William Shatner Day!" (Hey, we have "International Talk Like a Pirate Day", and Shatner inspired a helluva lot more kids to be like Captain James T. Kirk than any who wanted to be some smelly, toothless, "arrr"-spouting frickin' pirate).
In fact, ya know what? It's not fair that this great holiday should fall on a Sunday! So, I further proclaim that, in any year when Mr. Shatner's birthday falls on a weekend (such as this year, 2009), ITLWS Day shall move to the immediately following Monday. So in reality, March 23rd is "International Talk Like William Shatner Day!" ! So, spread Shatner Cheer around the office TODAY!! Requisition stuff like you're talking to Scotty in Engineering. Treat your assistant like Yeoman Rand. Or Candice Bergen (on second thought... perhaps not). When you're getting that prostate exam today, pretend you're in sickbay having a Suarian brandy with "Bones". Go... for ...IT! My frieennd, my... small friend!
Now, since talking like our hero is a bit more challenging than walking around going, "Arrr", I've included the following impromptu video tutorial for your edification, filmed by producer Bill Biggar, on a loooong drive to the airport on L.A.'s fabulous 405 freeway. Ten years after watching your video, I'm watching a walkthrough of the Star Trek computer game Judgment Rites, which I played back in the 1990s, and in the first mission, Kirk says "Spock, sabataage the system. Spock, restore the atmosphere." I figured the line was from The Animated Series, not the more recent computer game.

You do a truly brilliant Shatner impression, Maurice. In light of your legendary rendition of Orson Welles doing the frozen peas commercial sessions, it only makes sense that you'd tackle the William Shatner voice-over outtakes as well. And yes, Shatner's stubborn refusal to pronounce "Sabotage" a certain way always stuck in my memory. Also, I think it was on the Merv Griffin Show during promotion of "Star Trek: The Wrath Of Khan" where Shatner also refused to pronounce "wrath" in the typical manner, instead saying "Wroth" (as in moth or goth), because (as he proudly added) he's a classically trained actor.
