Amazing the collection service you have there... Here in the UK we have one wheelie bin emptied once every three weeks. If the lid does not close, they might not empty it. Recycling containers get emptied once a week though. Anything else needs to be taken to community recycling centres, or you can pay the council to remove. Really handy how you can leave pretty much anything at the kerb to be removed. I love the fact that you recycle though, all this material needs to be reused. Great video.

Permission is a beautiful thing! I was scrapping in a dumpster of a motorcycle repair place. It was when it was closed but one of the people who worked their came out and asked if I was dumping in the dumpster. I explained no absolutely not and showed him what I had taken out of his dumpster in the back of my truck. He was actually happy to see that and told me what it cost per month for disposal. He then offered and set up a bin that they would put all of the metal in from their repairs. I now have this as a regular stop and all I have to do is pick it up! :)

As far as scrap yards, I drive out of my way to go to a small family owned scrap yard. They are honest and respectful, they are nice to my kids, and they pay well. If anyone watching is from South Jersey, their name is Groff's. Next time you get lunch meat, order 1/2 pound, and don't pay for it. Let's see if you make it out of the store.

Woah man that yellow bin was a cornucopia of good stuff!!! I'm a bucket hoarder as well lol I collect recycling bins and trash cans. Which comes into play in a little bit. I like to scrap as well. Only, I pull a trailer with my bike. So every little bit counts. A couple months ago my dad and I brought in a load of light iron. Oh yeah, it was definitely "light," tipping the scales at only ~250 pounds. Every time we pull in, I look around in wonder at the machinery and different bins and buckets about. With the steel, i had also loaded up a very nice, sturdy trash bin I had saved from a trash pile. It was full of Coaxial cable, at least 125lbs of the stuff. I called them a while back and they said they take it with steel. So, we dumped our stuff in a giant steel tub and it was weighed. Then, they, drive off with the metal bin. It's dumped into a pile outside the building. However my can of coax is left behind. Why, I wonder. Then, here comes another forklift, this time with a bigger, heavier metal container. They put my can on top and weigh it, USING IT AS THE TARE FOR MY LOAD. So, I see, they DON'T take coax. Not cool. Oh, and they used a bigger metal bin than what actually used to hold mine, essentially getting most of my steel for free. Face palm. I also realized where all their nice plastic bins and cans come from... about 30 seconds after mine joined them. Without my consent or knowledge of course. (-_-) Great day. Drove in with a truckload of steel, left with $3.39 and without my bin. I know, I shouldn't really care, it was a tiny load of iron compared to most scrappers and they probably get free containers all the time ( I don't, though). The workers just painted a bad picture of themselves, because if they are Ok with these little things, why should I trust them with my alu cans, or buckets of copper? It's really a shame too, they are only like 7 minutes away from my house. Most likely not going there again. Ok storytime is over lol Nice videos, keep up the great work!

Hello Paul. I'm not sure if I already commented on this video so I do it again. We have 3 scrapyards in my area, called around to check prices and the guy in one yard couldnt even give a staight answer like he didn't know the difference of White and yellow brass. The other yard I stopped by to talk to them but,, man, they had everything in a mess out on the grounds. Stepped in to the office and the guy was nice anyway but they almost had another scrapyard inside the office. That leaves me Staying with my old yard I have been going to for almost two years now. They are always helpful and not too pickie with the shred steel, non-ferrous they like it clean and now they don't even check my buckets as we trust eachother. I cut the connectors off scrapwire for example and they pay good money for it. Scrap safe and take care.

No scrap yards are not honest. The problem is there are no set standards. Some dont let you see the scale. categories are different in every yard. They try and get away with"forgetting" things. There is certainly a need for regulation in this industry.

I have been enjoying watching your videos. And I give you a lot of credit for where you have come from to where you are going. The reason I am going to comment on this video is I felt the urge to educate you on the scrap business. I ran a scrap yard for years and I know just how it works. To start with the scrap yard does not make 100% mark up on there stuff. A scrap yard has a lot of over head. Insurance on a scrap yard is very costly, then you have taxes, payroll, fuel for equipment and torches, electrical bill and the list goes on. Then you have people that well pull stuff like throw rocks off with there steal. Fill soda can with rocks or even nuts and bolts and crush them down. And the list goes on. I am not saying that all customers are like this, but I have seem my fair share of them. Like the old trick of filling a hot water heater with water before they dump it off. Now take it from somebody that has been there, your scrap yard is making like a 10 to 15 % profit on metal at best. And if the price drops before the yard gets the pile sold on, then that precentage gets even smaller. Of course that can come out in the wash when the price all of a sudden jumps up. Now I do agree you should of been paid for the copper. We always paid for a partial pound on non ferrous metals. Only on ferous metals did we not pay on a partial pound. But then again most ferrous gets truck weighed. Truck scales on weigh in increments of 20 LBS. So the scale always rounds down to the last 20 lbs increment. Just the nature of the beast. Hope that helps shed some light on things. Keep up with what you are doing. And clean and seperate everything you can. There is a lot better money to be made when things are cleaned, but there are those things that are not worth cleaning. So that is something you well have to figure out what is best for you. May God be with you Brother

I found three aluminum baseball bats in the garbage and was going to just scrap them when my son, who is 25 and grown saw them and suggested I don't as they might be worth more just to sell, so I gave to him and said go for it. Turns out the one sold new for a couple hundred and they are selling on the internet used for over 100.00- go figure right. In my day they were all wood and sold for maybe 20.00 new. Anyway, keep your eye's open- take care, NJ

@CornFed867 жыл бұрын
Next time I'd grab the bird cage, I know not much weight but can fold it down like dog kennel or step on it and make it basically flat. It all adds up :) I do that for basically all metal shelving. Once you lay it on its side it collapses very easily with a little weight. My claim is the opposite of most other things. The big yards are where I have found pay better. There is a little scrap yard near me that does the same thing. They also advertise 50 cents a pound for UBC but if you don't have 50lbs or more it drops to half of that. I had no idea on the can thing until I took 30lbs in and got robbed. Awesome guy to let you dig in the dumpster too. Love the videos man, keep em coming. Behr > A. Miller & Co.

I feel ya on price from the scrap yards. From my house in Phoenix I have access to four yards I call them all and what a difference in price they think we the scrappers are stupid and what we can't use a phone or computer! Now if I was to drive 30 miles from my house to the real big scrape yards the price goes up by almost double for certain metal. The trade off is driving that far and wasting gas. So for steel I stay local but for non ferrous I will travel. Best of luck and separate the best you can!

Hi Paul, been watching some of your older videos a second time today because I hurt my knee yesterday and am going to be out of the scrap business for a couple weeks it looks like.....so I am just hanging out with my leg elevated on my couch binge watching your videos today on what would normally be a beautiful day here in Youngstown Ohio to be out scrapping. But this video...where Zimmermans tried to cheat you out of that copper.....I so know and understand how that would have made you upset and made you feel the way you did and I dont blame you at all for the rant. There are 3 different scrap yards in my local area and a fouth a little further away. When I began scrapping here I used to in the beginning go to all of them. If I was out and about and got a full truck and still wasn't finished scrapping, I would just swing by the closest scrap yard to where I was at and sell the shred steel and then go back to my route and keep grabbing scrap. That was until this one scrap yard called Metallico here in Youngstown tried to rip me off one day on some aluminum. I was planning on doing some scrapping one day in the area of that scrap yard, and I decided as I was headed over there that I would on my way swing by and drop off a bunch of aluminum that I had been stock piling at the house. I had it all seperated into different bins, I had sheet aluminum, clean aluminum as well as cast aluminum and aluminum breakage and I had all of it seperated into bins on my truck except the sheet aluminum which I just had stacked in the back. Well I get to the scrap yard and I start bringing in what I had telling the guy this is all breakage and then this is all cast aluminum so on and he weighs each seperate as I bring them in and I see him writing it down so I am not thinking anything about it. He gets it all weighed and he enters everything in his computer there which is how they do it at that scrap yard and he prints me out a ticket to take up front to the cash office to get paid. So I go up to the cash office never looking at the ticket he gives me and the woman pays me and I get back out to my truck and I am a little dissapointed because I was thinking I would get a lot more money out of all that then I did because I had like 42 pounds of cast aluminum and another 30 or so pounds of sheet aluminum at the time and I cant remember how much else I had along with probably 15 pounds of aluminum breakage. But the receipt the woman in the cash office gave me said only one thing. Aluminum breakage and the amount of weight and what they paid me for it. I got back out my truck went into the cash office again and I tell her that I had so many pounds of this and so many pounds of that so on...and she shows me the ticket the guy had given me and all it said was so and so pounds of aluminum breakage....so she gets on the phone and calls down to the part where you turn in non ferrous metal and she had him on speaker phone so I could hear and the guy says that the reason he only gave me aluminum breakage was because I had aluminum breakage as well as the other aluminums and that when you mixed them that they only paid breakage prices. I said but I brought in bins one at a time where I had it all seperated and you weighed each bin as I brought it in and weighed all that sheet aluminum by itself and so I should have gotten a lot more because he was supposed to write down each category as he weighed them and pay me for each category. Well the guy tells me there is nothing he can do at that point because he had already tossed everything I brought in with stuff they already had so he tells me next time that I brought it in to make sure I only brought in one category at a time because he said even though I had it seperated that because I brought it in all at once that they could only pay me the lowest price for it all.......I was like really even though I have it seperated for you....your still going to give me the lowest price for all of it just like if I didnt seperate any of it and the guy says yes and that if I wanted the better price to bring in the clean aluminum by itself next time. I was so mad that I asked to talk to the lady in the cash offices boss and guess what.....she tells me I just did.....so I said he owns the place and she said no he doesnt own it but he is the manager over it for the owner. So I knew it was going no where......it still upsets me just thinking about it as I type and I am sorry for my mis-spelling of words....but I did exactly like you decided in this video....that was the last time I ever went to Metallico of Youngstown Ohio again.....I said there are other scrap yards near by that seem to treat me well and I would rather drive the two extra miles to sale it to them instead of ever getting cheated like that again. Later I found out through experience that another yard in Liberty Ohio in a little town just North of my house they had a place called Liberty Iron and Metal that actually paid more than any of the scrap yards I had been going to in Youngstown. So the last several years I will bring the scrap home if I get full , throw it off in the back yard...go scrap some more, then drive the 3 extra miles and take it to Liberty Iron and Metal for the few extra cents a pound....but they also have never treated me badly at all. I dont feel cheated and like you were saying about Zimmermans rounding everything off , I cant stand scrap yards that round everything off because they will always round it down instead of up so they get a little more out of it.......the scrap yard I regularly go to now....they pay you pretty much to the penny exactly what it weighs....if the scale says you got 8 pounds and 10 ounces of copper they will go ahead and just call it 9 pounds.....I love that.....not just because they are giving me a little extra, but because I know they are not ever going to try and cheat me if they are willing to do something like that.. It really stinks that there are scrap yards out there though that treat people that badly and will cheat them......they should all realize....anyone in the scrap game...every penny counts....we aint doing it just because we want to help them make money...we are doing it to make some money ourselves also.....anyway...love your older videos and glad I can go backi and watch ....Helps take my mind off my busted knee

Dis honest scrapyards!!!! This is where the little scrapyards really suck They have a tendency to ding you really hard They know it and you know it But this is how they make their margin!!!!!

I'm glad you have good scrap yards
@TAOicemicrophone7 жыл бұрын
There is a scrap app for phone and scrap prices online. Call your scrapyard before hauling it all. I called the closest scrapyard and they gave me bogus prices much less than internet said so i called a fellow scrapper who suggested a different one that paid much more. Also that steel and stainless isnt worth the gas, but your recycling which is good.
@ScrapPalletMan7 жыл бұрын
I got the iscrap app. is there a better app?
@TAOicemicrophone7 жыл бұрын
Scrap & Pallet Man i meant that my buddy suggested another scrap yard not app my bad, just google it and your yards prices should be no less than 30-40 cents per pond than google #. they should be weighing out partial pounds mine does.

T AK okay cool. I understand now. I'm going to need it keep my non-ferrous in my storage unit until it builds up and then take the drive to get the better price.

I know this is an older video but I've gotta say. Wow I wouldn't want to deal with him either. How many times has he pocketed a lb of copper or what ever then made a good amount off of your effort.

Random sampling of people that are not subscribers and not feel Milyer with your Channel suggest that maybe one of the factors is there is little if at all no swearing on your channel and you seem like a wholesome guy. Other than that I have nothing to offer as to what's up!!! And I watch your channel!!!!!😁👍

When the owners drive a Beamer.... you need to find another yard to deal with
@jameshack4857 жыл бұрын
Your yard also didn't pay you a higher rate for the cast iron tub. It should be a few bucks more per ton but still, it should be higher than regular shred.
@ScrapPalletMan7 жыл бұрын
Yeah... and after reviewing my footage, they didn't pay me for the stainless either.

Stay away from them. Look at how they affected you. God wants you to stick with the honest people, not the ones who get you riled up. It's not good for your being, your soul.

good for you!!very proud of you,not only did that yard loose your future scrap but also fellow scrapers that you tell about their shadiness,there is a zimmermans scrap yard in Manchester ct,i stopped in once to get their prices,the owner was saying the most racist comments to a black man ,I walked out,never returned,and I told all the scrappers I knew about the racist asshole at zimmermans and to stay away!the owners of zimmermans are at a kindergarten level in the knowledge of life,we are here to help each other any way we can,the clowns in charge of this realm want us all competing/fighting with each other so they can do what they want without us coming together and making this place fair for everyone! isn't trump a billionare,hey Donny how about buying up carnival cruise lines,rebate anyone with a ticket and park 200 cruise ships around Puerto rico for the next 6 mounths!
