Good evening explorers and thank you for watching. I know this is an entirely different kind of video than I'm used to but I hope you all enjoyed! I will come back to ITR 2 when it is in a more complete state but for now, I will be playing ITR 1 among other things.

It's a good call to just let ITR2 sit and stew for a long while, and let it get plenty of updates, better to not burn yourself out in Early Access and not want to even play the full game anymore. I've been there.😆

One thing that didn't get touched on is the location scaling by security level. I personally hate it. I don't know if they did it just because there's only 2 maps or if it will be the plan for the full game but I feel it's way less organic and removes all feeling of progression. I loved in ITR 1 that you would get stronger and be able to more easily get closer to the radius and beat harder locations and missions. Imagine if instead you geared up for the first attempt at the intrusion and you spent all your resources and effort getting through pervomay just to get to the factory because pervomay's difficulty increased with your level. I hope the plan is more like ITR 1's once more maps get implemented.

When I first saw the new map style, being an electronic tablet rather than a paper map with a light strapped on, I was kinda nervous about everything looking too clean- I loved the feeling of being completely outclassed in ITR 1 And when you finally got a kitted out rifle you felt much more confident and prepared, leaving the cosy base now ready for what’s coming. Now it feels like a massive empty space that should be filled with other explorers

Should be an upgrade. Need to put money into looking and getting nicer items like clothes and tablets.

This is REALLY interesting input. My friend HATED the first ITR because the enemies weren't relatable (purely black voids from limbo), the world was "meh" and, for him, the immersion wouldn't click. Basically, everything you criticized is what he is really looking for. For me ... well, most of it makes sense. The UNSPC would improve their safezones, become independent and able to exploit the Radius to their leasure. And, since it's a leap into the future, the Radius would replicate/produce things way better than before i.e humanized/colored enemies. Can't ellaborate on a "review" per se since I'm still playing ITR1 and trying to 100% it, then 1.0. But I'm pretty confident they'll get everything right eventually. Confident or hopeful.

I agree with most of these except for the fact that why replace something that is cheaper, and works. AKA bullet casings, and the ammo and cigs found in the radius being UNSPC hardware is just stupid and weird. Removes all immersion in my opinion. But ofc it is an opinion.

For me, the problem was so goddamn fuzzy and blurry, I'm not sure if it was my horrible eyesight or settings, but trying to focus on anything was really hard.

I agree with your opinion on the art style 100% The grittyness of ITR1 made it feel like humanity was truly exploring the radius. They're working with what they have, and don't exactly have the knowledge or equipment to deal with the radius after it appears unexpectedly, but are making it work regardless. I think the devs are trying to make things in ITR2 more like The Institute from Roadside Picnic, where everything is much more funded and structured, but it removes the feeling of surviving. They aren't working with what they have, they're working with the funding of several nations. It feels like a lot is being retconned and makes everything feel cheap. I hope the devs make changes to make the narrative and thematic transition between ITR1 and ITR2 more seamless. From a narrative idea I think it would be interesting if the radius in ITR2 was a different radius from ITR1. Similar to how there's six different zones across the world in Roadside Picnic. It would explain why the map is different, and explain why ITR2 seems to be better funded and better equipped. I understand it's in early access, (early into early access at that) and I'm excited to see things continue to develop. It just needs more time in the oven.

That is something that a lot of people have been speculating on, the idea that we may not be in Pechorsk but somewhere else entirely. I initially rejected the idea but I do think it is plausible now.

i kind of miss how most of the time when playing itr1 it just felt like stalker, using dirty and primitive guns and equipment is cool for the atmosphere. itr2 sort of "americanified" everything, making the guns and equipment higher quality, changing the mimic voicelines. its also kind of sad since thats something they wont change when the full game is released

Well look at it from a lore standpoint. Before, the UNPSC didn't really have a motive to invest in researching the Radius. Then, when Explorer #61 completed the Ouroboros mission, it did SOMETHING that made the UNPSC want to invest more money and resources into the project, hence the cleaner equipment, larger and more advanced base, and higher-quality firearms. And the mimics... I like the new visual designs a LOT, but the sound design is... I'd like the old sounds back.

I don’t know, dude, and I mean this with the utmost respect, but I disagree with most of what you said and honestly, I think the game is in very early access and some people had higher expectations than they should have. ITR1 is a finished and polished game so it’s not a fair comparison at this point. I respect your opinion as an ITR player because you’re probably the best player I’ve ever watched but it seems you’re not an early access type of guy. Especially not for a game like ITR because you’ve invested so much time and effort. You may feel differently when the devs finish up the game. I will say without the lore or being told we are funded and upgraded, the change at the home base is shocking. We also have to remember ITR1 is set in the 80s with ITR2 being early 2000s; huge difference technology wise. I also think we deserve some upgrades for all of our hard work in ITR1. I won’t argue artistic changes for items as those are subjective. I do agree with the floating mechanic; I like it, but wish they left something on the ground, blood spatter, something so I know how many dudes I took out. I also agree with finding more twisted objects which I think is the direction they are going according to some dev diaries I read. Overall, I’ll watch your content in ITR1 or 2. Look forward to the zone series and Stalker mod.

I tried to make it clear that I wasn't judging it by what it was missing, rather by what it has but you are correct. I do not like early access games. Playing it chunk by chunk over months and sometimes years will burn me out and my enjoyment of the final product will suffer as a result. I felt obligated to make an exception for ITR 2 but it's become clear that isnt the right path for me forward. Obviously my opinions on the art direction are subjective and very unlikely to change but a lot of people sit in my camp. I have no doubt that the game will be great eventually but I still wanted to get my thoughts and feelings out on what's there and where things look like they are headed.

I can see myself getting tired of it, too, but those are the drawbacks of early access. I wanted to get my hands on it so bad but then become impatient with the progress. Looking forward to you getting back to ITR1 content. I was thinking of going back myself.

Metric fuck ton of respect for your opening statement. The drive to create "content", or what we used to just call videos, JUST for the sake of making them and generating views is a massive part of why KZbin has gone down the tubes, in my opinion.

Really good critique, dude. I've been having my ITR2 love fade a lot too, but I knew this point would come with it not being finished and having no end goal in sight and no story whatsoever yet. My biggest gripes right now for sure come down to the Reflectors. Holy crap, they're the most annoying anomaly ever now. lol ITR1 had reflectors as a fair and sparse anomaly with consequences, but now the gameplay loop and pace is severely shot in the leg with these things. In the Closed Beta it was manageable with their high pitched whistle, but now they make what I'd describe as "clicks" and "honks" that just sound like ambient noise, making them incredibly hard to navigate even when you're being careful. I actually really miss the Distortion anomalies, personally. If you're rushing, you might accidentally have to tank damage from one, and it's fine. More so, though, I truly miss their sound aesthetic. I've consequently called them the "dubstep cubes" because that wubwubwub is synonymous with ITR for me now. lol

Just.. general agree on everything. Didnt play itr2 much for these reasons, especially especially knives.. even just not having those made me enjoy the game alot less- you run out of ammo and you have litteraly no other options, plus spawns are alot harder to deal with if you're bad at aiming like me. Im not gonna repeat your arguments but do know that i agree with em- hopefully changes are made because i wouldve loved to play itr2 properly but i couldnt really bring myself to play alot in its current state.

I am actually kinda "happy" to see the Video. I didnt know if I am doing something wrong, or why I felt like I didnt enjoy it too much. I couldn´t play more than 1 - 2 runs (2 only in early game) Now my opinion on your Points (if you wanna hear it) - The Home base I like the new modern look, it makes im more apocalyptic in my opionon. But I get your opinion on the equipment, I would enjoy it more if I would get "junk" equipment. Something like Iron Lung, where you are like a slave for the Power above. I dont hate the new base, but I liked the old one better. But I wouldn´t critic it o much because they had to change something. And I love the Tablet, makes me feel like a 6 year old playing Ipad 10hours a day. - The Entities The Enemys itself are a big downgrade. I loved the just black look. Pecho... I miss the old one The annomalys look great, but are just a little overused, to many and everywhere - The Tide Love the change, nothing to say Gameplay: The Enemy AI: Great change, love it. But I think especially in early game there are to many packed in one place. Spawns: I dont like the change, I just loved slashing them midair in the first part. Reflectors: Yes, there are to much. I dont enjoy running into them all the time. The Chair: Yes, less annoying but also to much Electro Cubes: Most of the time they are fine, but in a single mission (the one where you have to reaktive stuff with your watch) the first area just was so annoying, dealing with 2 at the same time. The Portals: Yes, but it should be reversable, so I can go back Combat: I didn´t realy notice anything, but I mostly played Pistols Melee Weapons: YES BRING THEM BACK

Your take on itr2 mirrors some of my gripes with the game atm. While I personally don't mind the artstyle change in some areas (like mimics and their glowing jaws I personally like because I hate mimics in the dark) but spawns being just a ball of ribbins is kinda dumb. It also made me wish knifes were in the game and wonder why they werent implemented in the first place. But the worst aspect is the anomalies, mainly the reflector and the electro anomaly. reflectors are just how you describe it but the electro is just annoying. An AOE field that covers a way too big area is just frustrating and made that stupid sensor mission way harder then it should. but I would be fine with it if they werent everywhere on the map. Like why are they placed on almost every part of the map? I just want to get from point A to point B without having to use my syringes. Overall I like ITR2 and theres a bunch of stuff I like better then ITR1, but it definitely needs a lot of work. It also made me want to go through ITR1 on ironman realistic and so far I'm having fun with it. I am excited to see where it goes though and hope it improves.

The moving aim sway. I could understand while sprinting, but not moving regularly. We never would’ve been successful clearing buildings if we just stopped moving whenever we had to engage. We trained and became efficient while moving with a purpose and firing. At least on non-sprint, aim sway needs to go.

The scissor ribbon guys are cool. I mean before was just like a living squiggly doodle. Now it makes a little more sense to be an animated object being. Like a face hugger but less animal identity. 😂 Enemies are fine sorta for now since theres more to come but its the severe lack of content besides reused side missions that really does the most damage. They probably should of waited longer before releasing ea. Another map n a few more enemy types or at least until it had majority of the basic mechanics from the 1st one. Like food n stamina levels, gun cleaning and maintenance which would of slowed gameplay a tiny bit but not enough to hurt the ea. I mean I got to security 3 without having to do alot of forest missions really and got kinda burnt out for a bit too since lacking n a bit repetitive. So I run peninsula randomly alot to stack loot sinceonly one can do whole map without wasting a heal. Slowly stack money n bullets too once i get a nice stack of meds for forest runs. Since you kinda need it in order to go deep into forest for a few day cycles. Dont get enough in return it feels like there compared to peninsula, but then again havent ran forest since before the recent minor patch. So hoping its better now just sooo many more enimies and fights compared to loot n cash. I know cant be too easy either tho

I couldn't agree more and I think sitting tight is the right call. The art style pieces that you mentioned turned me off immediately. It looks way too clean and the live ammo counters on the boxes can eat my ass. Bring back the grimy scavenging post-apocalypse vibes!

The gameplay and the world layout to me make it seem like the thing behind the Radius is an intelligence that is intentionally trying to make a real-life video game, or challenges to put people through. Like the actual intention is to make it all a game with carefully constructed challenges and rewards for completing them. As if it is playing with the people who are there to study and research for its own entertainment, without fully understanding human concepts or ideas but trying anyways.

I honestly felt like ITR2 is set 20 or 30 years after ITR1. Or at least the base is. The technology involved has definitely moved forward, but isn't current era. My head canon is that it's literally a new and different base located elsewhere. Like ITR1 might have been an old semi-deactivated base that the UNPSC had moved on from and your lost soul came back to the base from the fog. Then stuff happened. Then this is a currently active base that the UNPSC is working on and monitoring.

Very nice review. I believe your observations and suggestions are very well-rounded and fair. I'd like to see more variety that helps immersion as well. Good luck on continuing the ITR1 series!

Since you're going back to ItR1, I had a weird, dumb idea for a challenge run: Lights Out No flashlights, pocket lamps, flares, Night Eyes, laser/flashlight attachments, or even lighters, and you can only enter the Zone at night. It's a rough concept but maybe something worth trying if STALKER gets to be too much

I’m also taking a break from it. I “beat” the early access parts and did a lot of exploring. End game exploration is expensive, between the meds and ammo being spent. Co op with my friends is fun, when it works, which we seem to have lots of problems with and it’s hard to keep playing. Will return once the next big update, or maybe two, come out Edit: nerf electric anomalies, like mostly their cool down time. Let them go off, then have like a 5 second cool down so you can let them float away

From the start to 0:22 I felt the exact same way after a full week of testing n playing casually, maybe that's because I'm... I dunno, less lenient? I can see the potential, but it's just not here yet. 2:00 This whole section here... the feeling is way too different, less homey and more industrial. Fake. 12:20 Oh the combat... that weapon sway... glad you're touching on this annoying gameplay feature.

I actually agree, not exactly for the same reasons, but some I definitely agree with. My problems is that it just feels clunky and unresponsive, I constantly grab things that I wasn’t trying to grab and just feel kind of disconnected to the world around me. There’s no boxes and nothing like that, the ladders feel great but most things feel worse than ITR1. The enemies also feel pretty bad, mimics are WAAYYYY to smart and tactical and the spawn are no longer arachnophobia inducing monsters and are just annoying ass high damage dealing meatballs. I also feel a huge lack of communication between ITR2 and the quest 2. The lack of fragments also feel sad because I saw them as the face of ITR. In conclusion: I really want to like it but the lack of content and gameplay really make me feel annoyed. But this opinion may and (hopefully) WILL change.

I agree on most of the things you said. Pretty valid feedback. Tbh, I think we got a very good base for the devs to expand and build on for the future content. It took them like what, 2-3 years to completely transform ITR1 and just make it one of the best vr games on the market? We are for the long ride on this one boys.

It would be cool if the branded ammo being more expensive but more reliable so the gun doesn't jam as much but you still can buy/find the older ammo

My #1 gripe is how insanely dark itr2 is, I feel like I have to sleep through every night because I don’t have a headlamp and the new graphics make it truly impossible to not die immediately to reflectors or spawns

I've played for ~40 hours and I think the next time I'm going to touch it is going to be when the game is finished. And I'm not so sure they'll fix all those annoying things about it.

I bought it the first chance I could but I have been barely playing it for the reason that I don't want to get too invested in a game that's so unfinished and likely to face major changes. I feel burned from doing that with Phasmophobia.

Maybe the Radius is just replicating things brought into it by the UNPSC. Before when they were just using whatever they could that's what the Radius was copying but now since they are equipping explorers with their own fancy branded boxes the next game takes place long enough after that the radius has only UNPSC stuff to copy.

Since I use Valve Index, my guy will just stop gripping with my support hand if I don’t have a vice grip on my controller. Wish they’d add a pressure setting for Index. Having to white knuckle my controller to keep support makes my aim shakey. Since you’re using two controllers and not one long rifle like controller, it’s already a little more difficult to use weapons in game as a real weapon, I don’t need anything else like needing to death gripping my controller to make it harder. Edit: Other games do have a pressure setting for gripping with Index. It’s rarer, but much appreciated when it is an option. Edit edit: Index controllers have an extra thumb pad not being used. Allow me to re-bind jump to it. Missing a jump because I have to click in right thumbstick and it turning my camera mid jump is defeating.

My main issues with the game is that enemies are everywhere and they serve no purpose other than to make you lose ammo and time. The loot's all shit with the exception of the occasional green box, and even then you can still get royally stiffed. Geometry hitboxes is also really uncool... why would a skinny ass tree branch provide more cover than an entire boulder, why can I be hit through fence gaps while I myself can't shoot through fence gaps? What's the point of thick foliage of it only blinds me and only me? Why are enemies sometimes uber lethal marksmen, while other times they just stand around like idiots and let me shoot them? Why do I grab 3 different magazines when trying to get my pistol out? Why did I grab my backpack when I was trying to get to the light on my chest rig? Why did my rifle just suddenly fly off when I sat it aside for a moment? Why do mimics literally fall out of the sky? All and all. The game's got solid bones, but the little things make it a very unfun experience at the end of the day. I literally put this game down, picked ITR1 back up and said... huh... Is this what fun feels like?

I agree with the stuff about Varno. The new facility just isn't as cosy. I really, really liked the storage container room, and the computers with the green monochrome screens. I heavily dislike the new grey and blue windows 95 style. I do like the floating into the air thing, though. It's just cool. If they were to just drop to the floor like they used to, it'd be too easy to start seeing them as less of a threat, and less unknowable. I HATE the electric anomalies. Well, more the over-use of them. Really, really takes away from my enjoyment of the game.

The main HQ they have now should be something you come across and can make it your home base later in the game. Like 1/2 way. Make it almost nearly completed but have to clear it out and you see lot of corpses of former explorers who were building and got killed in an attack. Another thing. The current mimics. Those that are near perfect creations should be seen closer to the radius as it has more power and influence to make but have a lot of benefits such as reforming cores to balance out that you can see them farther away. In the beginning, far away from the radius center, you see more shadow and deformed human like entities as in the first game.

To be fair, after seeing everything in the game I stopped watching videos about ITR2 because there wasn't much more to see. So I definitely understand waiting for it to be more of a game. Most other people I watch stopped making videos on it at least a month ago

I hope the funding is explicitly explained because i have no idea how the ITR1 guy got them all that money. Seems like he was just one rando in a line of many while the world slowly forgot about them and let the facility decay.

Ive played itr1 and 2 and 1 is definitely more fun long term, but itr2 is definitely also a good but of fun when you are going for security lv 3 but it isnt realy replayeble itr1 is, and i do infact agree with most of the thing you say in the vid

lastly, there just isn't enough content. 1 tutorial looking small map and 1 big map, few main quests and at the end you fight in kinda like a mil base, kill all enemies, get the quest thing and leave. and that's the game. no story like katya in itr and it's extremely short

So the problem with the unfinished game is that it's an unfinished game (that is true) and the rest is personal preference? We all know that there's going to be corresponding lore that will rationalize our move to a cleaner facility (there's a little already). Even in this state, ItR2 is better than many full titles out there. While I do appreciate reviewers not just gushing over every title like it's the best thing in the world (and many do), contributing to more garbage being released in VR, these developers are so hands-on and and receptive to feedback that changes can be made based on anyone's input without disparaging the title based on its unfinished state. I ASSUME that good EA sales contribute to financing a better end product, so why mess with that? I liked the ItR1 videos on this channel and I would have at least expected a qualifier in the title of this one, like "yet," or "for now." (I can't remember the title, just the negative connotation) Personally, I absolutely love this game, which could be part of the reason why I'm reacting like this. It's not perfect, but already far more polished than it was a month ago, and my biggest complaint is how long we'll have to wait for major updates. ...and the VSS Vintnorez is to heavy and expensive to run efficiently.

No product especially one you have to pay for is immune to criticism. I was not judging the game on what it was missing, only what it has, and where the game appears to be going. Obviously everything I said was a matter of opinion, I didn't think I needed to say that plainly. The purpose of this video was to explain my perspective on why I was not enjoying it and what I think it was doing wrong in comparison to its predecessor. I have no doubt that it will improve and eventually become a game I can enjoy, but I wanted to voice my opinion and echo some of the community sentiment that sits in my camp on the matter

The non-immersion is oddly fitting with the lore since the first one is essentially a simulation. I mean, the radius is just changing the simulation so... the strangeness makes sense..? The combat is nuts for a solo player and I'm glad they haven't put in weapon degradation yet. Oy.... trying to take out ten mimics to try and push through that line halfway In the forest is brutal!

I'm fairly certain the weird difficulty balance is just a product of there only being one map. When more of the game is released the enemy concentration will become much more gradual

I like the aim sway for the exact reason you hate it lol. Last I checked it isn't immersive for your bullets to just magically go off in different directions vs just having your arms passively sway. I dare you to try and keep your aim perfectly still while holding a pistol in real life

You didn't really understand the point I was making. My issue with it isn't that it negatively impacts my aim, it's that it removes control from my hands. Even while walking and shooting (which I have done many times, I am an experienced shooter) you are still in control. You are in control of your of all of your body at all times. When in vr you take away my control, that's when I take an issue. Especially in a game like ITR where immersion is a large aspect of the experience

A gunstock makes vr shooting substantially easier but I do not use one. I'm fairly indifferent to it

I hate how many mimics and spawn there are, Id have to bring 3-4 full ammo boxes to clear a path to one of the more distant forest area's, especially with multiple mimic types taking 2 shots, or sometimes even 5 shots to the head to kill with 7.62, which seems insane to me. That and how insanely expensive ammo boxes (and most everything else) are, especially since many relics are only 100 credits, which would only buy you a single ammo box of the weakest ammo in the game. Unless you are doing 2-3 missions every time you go out you will probably spend more on ammo than what you make in the radius. not even mentioning how the SKS you can put an optic on costs 12000 credits, which is more than the AK we have. (plus, the weapons that have rails are stuck with this god-awful looking vertical grip no matter what)

True, plus they just added difficulties, though I havent checked how that changes things yet. For health at least, I'm okay with the full on juggernaut mimics having a bunch of health, so I hope reducing it doesnt mean every enemy is a oneshot with no in-between

What if into the radius 2 is a prequel to ITR. What if the UNPC had money which is why the facility is super futuristic but the explorers kept on dying ( why you are so alone in ITR )so they had to lower the funding and this led to the events of ITR where you are trying to get back the old explorers loot

And the enemy’s being so humanoid has something to do with the corruption of the radius which is why the mimics in ITR are just black pixels and why the spawns are just black tentacles instead of scrap metal
