Write on top of the permanent marker with temporary marker and erase it. Works like a charm.

For that permanent marker - color over it with a normal dry erase marker. The permanent and dry erase will both come off when you wipe it after.

The old 3k was a shame. I had two and they broke at first use. The massive and expensive 5k or focus are greats but im still searching for another options for vlogging lightweight

I’m currently using the 5k with my Sony a6400 and I’m happy but 3k is better to carry but what I am really waiting for is the SWITCHPOD! August is the month!! Can’t wait!

I switched from the 5k to the 3k for the weight but the bad plastic of the 3k is a shame. Two 3k broke at first use. I come back to the 5k and the focus for the a6500

The pro isn’t available on my country. Would you recommend the standard 3k version for a Sony A7RIII and 24mm GM or should I go for the 5K instead, for general seascape and long exposure photography while traveling - both are on sale so both are within my budget.

The 3k fell apart on me after 2 months... Both the legs started to crack and split(I never wrapped it around anything) and the thumb button to unlock the mount cmpletely broke

I went from the 3k to the Manfrotto Pixie Evo. Im so much happier with it! the legs just always broke on me doing simple movements with it.

Chris take a dry erase marker you would normally use to write on your slate and write over the permanent marker. It should take it right off!

Use anything with alcohol in it to remove the marker. I once had to use cologne to remove something I wrote on a whiteboard in school. It worked like a charm

Hey Chris, I have the 3k pod, several of them, some just a few months old and All have suffered the dreaded cracked Cup on the legs. Joby was good and replaced one, but that one cracked within a week so I just used ABS Cement and glued it in place, no time to wait or call them. I would be interested in trying out the Aluminum version as I do not trust Joby even using it as a tripod. Maybe they will upgrade me.

I'm still rocking the old version with the bubble leveler (not sure if that's the proper term) on the plate. Definitely doesn't look as sleek as the new versions, but that leveler helps a ton and the new ones don't seem to have them. Am I wrong?

Little tip - you can write over permanent marker ink using a non-permanent marker and rub it right off, works on a white board at least ymmv :-)

After only a couple of years my Gorillapod SLR Zoom's legs started cracking (thus making the whole tripod quite unstable). I'm not sure I'll trust this brand again.

If you spray Lysol on the slate and wipe with a paper towel right away it will clean it. Then spray cooking spray and wipe and boom

Thanks Chris for the video. I think if you had spoke more on the difference and why you would choose the pro over the standard 3K it would have added a lot more value to the audience. I have the original 3k and have the same camera / lens setup but find the legs not really strong enough for the weight despite the 3K label.

I tried to find an alternative to the joby gorillapod. After weeks of research, I can’t find anything close. I love and hate the product but ultimately it still seems like the fastest and most versatile solution for me. I travel, hike, etc and it just works. I wish there was a way to refurbish them when the legs start getting loose. Thanks for the video, I was curious about the new Joby lineup

Your slate isnt lost. Take a dry erase marker and color over the perm marker and it should wipe right off. Normally you do this the second you notice so not sure if it works after being there awhile.

To get rid of the permanent marker, use isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel - get's rid of it right away. Used it all the time on road cases that we'd have to write labels on with permanent marker. Stuff works wonders.

You can use perfume /Cologne/ deodorant to remove permanent marker on plastic services.

LOL to big booty 8 - If you draw over it with a dry-erase marker, THEN wipe it off, sometimes that's all that's needed :) Hope that helps!

You don't need a new slate, write over the permanent marker with a dry erase marker and it will remove the permanent marker.

@@TravoFoodie I love it! The magnets in the feet are my only complaint. They're not strong enough to hold the feet together over time. If you hold it with the right side facing up, they stay collapsed together from gravity and it's literally not a problem at all. Cody Wanner made a video solving this problem. They're customer service is amazing! I had one of the rubber feet fall off on the legs last month and I asked them for more on Facebook. They shipped me replacements for free in like 3 days.

You know Chris I agree with you on a lot of things but the GorillaPod a legacy product it may be is what is my absolute least favorite tools that we as film makers need. I did end up making a video on how to fix your janky Joby GorillaPod for when the bulbs break. using fasteners. Anybody ever has a problem with their GorillaPod breaking I totally suggest you visit my channel so that you don't have to throw away your hundred dollar prop! Also is anybody excited for the switch pod coming to Market?

You should be able to get rid of the permanent marker on your slate with some isopropyl alcohol. Get a bottle at Shoppers. Get the 99% stuff. Or you might even be able to get it with hand sanitizer.
