The switchpod is a really nice addition, but it cannot really replace the Gorillapod when you use it for more than vlogging. The Gorillapod can be attached or wrapped to nearly everything - the Switchpod is another form of tripod with an additional vlogging-functionality. And when using as a tripod, there is no way to change its height or change the individual length of the legs. There are surely lots of potential customers who really want to have it, but for me personally it wouldn't be much of a help. I would still need the gorilla.

Seems like a great product! I think they should attach tiny rubber pieces on the insides of the legs to prevent that metal or plastic 'clank' sound when opening or closing it. Sometimes you go from sitting to moving, or vice versa and that noise may cause some audio interruptions.
@mikevandebunt8116 жыл бұрын

I had to fight the local distributed to give me a new one because this was obviously a BIG and dangerous flaw. The replacement unit got loaned out to a friend who also returned it with a leg missing. I checked the replies first because THIS. When you 'sweep' to pick it up, its clunky sounding and noisy. The ball joint would split and get loose etc. Looked for alternatives without the ball joint. This new product you have is great, however there are still those instances where you have uneven surfaces and you're not able to bend the legs to grip around something. Still great for DSLRs though for ease and convenience.

I really like the product, for me, I don't I see it as the end of Gorilla Pod. With Switchpod you need a flat surface or nearly a flat surface. There is no flexibility if you are doing any outdoor vlog where you don't have a flat surface it will limit you. On the Pro side, I think the biggest + is size and shape. Easy to carry, less space in the bag. Overall I think it will be a hit product as a lot of influencers are backing it but from practical use, I think it's a good product with limited use. Tried backing it as I been following Caleb Wojcik for a while now, but the Kickstarter somehow changed the price and it comes out to the expected retail price $99 ($80+$11 for shipping). hence decided to wait till they start shipping. Good luck to Caleb and his partner. Good product but I personally think it will not replace Gorillapod

Exactly this, not to mention there are alternatives to the gorilla pod including one which I got free at a tradeshow (don't know the name) but just looks like a black snake. It goes almost as slim as the Switchpod but has the flexibility of a Gorillapod. Comes with a head too.

I think it's perfect for vloggers, but hard to say if it can outright beat what you can do with a gorillapod. I think you should blame Casey. He used the gorillapod as the vlogging standard. Everyone followed. Cool. The gorillapod's DEFINING feature is the flexibility. The biggest gripe with the gorillapod seems to be that it's not sturdy. Yea but that's because it's designed to be flexible. The "average vlogger" would probably find the gorillapod to be more of a better all rounder. [insert Peter jungle bird cry] But I will buy the switchpod. Because you love it. I believe that. And because it's made by Pat, whom I've known for a decade it seems (online marketing stuff). And I know Caleb from his Fizzle days. So it's a small world. And you should sub to pewdiepie. Out.

Not everyone vlogs in jungles. Most of them are city residents. Not very hard to find flat surfaces.
@JyrkiS6 жыл бұрын
Works well in cities, indoors. Then when going to forest, you don't need tripod, just wrap gorillapod around tree branch or something.

Gorillapods were never really great for Vlogging IMO. The switch pods feels a little gimmicky but it sounds sturdy

Spot on. Neither were DSLRs. Even if I wanted to shoot one-handed, most of my lenses would struggle to focus at a comfortable arms length. And why would anyone want a fixed-height, non-flexible, tinyass tripod? At no point does this product make any sense. Our dude has had too much caffeine.

@@milehighsi Honestly? IRL streamers and vloggers with smaller point-and-shoot cameras would love this.

Interesting... Not that I need one myself, but this seems like a great product for vloggers. BUT, what about leveling the camera? (I know you brought it up)

Why do You-tubers apologize for being paid??? Just mention the link and get on with it. First, its a GREAT product. Second, we watch these videos for FREE. No problem with you making a little out of it

Many people feel entitled to free content and will load the comment section of every new video with whining/unsub. It is natural that the youtuber will have some urge to defend themselves as would most people in general when faced with unwarranted criticism

Because people feel a slight bias towards the product Being reviewed
@mbealhighjump6 жыл бұрын
I think when reviewing/endorsing a product it's important for credibility. It's not about apologizing as much as it's about telling the audience upfront that you're being paid so they can trust your opinion. Imagine the backlash if he or other KZbinrs didn't disclose that they're being paid by a product and then the public finds out. It would compromise their credibility.
