Just a suggestion for the mailbox: You could glue little magnets in the seams to make it hold up better. That way you can still disassemble it to store or package it if you want to sell it after the wedding.

So tip from a bride (10 years ago) don't mention it's a wedding when you ask for prizes. They up everything as soon as you mention it's for a wedding.

Came here to say this, people use the excitement behind a wedding to wring thousands and thousands more out of you that they wouldn't get otherwise. Just call it a celebration or a party and do not mention the words wedding, fiance, or anything of the such because people are nefarious about taking advantage of what should be a wonderful occasion.

I got married a few years ago and this didn’t really work for me. Photographers sometimes have different styles for weddings and don’t expect to be at any event that’s not a wedding for more than 8 hours. I also found it cheaper to get a wedding photo package than stacking multiple event photo packages to reach my time limit. Most decor rental places I found require you carry event insurance for weddings and renting and not disclosing it’s a wedding and not giving them your event insurance (which will say it’s for a wedding) violated the contract. Event planners need to know it’s a wedding. Most of the time the costs aren’t actually more. I think I found only one vendor that charged more for the same products for a wedding than not. Best advice I found was to create a separate email for wedding things and then when you book your official vendors move them to you regular email. EDIT: It might also vary where you’re from. I live in the Orlando area (and got married in the Tampa area)so there were really no price differences here for any event vs wedding when asking for prices. Maybe in smaller towns or outside of this area!

As a bride that DIYed the entire wedding in October, my main advice is to have someone day of to set it up and ensure everything is complete. My wedding turned out beautiful but I was running around setting up until the last minute. The stress was insane. Everything looks beautiful so far and either way, the day is about celebrating your love with those you love 💕 Congrats and can’t wait for more videos!

Hitting the mailbox with a primer before you spray it will give you a much more even coverage... And be careful that the paint doesn't chip on your candle sticks if you didn't sand first. Adhesion may not be great. It's hard to paint shiny metal.

It’s only for a few hours for one day so I’m not worried about longevity! ☺️
@guLynx

@@ChloeRoseArt the reason it took 4 coats to get any kind of coverage on the mailbox is because you didn't use any primer though. With primer 1 coat may have been enough, 2 coats would be job done, and the coverage would have been absolute perfection, that mailbox isn't plywood, it's mdf and without primer it absorbs the liquid the pigment is suspended in far too quickly for there to be even coverage. If you had used primer with 2 coats of paint it might have actually looked like a metal one :) and the chipping on the candelabras might be smaller than what you're thinking of now, they might shed glitter like chips at first. also when you're spray painting anything it's a good idea to go in four directions, from up to down, down to up, from left to right and right to left. that way you get all the nooks and crannies :D

Congratulations! From a spray paint veteran i would recommend a clear coat probably a semi gloss or a gloss for the candelabras. this will do two things, it should bring out the shininess of the gold and also will lock in the paint and make sure it doesn’t just chip off. for the post box since you said you liked the finish i would recommend a matte. That should even it out a bit and also protect it. Also btw the rustoleum 2x is my favourite brand and i would recommend their clear product to anyone i keep a stash of the multiples of matte satin and gloss on hand.

The finish coat to protect it, is it labelled as a finish coat, or just as a clear coat please?
@laurNsG
@laurNsG 9 ай бұрын
@@gabrielleauclair254 depends on the brand but the rustoleum painters touch 2X just says “clear matte” or gloss etc. where as there is another spray that I have also used, that’s much thicker and its from verathane and it says “ triple thick one coat clear finish” I’ve only used that for one project in an instance where I needed a thicker finish. Usually, I just stick to the rust oleum 2X It works on pretty much every surface, paint, wood plastic metal, etc. also the matte (which I use most often ) doesn’t leave a hazy finish.

It's really not. My younger sister got married last year. Got married in the mosque and then booked a restaurant room out for her meal. Wedding cake was a normal bakery cake. Wedding photography and videographer. Dress was no more than 50 quid. They only invited their dearest and nearest. I think about 20 people from each side. Now my older sister, she has the whole shebang. Booked out the fancy town hall with a grand staircase. Had a 3 tier cake, DJ, catered table service. The expensive wedding outfits. 200 hundred guests. Wedding photographer and videographer. Table centre pieces. Decorations. She spent silly money on silly things. A wedding is as expensive as you want to make it. I would rather spend that money on a deposit for a house.

My sister had a very cheap wedding this summer. It was just close family and her BFFs family, like a dozen people. It was at a scenic state park on the river. They rented a covered picnic shelter (it was pretty cheap as long as you didn't tell them it was for a wedding when making the reservation). We had charcuterie boards and salad for lunch and a small cake (all the food came from Costco). Her best friend officiated. Her wedding dress was under $200, on discount, and her veil was second hand. It was really a beautiful, intimate, memorable wedding. I know many brides dream about a perfect big wedding, but if it's really financially out of reach, just remember that the best part of any wedding is having your loved ones there to witness you exchanging your vows with the love of your life. That's the most beautiful thing.

@@quisnessness that sounds beautiful! Not much that we wanted this big perfect wedding, we wanted to invite more of our friends and family, dance and have fun. But we decided to invite more people to the ceremony and then go to dinner in a restaurant with closest ones. I plan to find a cheaper dress. Also, while getting s bouquet, hair and makeup I don’t intend to tell it’s for a wedding. They charge everywhere more the second you say wedding.

A couple tips of painting objects from my experience The reason your candle holder or whatever had a matt-er finish is because your paint want right, the candle holders were already chromium finished, you needed to use a gold "glaze", a few coats over it make it look more realistic then anything spray paint can achieve As for the letter box, the reason it took many coats was because you had no base. You need to give a white coating first for the color to look bright on, otherwise color looks muddy and the undertones show through. Give it a Matt white coating first. Anyways! Amazing video as always and happy to hear about your wedding! 🎉

You are going to have a beautiful wedding. Super over the top expensive weddings don’t make for a better marriage. Such a waste of money to spend tens of thousands of dollars. Most guests don’t even remember a wedding several years later. The thing people remember about weddings is was the food good or bad and was the music too loud. Brides always look lovely.

Thats what I always wanted BUT I married an Aussie and was upset “knowing” the wedding would be my “last” big life event in the USA… so we got sucked into the wedding planning black hole. If I did it again - teeny tiny wedding that costs next to nothing and a cool/bigger honeymoon.

I did my whole wedding for $1200 I think. I am in Australia and decided to marry my best friend who was in Maine. It was pretty last minute, so and I didn't really have family there, so it helped with pricing. I was never one that cared about a big wedding though. Even as a little kid, I always just thought I would have a backyard wedding like they did in the Brady Bunch, and it actually turned out that way. Mother in law had a HUGE yard and was perfect. One of the reasons for keeping the price low was knowing that we would have to spend the money on moving hubby to Australia. We found a beautiful dress, husband was a wedding photographer, so one of his best friends who was also in the business shot the wedding for free, plus hubby had some other connections too.

Oh yeah, Weddings are super expensive. I got married October 2022. We saved money wherever possible so we were doing a lot of DIY, and shopped for that DIY whenever the craft stores had sales going on. I even did my own florals. We went for a rustic Autumn vibe, so I did some foraging. Went out into the woods and collected cute acorns and pine-cones to put inside some mansion jars and lanterns for the centerpieces, had my dad grow some white pumpkins and various gourds in his garden to use as decor along the aisle and other places that they made a cute touch. Used some cute rustic looking things my in-laws had around their farm as decor, dug out the hand made bird cage my grandfather made me to decorate and use for the card box... The only thing we bought for decorations were the lanterns and silk flowers/leaves, everything else we either already had available or picked up for free. Looked beautiful once it was all pulled together. I was very happy with it.

Ok...gonna break what we did when I got married. (First of all, YES TO BRIDESMEN!!!) We had IKEA lanterns for the centerpieces, took out the glass panes and made them our centerpieces with tealight candles, book pages that were origami'ed and flowers. We gave them away that the end of the night with the glass panes to the people who helped us as thank you gifts. ***OUR FLOWERS CAME FROM COSTCO!*** They were gorgeous and so inexpensive for how beautiful they were. We used book pages from one of our favorite books as table runners/centerpieces. People told us how much they enjoyed trying to 'figure out where they were in the story.' It was really, really fun. For anyone reading--you can do so much with so little. Thrift stores, Facebook marketplace, sales. Think outside the box.

Your wedding decorations look fabulous! The British touch of the mailbox is really special. I love it all! You saved yourself soooo much money! And sorry for this lengthy comment below…it’s about my recent experience with Joy and now the JoyXtra. OMG….you went down the Cricut rabbit hole. I did too in the last year or so. I bought the Joy too….barely touched it for almost a year, then I decided to put it to use. I started really enjoying it, especially for cards. But then back in the fall, they brought out the Cricut Joy Xtra. It can do wider material AND, you can do your own “print then cut” STICKERS….something you can’t really do on the baby Joy….there is a hack work-around I’ve seen, but I think the steps are a bit fussy, with not as good results,imho. I think you will enjoy the Joy a LOT! I considered getting a Cricut Maker 3, but I don’t really need all of the functionality it offers…A LOT, but it also costs a lot more at $349 so I settled for the Xtra. And FYI: Dollar Tree sells vinyl (and standard grip mats) that you can use on your Joy but in fewer colors. Another FYI: You can buy the wider vinyl to use on the Joy….you just have to cut it to size so that it fits on your mat. And when you cut cardstock, I would advise using a “light grip” mat bc for me, at least, the paper tore a bit on a standard grip mat as I was pulling it off, but didn’t on the light grip. I got a pack of like 3 or 4 mats on Amazon for my Joy for like $11 or $12 and a light grip and standard grip was included. And “Smart Vinyl” is nice….you don’t have to use a mat, but it is more expensive. Have fun! p.s. I’ve really enjoy watching Bethadilly on YT…she does a lot of vinyl crafting and heat transfer with Cricut & other machines (she makes a lot for her 3 young kids) and I learned a lot from her and she’s really sweet, funny and fun to watch. Of course, there are lots of great Cricut KZbinrs to choose from…I just enjoy watching Bethadilly a lot.

We had a wedding with 20 guests. DIY'd deco and bought stuff on sale. Zombie themed wedding. Our family did a pitch in for food as well. Mexican background so that's normal for us. Grand total $1000. Friend got ordained for us. Venue was at a park indoor nice building with a kitchen $150.

I painted candelabras & candlsticks in flat white to look like plaster, with peach & sage ribbons & flowers to tie to the legs of white sheets covered with lace curtains draped on all the tables. Then peach flower arrangements on the tables. Also a round table covered the same only with palm leaves spraying out from under the cake, for the wedding cake, for my sisters wedding at a yacht club in Connecticut. All things I already owned, but the ribbons! The whole room looked like a big wedding dress. It sounds messy, but it really did come out GORGEOUS. And romantic, in an exposed brick room, in an evening wedding. It just GLOWED. it took me weeks to paint it all. My sister only had to pay for the venue the food & the flowers, which I arranged in my own various clear vases in different ways for each table…going down the center. I should ask for some photos, as I was too busy to take any. What STRESS, taking it all down at midnight! I LOVE what you did here & want to see MORE! Yes…primer should’ve been used, but high hopes things won’t chip off before the big day. You’ll be a gorgeous bride!🩷🩷🩷💕

Congratulations!! My wedding was nowhere near the average cost, maybe a tenth. My dress was $200, wedding rings were about that, too. Venue was free-it included tables and chairs. Photographer….was my new brother-in-law. I DIYed invitations/announcements, parents helped set up and diyed decorations. My grandmother made my veil. New sister-in-law made cake…..so a max of $2000 for the whole wedding and reception and open house. Could have done it even cheaper if we wanted. One of my sisters-in-law’s weddings was also incredibly cheap. She got a custom made dress from me for the price of the fabric, had a free venue, diy decorations, etc. Weddings don’t have to be expensive…….

Always remember, the most important things on the wedding day are you and your fiancé and that you are both there and happy; everything else is extra. It’s about the marriage, the lifetime together, not the wedding. I know some think it is cliche, but it’s very true especially when folks spend more money on a wedding than what a small house would cost or a vehicle. And some people spending $10k-100k 😳 for just the dress that will be worn once is utterly ridiculous malarkey. Don’t take my single word for it, even though I photographed many weddings, take the word of folks married for decades, sometimes 60 or 70 years and still happy together!

Ahhh!! 😁 So exciting!! Ive been married twice and would get married many more times if I had to because I love the DIYing so much! 🤣 I did all my table decorations both times, though covid got my 2nd wedding and we couldnt have a reception and could only have 5 people. But I bought everything to do centrepieces and loved the process. Very excited for you!! ❤️

So for our wedding, we found a miniature castle venue that was around $3k, so we cut corners on everything else to get the space we wanted. I made the boutineers out of perler beads so they looked 8-bit, made the bridesmaids bouquets by making paper flowers out of video game strategy guides, and got most of our centerpiece items from IKEA. The best thing was the food… there was a pizza place with a food truck, so we got full catering from them for under $700. Video game theme wedding with pizza just so worked. We ended up finding pizza pans for cheap at a restaurant supply store and added those to the centerpieces… nobody knew they were pizza pans until we told them. Gave us something to give away that could actually be used, rather than flowers that just wilt. DIY can be so stressful, but is so worth it. It makes for a wedding people talk about for years, and saves so much money. Congrats and keep it up!

“I know! Someone actually wants to marry me” 😂 I felt that way too. You’re awesome though so it doesn’t surprise me. Edit: I think they turned out very well I have a huge family. Over 60 of us. So I didn’t have a wedding, necessarily. We went to a court house and just our immediate family came to that. Then we held a family potluck type of reception at a later date. So people made whatever they wanted, and we laid everything out. Southern cooking mixed with northern cooking lol. It was autumn themed. So we had fake fall leaves on the tables with gold and white table cloths and it smelled like typical autumn/fall candles like cinnamon and pumpkin. It was nice and there was no stress what so ever. So that was me and my husband and it worked for us. I’ve seen other people go a similar route lately and I’m glad it’s being more normalized now. Especially with how expensive things are. 😅 My mom made my wedding cake too. She’s a baker and crafty so thank goodness for her, we didn’t have to buy a cake.

Congratulations!!! This is so exciting!! I'd love to see everything you craft for your wedding!! I want to see it all put together too!! Reuse your transfer tape multiple times. You can also use cheap clear Contact paper. I've had a Cricut since they came out. There are loads of cheap tricks online. Good luck and I'm so happy for you both. Who wouldn't want to marry you?!

Great video, I hope you have a wonderful wedding. You can burnish out most bubbles in the cricut stuff. Sanding and re-applying paint to the post box could smooth out that texture. If you are worried about fumes you can get better personal protection equipment. (PPE)

We did my daughter’s wedding in Silver sage a couple years ago and we DIY’d most of it. We painted the backside of acrylic and used the cricut on them. You don’t have to keep the $10 a month if you don’t use it. You can also pay per image but if you use like 2-3 a month it’s worth the cost. I have quite a few I own already because I had them back when they used cartridges. I love the palms. I just don’t know if I love them with the candelabra

Congrats on the engagement! I prefer sliver I usually avoid yellow colors because it hurts my eyes. But I’m happy you love the designs that you made : ). If I get married my colors would be black, sliver, and purple : 3.

You could string beads or crystals from the 4 branches of the candelabra. & who needs that many candelabra after the wedding? Place a unique sticker under one chair at each table, the person who has the sticker “wins” the candelabra (an extra souvenir of your nuptials) [instead of stickers ribbons or bows on the chair backs would work-for tropical/glam I imagine several greens with corals, one chair gets gold added]
