There aren't many hickory trees in or around Australia. They would have to import the wood first. They already have plenty of ash. Maybe another company in north america will start making them.

I've got hickory out the ying yang around me. Several different species. Excellent fire wood, handles & lumbar. Also, white oak, red oak, & chestnut oak. Hey @killinger you ever tried dogwood or heard of anyone trying? I've got a dogwood walking staff I made and it is freaking super tuff and flexible. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Axes are just a love of mine also. Grew up around them in the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia. Would set around the camp fire at night and all the men would tell there stories of the old days when logs were skidded with horse or oxen. Was born a century too late I’m afraid.

36 for splitting axes and mauls for me too. Broad ax, I use a 40 inch handle made by an Amish fellow in Shipshawana.
@jamesrice72872 жыл бұрын
Wow man 40 is massive. I'd like to try one like that someday. I've always thought 36 was huge. I usually like around 33 for splitting. I definitely want to try one of those curves in a heavy short handle. Maybe 28, or 29. 4.5 ish head.

As i tell my buds, hang distance depends on the axe head and axe handle and the man mating the two lol. Ive got some with large distance to get the extra reach and some no distance ones when the handle fits just right.
