Not me sitting on my couch, belting out the alto. 🥹 Wish I had a Sacred Harp group near me. Such beautiful music and so much fun to sing.

I was raised in an Old Time Pentecostal faith led church. My sister and I used to sing this way as a mixing of voices. People in the church would do the same. I always knew we sang differently than in many other churches, but now I feel the history to it and why it is so important. Sweetly sings our souls.

Farewell, vain world! I’m going home! My Savior smiles and bids me come, And I don’t care to stay here long! Sweet angels beckon me away, To sing God’s praise in endless day, And I don’t care to stay here long! Chorus: Right up yonder, Christians, away up yonder; Oh, yes, my Lord, for I don’t care to stay here long. I’m glad that I am born to die, From grief and woe my soul shall fly, And I don’t care to stay here long! Bright angels shall convey me home, Away to New Jerusalem, And I don’t care to stay here long! Chorus…

I’ve just come across this style of singing and it “sounds” (I’m no musician so I apologise for not knowing the correct terminology)not too dissimilar to the hymnal tradition of Presbyterian churches ,especially in the Western Isles ,in my country,Scotland; but without that steady metronomic beat .It’s called Salmadaireachd -trans.-Gaelic Psalm Singing`There are some examples of this on KZbin - under Gaelic psalm singing ;the “Gaelic psalms at Back Free Church “ is my favourite
@dolceolarecordings Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the great information. Checked the Gaelic psalm singing and it was beautiful. It sounds very similar to some Anabaptist hymn lining such as Amish and Old Regular Baptist singing styles; Ausbund #414 / Old Order Amish Group kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5CmhZKEmdl3n7c Attend Young Friends, While I Relate / Lined-out Hymnody at Mt. What are they saying during the first verse?
@custerranch2 жыл бұрын
In Sacred Harp singing, traditionally they run through the song once using the Fa-So-La syllables to get it all together. THEN they sing the actual lyrics. It can sound like a foreign language if you don't know they're really singing the note names.

Hebrews 11:6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Matthew 14:26-31 26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. 27 But straightaway Jesus spoke unto them, saying, Be of good cheer, it is I; be not afraid. 28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? James 1:5-7 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

Cutting to other song leaders singing other songs seemed somewhat disrespectful. Otherwise, the sound quality was awesome, and has become the icon to sacred harp to the normies.
