I’ve been teaching for 8 years and finishing up my 4th year of Middle School. This age is such a sweet age - they’re just coming into themselves and watching their journey to self-discovery and getting to encourage that with Literature is a blessing. I LOVE IT! I'm a senior in high school and have been here since the very beginning of your channel (and live near Lake Mary, lol!). Not gonna lie, I cried watching this video. Being an educator has always been a dream of mine and seeing you live your dream has encouraged me more than you'll ever know. Watching your journey for the past year has been incredible, from seeing how you've taken time for you to how you've been open about your mental health and unbreakable. I also suffer from PTSD and anxiety and have always worried that it would keep me from teaching and pursuing my dream. I am interviewing for a middle school position this Tuesday. I received an offer from this school at the high school level, which was later rescinded as teacher i was replacing decided not to leave. They offered me a middle school position Instead which I declined as I wanted to teach high school. However, within weeks i had a change of heart and found myself looking for middle school positions. I emailed the school with nothing to loose to see if the position was still opened and it is and I’m interviewing again. Best of luck in your new job!

I just wanna say your story has really inspired me and given me a new perspective on teachers. I have always valued the way they chose to care about students bc obviously they don’t have to do that. I am so excited for you! Without having to explain yourself, we know your connection with the highschool age will always be special. I’m so glad you’re making decisions based on your intuition and feelings... who knows what’ll happen in the future? At least those doors will always be open for you. :) I never imagined that I’d ever be working with middle school students but I kind of fell into the position. I learned that, although these kids say and act as they feel in a more unfiltered manner, I truly learned to love how unapologetically fierce they are. My students love anecdotes about highschool, and even the college prep pep talks! That’s definitely something you also have to offer them as a teacher! I wish you so so so much love and not just good luck because we know you’ll be doing wonderfully! We are so glad to have you back!

I just finished my student teaching semester yesterday and should have walked in graduation today. I didn’t feel ready to accept a full time teaching job after my internship finished in May ‘16 so I worked in a daycare a few months. However in November ‘16 I got offered a job and I took it! I’m so glad I got in a couple years of experience before starting my Masters in Jan ‘18 because it made an immense difference in my class work. I felt more confident and what I was learning was more relevant and applicable then ever. My professors even said that my experience always shone through in my papers etc. I got straight A’s in my masters and also got tuition reimbursement thanks to working while doing my masters! Just some advice 😊

There are a lot of really beautiful things about teaching at the middle school level that I will miss dearly. I couldn't imagine leaving middle school for high school (though it's still possible). Anyway, best of luck with your future endeavors inside of the middle school classroom. Contrary to popular belief, middle school is rewarding, fun, and in my biased opinion, are the BEST students to teach, as they are most impressionable.
