Gabby I reckon you would love uni! I'm in my final year at uni doing printmaking (screen printing, Lino printing, woodcuts, etching, etc) and drawing and I have absolutely no regrets studying in a creative area. Personally I don't think I would have succeeded at all if I hadn't gone. The main thing that I've learned is endurance, dedication and technique, which are all integral parts of being an artist. I agree that sometimes people in the creative industry can succeed without uni but I also think they have a higher chance of falling into their comfort zone, staying in the same style and not developing because they don't have access to the same knowledge and resources. Anyway that's just my experience of it, love you gabby!

+ImMatture Also my scent would be, fresh linen because.. I have been known to be so happy with the smell of freshly washed bed sheets i've welled up a bit.. also whenever I am wearing clothing that like captures the smell of the detergent I cannot stop smelling it. Either that or like a herbal essence shampoo because when I had long hair I used to always get like a waft of the shampoo smell when I shook my hair and omg I loved it.

I'm doing and arts degree, and I totally disagree with what you are saying, of course you need a degree when perusing the arts! It's a very competitive industry and in order to compete and move forward we are encouraged to think differently and push the boundaries, and with time in the studio and with lectures the information we get given and advise is invaluable, and we would not even be entitled to that with out a degree !

For instant, to be in a musical the person that gets the part is the most talented one, not necessarily the one with the best degrees. Of course, if you get a degree for something you'll know professional stuff and techniques and all, but take Carrie Hope Fletcher for example, amazing musical actress and singer, and never been to drama school, but that didn't get in her way on playing Eponine for 3 years in the West End :)

I literally felt the same about studying. I've always been a very creative person and after studying boring economics for a semester I've decided now to start like a tailoring apprenticeship and afterwards study fashion design. I guess to be happy with life you just have to do something you love. I'm so looking forward to it, so I definetly understand you Gabbs when you think about university etc. :)

You really seemed to light up when you were talking about your passions regarding Uni, so I really think you should go! Yes, it is expensive, but the life experience and the friends you meet is just so so worth it! I'm nearly finishing my third year in Sociology, god knows what I'm gonna do after, but it is money well spent in my opinion. You could always do an evening interior design course, that's what my sister who already has a degree (in something completely different) has just done, and then build up your own portfolio.

Can I just say you're so right about uni, i did a science degree and it hasn't really got me very far whereas my friends who went straight into work or apprenticeships are way ahead. I loved uni and I think it's worth it if you want to go, but it's definitely not necessary for a lot of careers! All the best if you do go! X

Honestly if you think it will benefit you, uni is one of the best choices you can make! People made fun of me because I didn't go to a single party first year but I also kicked ass in my classes and found people who didn't expect me to party when it wasn't who I am! Going to uni made me realize my passion for studying the human mind and helped me find people who shared that passion! If you put in the effort the profs love you and want to help you succeed, it's just a great opportunity to have so many experts around if you want to extend your knowledge base in a subject they offer 😊
