It’s a big adjustment, its going to take him a while to absorb it. Being able to decompress with time on your hands and little to do, all the things he went through when homeless may come flooding in on him, ptsd is very common after getting housed. Hopefully he has a good VA that will be there for him. He can make it but it may take a while to deal with it all.

This is the stuff people don't understand. So many people look down on homeless people and say "Just get a job". Try getting a job without a mailing address or phone number.
@ThaoNMoua362 ай бұрын
I agree with that? Because me and my husband was homeless. No address to send at? Well we found a outreach for the homeless. We can get mail there. But it's hard with all the struggles out there. It's hard out there on the streets. No! Seriously! I ain't going to lie? That is struggles out of the street. I live in 3 different kind of shelter and it was a struggle there too in the shelter places. But at least I'm still alive and made it through struggle. I know I've been through a lot of struggling, pain, misery, depression and etc etc But I'm happy I have a place now. I live at my apartment for 6 and half months. My husband is in treatment in Teen Challenge and going to be graduated soon. Starting our together being sober couples together. Free at last. I'm 11 months sober and going on my one year or 12 months sober and im living the life of God with God's hand. Amen

I spent 10 years on street missions. I was one paycheque away from being homeless. So, all I could do was offer a cigarette or a McDonald's cheeseburger on occasion. The best part was just listening, and man! Heard some very interesting stories. Best 10 years of my life.

The look on his face while he's sitting on HIS new sofa in HIS new home is like he doesn't believe it's real yet. I am poor and disabled and living off of government housing and donated items from friends and family and when someone donated me a practically brand new sofa, which is the nicest thing I have in my house, I just kept staring at it for about 2 weeks and almost felt weird sitting on it. It didn't feel real, it didn't feel like it was actually mine. My old sofa was torn and broken down. Sagging in the middle and you could feel the wood frame through the worn out cushions. This new one is fluffy and soft yet firm when you sit and actually supports your weight comfortably and it is still an adjustment everytime I sit on it. I had forgotten what not sitting on trash actually felt like. Thank you Nate for everything you do to help these people feel human again. I know the feeling and it's hard to take in at first but eventually we start to feel like we belong in this world again with just the smallest things like a roof over our head and a new (used but new to us) sofa. This man has a whole new life and with his attitude I know he is going to make the best of it.

That is what it's like, too. You're correct .when it happens it takes awhile to get over the Stund ! I signed my lease and I went and parked at marshalls, I ordered a mattress on line, to be shipped. Went in and bought some sheets and house hold items very few, hangers shower things, some detergent ( I was working through my ordeal) I went to the grocery store, gathered some things, checked market place, found a mattress frame. Pulled some cash same day picked it up between marshalls and Mt employer's location. My boss came after work on Monday and helped me move my belongings out of my car, (as my brakes had completely failed) and into the moving van I had picked up, on Thurs or Friday. What I am trying to convey, is the panic sets in and that glorious day I signed, got my keys, and I sorta went into a panic/ anxiety attack for seriously 4.5 days. And without some help you can barely remember to go get food, or feed yourself. I lucked out and had a stackable washer/dryer in my unit. It's difficult to comprehend if you have not had to do it. Hope he thanked his God that night and felt better shortly after. ] Then somehow I just fell apart for 3. I let my housing specialist know in a msg in the middle of the night, and she called, had told me to hang where I was, and then she had a Christian police organization meet me and they had me wait by my car, they carried everything up for me, set the bed frame up. I slept one night on the floor. Then my bed came . Neighbor gave me her sofa, and got a comfy one. I still don't have a working TV but I've been given 3, no antennas and no extra funds for full cable I finally have wifi. It's always nice if someone checks on a person to make sure they got some creature comforts. I wish I had a radio or boom box but I need someone to help me with my car repairs as I was vandalized, a few times and my parking costs $150. Per month in the secured pkng in my building !

And remember the next time you vote: The GOP creates more veterans than the other party and _always_ opposed the increase in funding, without cuts. In addition to letting banks foreclose on serving soldiers during the longest deployments in modern history, Cheney and Rumsfeld went so far as to _charge vets for their body armour_ if they survived the back door draft during Operation Iraqi Oil. Disgraceful that the richest nation on earth treats service people like this yet half the nation praises a draft fighter who attacks Service Members. 🤬👎
