For everyone saying she shouldn't sing this song because she is WHITE: This song is NOT about the black experience , its about learning to love yourself despite having everyone in your life tell you you're worthless. Its about self discovery and empowerment. Which is a subject anyone REGARDLESS of color can relate to. So you keep slayin' it with that mix belt girl

GreggoMyEggo97 though i don’t agree with the premise that race should play a factor in what songs you can or can’t sing. I have been asked why i chose to sing “I Believe In You” from How to Succeed. When i asked why it mattered the director told me “well, you know a black man has never played that role before” and that when i came in he “expected” i would sing something more “soulful”. Unfortunately, race is a huge factor in success or failure in this industry when it shouldn’t be. There aren’t many shows that have been created by black women for black women so if people are a bit territorial over them it’s understandable. I wasn’t impressed by her rendition, not because she’s white, but rather, she doesn’t seem to connect with the message the song relays. She’s trying to sound pretty and show off her ability to riff.

lowkey wish there was more communication between the pianist and the singer, there were some points where the singer tried to add artistic rubato but the pianist didn’t quite seem to follow that. not that the singer alone should lead; it’s a mutual performance, but they almost seem separate.

Y’all need to chill. As a fellow person of color,I see absolutely nothing wrong with this Caucasian woman singing this. A song is a song. There is nothing wrong with her singing this song. And besides, it’s literally about self discovery and being proud of who she is and gaining self confidence and loving herself. You can be white, black, or middle eastern to do that. So lay off her pls. You did amazing. I would love to hear more from you!

BUT HOLY GOD I TAKE IT BACK YOU CAN SING. KEEP SINGING AND WORKING. You're so talented regardless of song choice (which I love). ❤

Wow! First of all your tone is so lovely. All of the lower notes were so rich. I also v much appreciated your use of dynamics especially in the middle. I'm singing this for my spring showcase so I'm definitely going to use you as a reference. One thing I'd say tho is on your belted notes your vowels were extremely wide, but belting like this is hard lol. Props to you girl! You killed it

I would love to do this song for a competition piece, and I’m so terrified to be seen as appropriating culture when the song itself isn’t about race... but I see the side and I respect POC and the fact I will never understand their perspective as a Hispanic. @bbzblessed5 жыл бұрын
You are a talented young lady who can belt out a song. If you feel that you are able to emote well enough to tell the story of Ms Celie, make us believe what you believe through the song, then you know we are right there with you.... along for the ride. Just remember to read the book, Pulitzer Prize winning novel THE COLOR PURPLE by Alice Walker, to know the place you are coming from. The story is about how a woman who finally overcomes her lifelong struggles... her Times of adversity. Although she had a tough life, she survived and AME to inspire others through hardship and pain. So through the hopes and the hardships, she emerged victoriously and found herself... and learned to love herself regardless of her circumstances.

Sounds great.... better than most others who attempt those high notes. I will say work on those vowels with the notes of the song... almost sounds like your reaching to get that highest point "im gonna sing". But over all I love it ... you sound great and your tone/soul is geat also try to start a little softer in the beginning... these goal is from meek to bold. But still good
