That's tricky. I'm not sure that I have one firm definition in mind. As you might expect, I view the word through a Christian lens. So I would define cults in relationship to Christianity. I typically associate the concept of cults with religious secrecy and often with a twisting of religious teachings or an amalgamation of Christian with non-Christian doctrine.
