There’s actually a lot more trustable information on the First Punic War than there is on the second or the third because of the writings of Polybius, a Greek historian lived in Rome the 2nd Century BC. Only the ones on the first fully survived.

The "double siege" (as Drew calls it) was peculiarly Roman thing: Agrigentum (262) and the siege of Alesia (52 BC) versus Vercingetorix's Gauls, with Julius Caesar commanding the Romans. It probably has to do with the Roman propensity for civil and military engineering. Their instinct was, when in doubt, build walls, moats, aqueducts, sewers, roads, heated floors, lead pipes ... If you're besieging a town, wall it in. If a relief force arrives to break your siege, build another wall, but facing outwards. Romans being Romans.

OMG I loved those ones as a child. I would watch every single one of its episodes tens of times, they were really popular in Spain. When I heard they also made a series about american history I SCREAMED. And that's how a Precolonial America Enjoyerᴛᴍ is made in the business :D.

I was just thinking "once upon a time ....life" was well known outside france and somehow "once upon a time..man" was know only in france german and maybe the uk.
