This is very true indeed. I walk the same path as you. I had a childhood friend whom we were both close and grew up poor. However, he became a millionaire and lived in a bungalow. It does feel somewaht similar in a sense that I do feel the envy. However, when i realised I too can achieve the same, i change my path and work towards it. today, i know i am reaching there. Of course in an ideal world we want to be faster if not, the same as our peers. but also take into consideration, nuances like investing in the wrong thing, or other possible unforeseen circumstances that derails one from another. so, there is no point comparing. instead, compare with your ownself and be a better version of yourself each and every day.

Thanks for being open and honest. I myself feel envy on my peers, and even the younger ones like you guys too. I think this is useful and helpful, reminding us not to fall into the downward spiral, and do something silly. Focusing back on myself, taking care of myself, making sure myself better than yesterday.

Thats great of you for sharing, Wei Choon! For those who can relate or still struggling with envy - one of the most effective advices I've had is to turn this envy into INSPIRATION to achieve your dreams. Instead of "Wah, if only I'm like him...", think "Hmmm, maybe I can start making some changes..." We HAVE what it takes to achieve our goals once we let go of all our excuses! But the MOST powerful of them all [like I kid you not, I rarely get envious at all now] is holding on to my faith and keeping Bible verses in mind: John 3:30, Phil 1:21, Rom 8:28, Daniel 3:18, and so on. A friendly reminder that ENVY is one of 7 deadly sins. Lucifer envied God's power so he fell out of heaven, and became Satan of Hell. That's how DEADLY, envy is.

Thank you very much for this message. Incredibly relevant in today's age. Our world is now enlarged that our point of comparison is constantly staring at us. Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn. Its Incredibly difficult to achieve a state of success that we can be contented with, without looking at the next person who has already bested it. I love your takeaway about how life is ultimately a race with oneself, not with others. I believe we are all put on this world as a test.

let me just add. when we compare upwards and are envious of our friends, learn to congratulate them instead because they got what you didnt financially but the truth is that money is out there for all to get. When we compare downwards be appreciative and give or share more. this way we will be happier.

Thanks Weichoon for being vulnerable with us the audience. Important to learn from others, not compare too much (via cherry-picking) and learn to be happy for the success of others. That being said, I hope you got to speak to / make peace with Ruiming in person and got his consent to share this ahead of time. It's not really pleasant discovering that a close friend has been comparing with you and trying to one-up you the whole time. Speaking as someone who has been on both sides of the fence at different points in life and not limited to finance. Cheers and have a great day.

Hey this kinda content is great! And this topic of envy, it's something we can all relate to. I too have felt envy so many times and still constantly feel it now even when I grew my channel to 50k. Hahaha its ridiculous of me to even say this but it is. I still constantly see somebody else in the same field who's higher up, or growing faster than me and then think "Oh shit I'm not growing as fast as them, I suck".but I've found my own ways to snap out of it quicker and manage them over the years. So thank you for giving us a safe avenue to also express similar thoughts. You guys are awesome. I learn so much from all your forms of content.

If it makes you feel better, i am Jealous of Malaysians working here as PR because its a fact they can retire easier or faster than singaporeans with same job, career and has same capabilities. Eg. A malaysian grad first job in sg, get PR later , can basically speaking retire after 20 years working in sg and retire in Malaysia a good life. But a singaporean, i wonder can he say the same in sg? I do not want to say the answer cos all of us think differently. Each of us have our own answers. So, while you are jealous of others, you may not be aware that others are jealous of you. We are all dealth a different set of cards

If you compare (1) a Malaysian work in SG and retire in Malaysia with (2) a Singaporean work in SG and retire in Malaysia Then that's a fair comparison and I think it's achievable. But is that what a Singaporean wants to do? And if Malaysian can work in Malaysia and retire in Malaysia, why do they want to cross the border to work in Singapore? It's almost like jealous of Filipino and Bangladeshi workers who work in SG and "retire comfortably" back in their countries. But do Singaporeans want to go retire in these countries? These foreigners / workers could be looking at Singaporeans and be jealous that they will never get what Singaporeans get simply by lottery of birth. Given a choice, do you want to be born Malaysian and be Singapore PR then retire in Malaysia, or be born Singaporean and be Citizen and retire in Singapore/Malaysia? . No matter the choice though, we don't get to choose where we're born. We may have a choice in where we retire. Look at the options and work towards them (and there will be sacrifices to be made, whatever the choice is).

I think it's mature of of you to identify and recognize the feelings of jealousy. Both you and Rui Ming have different sets of financial goals and I think it's unfair for you to totally compare yourself to him (as you have previously illustrated). Not to sound too much like Dr Peterson, but I think just focusing on improving yourself incrementally would be much more healthier. As we might have heard this quote from Mark Twain, "Comparison is the death of joy." Stay safe and have a good one, Woku Celeryman-san.
