They're one of my faves as well. I always liked this song as it was a hit when bands (Beatles) were trying to make political statements. "Just a singer in a rock 'n roll band". Well said John. Chèers

There were others before them that played live with a symphonic orchestra, long before the Moodies first did. .Deep Purple as early as 1969 and Procol Harum in 1971 are two that immediately come to mind.

I grew up in the 90's listening to the Moody Blues b/c it's what my parents listened to. We had the old VHS of this exact concert and despite being too young to read at the time, I recognized the picture on the VHS case and would replay this song over and over. This is my favorite song from my childhood that shaped my music taste throughout the years. Dynamic, rich, and full of passion for the art that is music.

Ty, this is a recording of a concert in Sept 9,1992 Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Colorado, USA. The video "The Moody Blues - A Night at Red Rocks with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra" is one of the most excellent compilations of their greatest hits. An extra bonus was a second related video released in 1999; "The Other Side of Red Rocks" containing songs played but left off the first video. Also has rehearsal footage, interviews and cool pre-concert audience arrival to the venue.

Worst version ever. They didn't even do the great bass solo after the intro drum solo. As a rock song they completely dropped the ball in this version. Vocals are all flat too. First time I ever critisized them.
@MissAstorDancer5 жыл бұрын
The Moodies are in my Top 10 favorite bands. I've been a huge fan since the release of "Days of Future Past". I saw them in concert on the ground-breaking 1993 tour, where they used local/regional symphony orchestras It was a stunningly great show! Even when I am a huge fan of an artist, I can be very critical of live performances that are not up to par - especially when vocals are weak or off-key. I agree with you, that these performances were not good. Vocals really were poor, so much so that it makes me cringe. It embarrasses me. And I also agree that to leave off the bass solo in the beginning, makes one wonder if he felt he couldn't do it? Even using the orchestra, they could have figured out a way to subtly bring in the orchestra after the intro and first verse.. Anyway, long way to say, I agree they dropped the ball on this one. Thing is that when I saw them with my local orchestra, I would imagine it had to have been the same arrangement for this song. But I sure don't remember the vocals being this poor!
