love Veritas tools myself. Love watching your videos. Keep them coming! One thing to note that on LA spokeshave you can turn that fence upside down and you will be able to use it on sharper inside curves as it will have a slightly shorter and rounder sole. Hope that makes sense

YES!!! I completely missed that filming this, someone in Facebook told me about it! I'm bummed I didn't get to include it but I'm pinning your comment so people see it!

Glad i found your video. I got the LA at an auction. Tgis is my first spokeshave, and it came with no instructions and videos on setup for it are hard to find. I just about threw the thing in the trash because the blade kept falling out when i used it! Now i know it's not just me.

Ya :( I thought about roughing that side of the blade up with sand paper to give it grip but I haven't done it yet cus I rarely use it haha

Thank you Jamie for your comparison! I have the LA and thanks to your video I am now confident that I do not need another Spokeshave 😊. Fiddliness is not such a biggie IMO, considering you only set up the plane once per session. Oh and do yourself a favor and use a small brass hammer for adjusting the mouth (screws halfway tightened). Works fine for me and is not that different to what you would have to do on the Lie-Nielsens btw. Hint: Turn the mouth around (narrow side to the bottom) and you have your spokeshave set up for concave tasks 😊.

For rough stuff I use the Veritas drawknife. Neatly grinded to 20 deg bevel angle, works like a breeze and does not that easily get stuck as the spokeshaves I used to have before the Low Angle Veritas. Just realized, Veritas tools are the best 😊😅❤

Really rough work… Veritas Bench Axe! ❤

Haha I love the progression in these comments. Bust out a little hammer to tap tap spoke shave. Bust out the draw knife to hog off. Bust out the axe to REALLY hog off haha 100% true and accurate!!!! And thank you for the hammer advice idk why I didn't think about that haha

Have you tried the Lie Nielsen Boggs??, it´s supposed to be the ultimate spokeshave, but i seems to me is only for finishing touches (like a smoother).
@BatCaveCreations Жыл бұрын
No I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I have heard it is good!!

Did you tried the plastic shims on the regular angle model? maybe the smaller mouth could help with the tear out?
@BatCaveCreations Жыл бұрын
No! Do they come with shims? I bought this used, I will have to check and see if they are in the box! or call LV lol Thank you!!

If I was going to buy new, I would choose the bottom spoke shave. It most closely matches my Stanley 151 with ease of setup and usage. The top one just seems too fiddly.

I have the standard but now you’re making me think I need to add a low angle to my toolbox

I reccomend one of you plan to use these on end grain, 100× better cus it's basically a chisels since it references on the back of the blade lol

Jamie… of course you’re going to keep both of them…. And when they come out with psychedelic colored models, you will want one of each as well. 🟢🔵🟣🟡🔴
