Always happy to see Oceansize represented! One of my favorite rock bands

It probably won't surprise you to know that Mike Vennart, the frontman of Oceansize, is very much a Cardiacs fanatic. You can hear their influence all over this track in particular. One of their earliest gigs was actually supporting Cardiacs, wherein they covered their song "Eat It Up Worms Hero" (a song where you can CLEARLY see where Oceansize adopted their core style from), you can find it youtube. Vennart is a sensational, absurdly creative musician and songwriter in his own right, and Oceansize are unequivocally one of the most special bands of the 2000's. If you're after more in this vein of this track, I'd highly recommend their song "Build Us a Rocket Then...". Cheers for signal boosting their existence ❤

You reacted to their song Remember Where You Are a long while back, and that's actually what got me into this band. I had Everyone Into Position on repeat a lot earlier this year as well, I just hope they get their other albums back up on Spotify sometime

This whole EP is amazing, especially Paper Champion for me (the song after this one)

This is the first Oceanize song I ever heard and they became my favorite band there and then. Have a look at Vennart's sneak peak for his solo album, it ROCKS.

Oh my, I got so excited seeing this, it's my favourite EP of all time and one of my favourite Oceansize songs. So happy you did this! First of all, when you reacted to EIP album you were asking about Cardiacs influences - here you have it! Compare first riff to the first riff in Cardiacs' "A Horse's Tail". It's a direct inspiration confirmed by Mr. Vennart :) Regarding the lyrics, I would say it's about religious devotion towards a person made to be an idol. So there's this vibe of extasy experienced in praise contrasted with violence of the cult. The title could suggest that this idol is in fact an everyman or even someone quite unworthy, so he's only made to be an idol by this praise, but it's enough to make him so big, that his voice is "like graffiti" and his love is addictive and stimulating like caffeine. I don't know if it's on point, but you can rarely be sure with Oceansize, it's, as you've noticed, quite poetic. The rest of the EP is a bit different in style, for sure it's slower. But it can still get pretty heavy. Paper Champion has ominous vibe with a little electronic beat and weird meter. Then the last three tracks are in fact one longer piece that goes from ambient, very calm intro into slooow build up until it resolves the tension with a monumental riff. It's really a monster of a track and very rewarding experience, especially with so many detail work happening along the way. Highly recommended. If you're looking for something crazy, you can check out "Massive Bereavement" from the first album, or "Sleeping Dogs and Dead Lions" from "Frames" (though this track was meant to be totally absurd, with lyrics serving mostly as emotional expression, not really telling any particular story... but it works). But as it was mentioned by someone else, Frames is probably their best album, and certainly my favourite record of all time. Album reaction for this wouldn't be a waste of time ;) Frames is available on Bandcamp, because the rights to the last two albums came back to the band, and the band really hates Spotify, so they decided not to put it there. Oh, and if you listen to just first track from Frames... it builds up at the end into connection to the second track, so don't be surprised if it stops abruptly ;) But I really recommend not stopping haha :D

Yeah, they're really intriguing - in a very positive way. I'm so glad that they're as popular as they are within the community (including yourself 🙂). A small but really innovative and qualitative band that I, myself, discovered here❤ (And they took inspiration from Cardiacs 😊)

I remember being impressed by the last tracks we heard from them and this track is no different. Such an intriguing mix of genres and styles that even if I can articulate them it wouldn't really convey how original the combination sounds, which is always a sign of band that has their own identifiable sound. Definitely got to nudge them higher on my list of bands to check out.

Rest of the album is so much darker and low-key, but still so good. And I always thought of the ending chord of this song as a "wink".

Aww man, one of my fave Oceansize tracks. Pretty obscure one too! For some more absurd song constructions by them I'd suggest more from this EP or from their final album Self Preserved... Frames is widely regarded as their best all-round album, maybe because the songwriting on it is less chaotic yet still edgy.

Amazing song! ❤ Been way too long since I've listened to this EP. Thanks for the reminder!

It's weird because I think you listen to stuff that's much madder than this but you always seem uniquely wrongfooted by them, I love it! I feel like the Cardiacs influence is more obvious here than on many of their tracks, in the vocal lines for instance, and the ending seems like a nod to "Dirty Boy" in particular. I highly recommend the whole 25 minute EP, obviously, if you want more! Album wise you want Frames!

I'm with you on this one. We checked one album by them on the Album Club and I enjoyed it but was a bit underwhelmed by it. This I really enjoyed enough to feel like checking out at least the EP. This felt closer (in spirit, not really in sound) to something BTBAM or TDH would write, and I love that kind of eclectic, unpredictable approach to writing. I even enjoyed the post-hardcore and early 2000s heavier end of alt-rock influences, which are things I don't always gel with, but here they fit their purpose and actually make the song stronger for it.

I think the song goes about the creation of a deity, shaped at our wish. We hear a preaching and we now believe in that god, fullfilling our desires.
@ExcedereInInfinitum8 ай бұрын
The title "One Out of None" refers that he was built out of nothing. "It's turning out the way you planned It your thoughts command" Yeah, it's all in our minds, the god we created is a delusion. "It just like you" Genesis 1:27: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” I am atheist so i can relate to this song.
