Extremely smart move for you to do general practice for the first year or two. It really keeps your skills up and improving. I was a nurse for 40 years an did med/surge for the first year and a half before moving on to specializing in OB. It was definitely worth it because even when you do specialize you will find that you will still need those skills you learned in the past. Good luck and Be Blessed!!!!!

Hello from Australia ......I'm a few hours from Bendigo, is a nice expanding country town with a big horse community. It can be very cold but will become warmer as summer arrives, you will love it!

Hope you enjoy your stay in our corner of the world. I do recommend that you download the vic emergency app, as your stoping down here through the fire season. And if you road tip it to the beach over summer check with the locals before you take a swim lots of rips, snags and jelly fish sometimes sharks haha. Keep an eye out driving on dusk Dawn and night Roos and wombat come out of nowhere. Stay safe happy travels

Giiirrrrlll! Out of all the states you could go to, Victoria is the worst atm. Stage 4 lockdown, people aren't allowed to travel further than 5 km from their homes, and they're only allowed to go out for groceries, pharmacy, essential work and the hospital. You should have applied to sunny WA. We have 0 active cases in the community. Good luck on your endeavours.

YES! Bendigo is a beautiful town and Victoria is wonderful state, just not so lovely at the moment with a second wave of COVID in Melbourne. You will have a fantastic time. Once the borders re-open be sure to come across to my state of South Australia. I could take you swimming with sea lions.

Essay warning! Aussie/Canadian here, married to an Englishman, but I live in Aus. Bendigo is nice! My aunt used to live there, a small city but everything you need. Lovely farm land around there... when it gets rain... It's funny you picked the one state that's having a covid problem, other places are having cases in the single digits. I hope you'll be able to fly into Melbourne ok (pronounced Mel-bin by locals), it's getting worse and worse down there. I live in Canberra, so a good 7hr drive from Bendigo. I don't think you'll have trouble finding a horse to loan/lease/ride when you're down there. I went through my husband emigrating here... You could keep your Irish bank account for short term but I suggest getting an Aus bank account soon for ease of renting houses, being paid etc. So much easier. It's going to be so exciting for you. I travelled&worked extensively when I was 18/19 (inc Ireland!) and it was the best time in my life. Try to enjoy and remember every second. 😁 Sorry for the essay!
