Everyone says "do your research" and when I did mine, I knew without a shadow of doubt that SL was a mean girls club with the exception of a few kind people. I did not want to be a part, so despite going through a couple sets before finding locs that are just right for me...I'd rather do my own locs any day. A community is nice to be apart of but not necessary for me. Locs and almost all maintenance techniques have been around since the tribes of Africa, wtbs do you darling. Make a living...have no apologies or regrets. Many blessings!!!

I think i’ll just enjoy my freedom to do what i want to MY hair and “traditional” locs without worrying about bring sued for infringement. Or that my hair wont be considered sisterlocs anymore after spending 1000’s on install and retightening sessions. Thank God i recognized this early and removed my starter sisterlocks after the first retightening session w/ my consultant years ago. I have TRUE hair freedom now. You know what. i went to class in NOV 2021 and I need more help after taking the class. i have been researching for a long time till I saw someone have your tool that had lines. It is defiantly an investment. Some of the people are very helpful and there is so much freedom in wearing your locs. I did my own and I save money because I retighten my own as well, that could be an option for you. That way you can still embrace this journey but not get so caught up with all the other things. Don’t stop it is enough money out here for everyone. Sisterlock technicians are overwhelmed and not enough to do it. I paid a lot. I was messed up by a “certified sister lock technician”. So I agree with you. Exactly no one can take away what you know. Don’t stop get your paper. Because now that the Supreme Court Justice is rocking small locs. Oh my God! This is the most liberating video I could have ever watched! I had sisterlocks by a sort of trainee, off the list too coz never got fully licensed as one, could not keep up the expense. Charged me through the nose, I was very upset by that after I started learning more. I quickly taught myself how to so I would not continue shelling money for some stupid brand. Thanks to KZbin University, that brand will not be around long! When will you have a self retightening class? I am interested in one of those - still struggling to do the back of my head. Thank you for sharing this. I have a question, I have sisterlocks but in my area I have to drive an hour to get to the nearest consultant and that's fine. I start a new job and attendance is required to be 100% while in training for the 1st 3 months. My consultants have no weekend appts to accommodate my need. Could I have them retired by a microloc consultant who also interlock reties?

I think if you searched the KZbin, you can find 3pt and 4pt rotations. It isn't hard once you get a good rhythm on your head. Once my microlocs mature, I will be doing them myself. IDK if you are hung up on the name, title and brand, I wish you the best of finding someone to service your hair. Good luck...you will find someone.

Yes you can I just say be careful. Ask tons of questions. See their work. Know your pattern. Take pictures of your grid. And if she doesn't ask you questions like what pattern do you use, when your last retightening was and others to get to know your hair then she may not be the one for you.

Yeah, I do not like the terrible website. It is incredibly hard to find a sisterlocks loctician. Half of the people registered on the site no longer do them or want to be affiliated with the brand anymore. I just got my first consultation yesterday from an older woman who was certified, and I am concerned. I asked a lot of questions based on videos and things I've read from sisterlock locticians, people with sisterlocks, and it concerned me that she didn't know some things. Also, I fear that she may be a bit lazy when it comes to install. I have fine hair, and I learned that small is supposed to be used for low hair density. She choose the absolutelybworst location to do my test locks (most thin and looser textured compared to the rest of my head). She said she was considering medium to large. I asked what the different sizes meant and what I should know about them. Also made it clear that I wanted small. She let me know it would take much longer and that she thinks she will do large in the back and small up front... She could not answer why one would do each size. She also complained about the length of my hair (8 inches according to her measurements). She is definately sweet, but I am fearful that she may be a loctician that isn't good. Also, she claims to have been doing it for 10 years, BUT had ZERO pictures of her work. She had 1 picture of 3 rows she had done on one client. Am I being paranoid for not trusting her and looking elsewhere? ***Also, I distinctly remember another woman talking about wetting the hair as she twisted. She did NOT, and all I could hear was my hair squeaking and pulling (it hurt) as she tied my hair. Is this normal?

Oh I'm hoping you have not gotten your hair done yet. If you are not comfortable with your loctician then I always say wait. You have to have a bond with the person doing your hair, this is a commitment and you want a good relationship. As for low density hair, depending on how low small locs may not be the best. Think of it like this, you have a square base and you have 10 strands of hair holding on to your loc, that over time will get longer and the weight of the loc will break the hair strands, you would want to have at least 20 strands of hair to hold on to that weight. Depending on the different textures of your hair it may have been the best to put the test locs in the area with the least density and texture so you both can see what would be to be loc'd, I would also suggest to do a few in another area to get a true picture. As for water that can help but it can also hinder, water allows our hair to be pliable and when it dries it shrinks which will cause the loc to be tighter at the base then what it should be. There is a product that I like using for clients who may not have a lot of texture to their hair called Loxxset, maybe try this. I hope I was able to help a bit if it is not too late.

I don't see why people telling others not to sister loc...and how expensive it Is...I think micro is more trouble some than they are telling

It’s literally the same thing…Interlocking the hair on itself. It’s just the SL uses a certain tool. A grid is a grid is a grid.

Agreed with Cybil, There are just guidelines that SL has and you have to start only one way. the technique of interlocking is the same.

Wtf…why do you need a title to do a hairstyle that’s been around for centuries…I don’t get this “brand” stuff? I’m just here browsing KZbin, I don’t know much about it, but it is very shocking what I’m learning about this “sister loc” community. Not to mention I don’t like them and how they look…at all. I just want to say thank you for keeping it real and 100 with everyone. I will be going on this new journey very soon basically in the next 48hrs. I have done mu research and found a great consultant so I am not worried just very excited. I have also found that the sisterloc community can be very mean and harsh to people that they deem are not apart of their community. I plan to not join the social media or anything of that nature when it comes to my sisterlocs once I get them. I love me for who I am and I plan to keep it that way. So thank you for the heads up and thank you for all that you do.
