I was once booked on an economy class (USA: coach?) flight from Gothenburg to London. It was an early morning flight on Ascension Day = public holiday in Sweden/business day in England. I was asked if I'd give up my seat, presumably for a full-fare paying business traveller. I was in no hurry to get to London and so I asked what was in it for me. I was refunded most of the fare I'd paid and then flown business class to Brussels where I had to wait an hour or two in the luxurious business lounge before being flown to England. It was great.

I flew to Jamaica on US Airways. On the way back they overbooked every plane flying out. Everyone that volunteered to give up their seat got a free overnight stay at the Hilton, all-inclusive. I met people that had been sticking around for weeks. Get up, go to the airport, volunteer to stick around again, go back to the hotel and hit the beach. I promised myself that I would never fly any other airline to Jamaica.

@@injunsun if you know you won’t fit in a middle seat comfortably without impacting others comfort the considerate thing is to forwarn the airline and possibly book 2 seats. The inconsiderate thing is to barge on the plane and demand an aisle seat from someone who may have booked that for a very good reason. I once had to travel with an UTI. It was purgatory even with an aisle seat, that I had precooked.

I've had this happen. My seat wasn't available. They had empty seats, but they were upgraded seats, so they didn't want to give one to me. They made me wait until the last second, telling me I might be bumped to another plane, instead of just giving me the available empty seat. After everyone else was boarded, they finally let me have one of the empty seats. I swear, airlines are not motivated to retain customers, because they know they don't really have any competition.

No kidding. 6-7 hours from Europe is my limit. I did that once, took time to get back to my friend's place in NY. The color of my urine told me it was not a good idea . Never again.

It really depends on how much you drink-and that includes lots of water for hydration. Why subject yourself to discomfort for the comfort of the other passengers?

I feel like Trevor got wrapped up into saving the armrests for himself and didn’t want to sit up all the way 😆

I'm stupidly straight, but I can still man-crush hard on my boy Noah. Sure, he's cute, but he's devilishly smart & emotionally intelligent & what about that isn't attractive to a fairly healthy person?

Friend crushes are a thing. As a middle aged gay man, I frequently develop them towards guys I could/would never actually try to date if I was single.

Yes, Trevor! I totally feel you. By chance, I'm having this lesson now. I too resent it when I'm not informed for my consent to any change. But I'm starting to realise this is what they mean by ego. It's not the brash kind but it's still related...like the song goes, "you can't always get what you want". I'm trying to be stoic about it now.
