I think the guy went with Beast Boy because of his nature rather than his powers. Most iterations of BB are pretty chill, they don't really go ham unless you REALLY push him. Robins are usually pretty serious and won't hesitate to mess you up if you cross them, especially when it comes to Jason or Damien. It's the same reason why people would rather deal with the super-powered, nigh indestructible, boy scout Kryptonian than the regular guy in a black suit that won't hesitate to break several of your bones if it means getting to the big bad.

The Green is the power source of Swamp-Thing and the Parliament of Trees. Their role is to protect plant life and nature. Aquaman has sometimes used it’s power to become stronger. It’s implied all waterkinesis, the ability to control water on Earth, comes from The Clear, so characters like Mera, Aquaman’s wife, have that connection. The Red is the force that comes from animals and focuses on protecting them alongside nature, so they’re friends with The Green. This is where Animal Man and Bwana-Beast get their powers. Beast Boy got his abilities from either a meta human gene or genetic experiments done to him, but during the New 52 he tapped into The Red and was given a power boost. He was also red instead of green for a while. There’s The Rot, which is based on death and decomposition, and they’re the enemy of all the other forces/entities. There’s one for machines, stories and so on.
