lol. Indeed. We had chances in the last game to pass to Saka when he was only marked by one player and it that tightly.. with space to turn and run at the defence…. But we opted not to.. to pass backwards.. as if we would find an actual opening after passing it around the back lots… we have no ability to create openings… Gareth should have been screaming at the full back / midfielder to make that pass to Saka.. After passing it backwards we didn’t know what to do and eventually, 10 seconds later ended up giving it to Saka in a way worse position more tightly marked..

We looked wide open against Iceland with Foden in the 10 and Mainoo/Rice operating behind him. Gordon would play in the system you mention; he played against Iceland in that experiment also. The only real difference is Saka would be involved over Palmer from the Iceland game and that would stretch the game and offer more movement around Foden. I’m not so sure the dream team style approach that gets everyone excited would work. I actually think Foden and Kane simply struggle to play with one another, they want to operate in similar spaces and Foden is often looking for runs in areas Kane doesn’t take up; equally, Kane is looking for runners in behind and Foden seems unwilling to make those runs. The best international teams often sacrifice one or two big names for balance and I think there’s a real argument that we’re in that position. I think each game is different and there are times when a real aggressive attacking approach may be the way to go, but there are definitely other occasions when the right option will be Gallagher to initiate the press, or Mainoo to receive the ball deeper and move through the lines with control/without making the game too stretched. If TAA gets another opportunity then it’s vital Gordon and/or Watkins play; he needs that movement to be effective.

His point about Philips is correct imo. If you check out fourfourtwo’s analysis, he broadly agrees too. It’s less about Philips specifically and more that we as England have rarely produced a world class deep lying number 6. Rice is not that player, he’s more of an 8. Arsenal’s struggles this season, that run of a few games, coincided with him being played in a number 6 role. He’s not used to receiving the ball on the half turn and making progressive passes. Philips was a more natural number 6 and Southgate reaching for his name does highlight the lack of players who can play that role which is so pivotal, especially for international football.

“The external isn’t going to help us.” Spot on. Block out the noise - any opinions, tactical analysis from pundits etc. only serves to confuse the staff and unsettle the players. Block it all out, stay off the internet, stick together in the camp and trust each other. I hope that’s what the squad are doing, because it gives us the best chance of playing our best football.

So keep playing Trent at Midfield? Not spot on. Never listening to criticism results in never improving
@WannabePlayer187 ай бұрын
@@superguyx5468 criticism from ex-players and armchair supporters will get us nowhere. Tactical analysis from teams of staff who know the players inside out and know their physical situation makes much more sense and causes less confusion within the group. Gallagher will play tomorrow to initiate a press and allow Bellingham and Foden to also press higher and with more intensity. It will also alleviate some of the pressure on Kane to press, because he isn’t able to do so. Trent has struggled because of what’s around him, to be effective he needs movement in behind - Kane and Foden have failed to offer that. Foden will get higher up the pitch if we press higher, so the staff will look to trigger that press before they look to drop Foden. Trent will be dropped tomorrow as a result and he’s unfortunate; he would’ve had more joy with Gordon making runs in behind or even Watkins etc. Everything I’ve said there is fairly basic and is the type of discussion that will be happening behind the scenes; there won’t be “were useless, what’s going on lads? Where’s the desire? Why are we sitting in at 1-0 up?” style conversations like there are in the media. The reason being? They serve to help no one and they offer no real tactical answers.

Southgate knows more than Klopp - Trent is a DM, everyone knows it except for Jurgen
@kd59737 ай бұрын
Thing is, he didn’t even play Trent as a DM in the warm up matches (when he did well). He played as an 8 and then all of a sudden, he just decided in game one to throw him into a double pivot, a role he’s never played before. Makes no sense. Highlights all his faults and completely cuts off anything he’s good at.

A proper and robust interviewer who asked the questions that we all want asking was not allowed anywhere near Southgate. It’s all too safe and predictable. Gareth , you don’t need two holding midfielders ! Trust Rice and Bellingham and let Foden do his thing at number 10 ! No other nation would shove Foden on the left , not have a fit left back , and play such horribly passive football after scoring a goal. The interviewer was too nice and did not represent the nations concerns. If Southgate is telling the truth and he really hasn’t read or heard the criticism , then after this interview , he still has no idea what all the fuss is about.

Stevie wonder can see the left side of the team isn't working and is unbalanced! Everybody knows foden doesn't like playing out wide yet Gareth being so stubborn will continue to play him there even though it's clearly not working. Kane has no movement at all and offers nothing, no moving defenders, no game interaction, no running in behind, no running the flanks, yet he will keep his shirt because his face and name fit, he should be dropped and come on for the last 20 mins. Id hate to be one of the "none popular" players as you'll never get a chance. Gareth has no bottle and doesn't make game winning substitutions, he hasn't a clue what he is doing!! I honestly do pity the next team he goes on to manage. England should be moving heaven and earth to get somebody like Jugen Klopp as the next manager, a real world class manager not stick with this stubborn , average, defensive minded halfwit. When England get knocked out let's see his excuses then as he has so much talent yet he doesn't play them ? I honestly can't wait until he pisses off!! Man for man England's team maybe the best at the Euros yet under Gareth we're playing as bad as 100ranked team. Southgate out!!!!!!
