I've noticed a trend in Clara's other pick me videos of other girls being worried they are like pick me's because they are kind of similar to the girls that Clara are portraying. For any girls who may be concerned: Not wearing makeup doesn't make you a pick me. Not wearing dresses and not being like "other girls" is not necessarily a pick me thing either. The term "not like other girls" is just often said by pick me's. (There is PLENTY of girls who don't wear makeup or dressup. I'm one of them and I know many of them aswell.) What makes someone a pick me is the fact that they put other women down, often in an attempt to get a man's attention. Pick me's come in all shapes and sizes, but what makes them a pick me is putting down other women (again, normally in an attempt to look more favorable to guys). Nothing else. So don't worry.

The term "pick me" has really been turned onto its head these past few years. Although, this KZbinr seems to have grasped its original meaning, now suddenly any perceived heteronormative woman who isn't hyper-feminine is considered "pick me". I'm gay. I love women (how could you not), but because my interests appear to be what is perceived as "masculine", and thus align with heteronormative men, I've been called a "pick me" before. I can't seem to make female friends. And any time I had any they were very into drama. I also have to be very careful around my female family members. i definitely went through that phase. i was a goth kid who hated pink and shopping and girly things. and i hated girly girls, girls who were really feminine. it wasn't until i got older and wiser that i realized i didn't actually hate those girls at all. what i really hated was the narrow little boxes society tries to force women into and the stereotypical idea of what women can and should be. i didn't hate girly girls. i hated that society made me feel like an outcast just because i WASNT a girly girl and i didn't like girly things. i think a lot of women go through this phase when they're younger, and it's because they don't understand yet that other girls aren't the problem. society is, and the way society treats women and devalues them is.

Everyone needs to understand the difference between a real tomboy and a pickme because honestly when someone says "oh I'm a tomboy/tomgirl" doesn't always mean they're a pick me, it just matters of how much they brag about it or they say in a way. I have a permanent fear of being categorized as a "pick me" because I don't use any kind of products that more or less change your physiological appearance. Even my outfit doesn't help much because it's usually unisex casual. It's sad how such simple things can be misunderstood, but at least I encourage myself knowing that femininity is not a fixed concept, but exists in many ways, each in their own way.

Don’t worry, I doubt that anyone sees you as “pick me” just by the way you look. Mostly “pick me” girls can be detected by their behaviour. They have these weird stereotypes they labelled all girls out there with. Aka “girls always wear makeup and skirts”. So when they do the opposite, they feel “unique” even though it is a common thing, millions of women out there wear pants and don’t use makeup. Honestly, it is even sad because of the limits they put themselves in just so they won’t “look like others” instead of looking that way simply because they like it. I feel like the core of the problem doesn’t come from good self-esteem, but from the need to feel somewhat unique and important, from the need to explain why they feel like they are unable to fit in. What I mean is, as long as you look the way you do because you like it, because you are comfortable with it, it will show through the way you act. And people won’t mistake you for a “pick me”.

Honestly, the surest way to not look like everyone else is to simply be yourself, because you are unique and no one is exactly like you. Pick me girls live in an illusion, the world is not at all as they see it, they end up just like all the other pick mes. I dress and act exactly how I feel, how I feel comfortable.
