I hope labour stays centre and that forces the tories to be come crawling back to the centre as well. Labour have spent 32 years out of the last 45 in opposition and there has been a reason for that. All I hear is what the Tories have done or failed at. But not enough if Labour can change history and becomes a regular party of government. Much will depend if they can stay on the centre any movement to the left could repeat history. Labour and The Tories are still moderate centre ground and with the first past the post system you won't find the UK repeating recent parliamentary events in Europe. What Labour considered to the right of politics that brought down the government are issues they will have to address to succeed. It' won't be a parodise, As a Tory voter I would not mind them being successful if to the benefit of the country and Labour becoming more modern

@@StuartRussell-ul5rx One of the main reasons for that is the right wing press used to have a huge amount of influence on how a significant section of the electorate voted but that has changed now because of the declining newspaper sales. Even now a Tory leader will never get the same kind of scrutiny as a Labour one. Another reason is that the left wing vote has been split primarily between Labour, the Lib Dems and the Nationalist parties whereas the Tories have been able to consolidate the right wing vote more effectively. It was harder to know how to vote tactically in a seat to get the Tories out but these days you have websites like stopthetories that tell you which candidate is best placed to remove a conservative from office. What I would like to see happen if for the press to be held to the same standards as the TV news media and no longer to be what amounts to propaganda platforms. I would also like to see electoral reform. If both of those things were to take place Britain would be a very different place.

I feel slightly bad about how much I enjoyed Patten losing his seat in 1992. Genuinely terrifying how political figures like him and Heseltine who once seemed monstrous now seem relatively reasonable. Patten's overriding loyalty has always been to the Treaty of Rome. Ode To Joy is his national anthem, the wreath of stars his national flag. Events of recent weeks have confirmed my opinion that the party political system is wholly inconsistent with the fundamental principles of democratic representation. What does an ambitious politician with one eye on a cabinet post do if their PM wants a new airport in their consistency but 98% of their electorate don't? What is labour's model and formulation of overall economic strategy? Macroeconomics and Microeconomics intermeshing of variables affects one another. If labour borrows more for infrastructure projects they will push up interest rates, and if they don't they will be increasing taxation or slashing expenditure, which might reduce growth. On the Microeconomics side, reforming the Industrial Policy, Industrial Relations, Health Economics Policy, Retirement Policy for old age savers, housing policy for homeless people, apprenticeships and skill development related training programs for the youth and other segments of the society, and a skills adjusted income policy for those working in the public sector such as the NHS, etc. will have their own dynamics for the Macroeconomic foundations.
