It is the sign of a good song when you can strip it down to its minimum, and it still has all of the emotion, and greatness of the original.

This version is simply amazing, I wish Ric would make an acoustic album with all the great cuts the Cars did. A big thanks to who posted this up. Ric Ocasek is one of my personal favorites.

Yes I am guilty of playing his music over and over until I got sick of it and then all this time later and I am doing it again.After he died I have gone over it all again and I now can see why I loved them from the start of it all.I was a teenager when they first came out and now at 58 I love the music just as much.

So beautiful, there is an innocent anguish in the layers of his voice. More perfect voices don't hit the same heartstrings. Almost like Winnie the Pooh's voice 🤗

The test of a great song, one singer, one acoustic guitar, if the song still captivates it's not all hooks / bells and whistles, but a truly great tune.

Back in the early 70's when Ric and Ben were doing two man shows with just an accoustic guitar and bass, I can imagine they did just this scenario more than once, and possibly with this song too.

Listen to this Talent! He didn’t even need a band. Amazing! Thanks Ric! You will be missed and remembered! This is painful for me since I’ve been a Fan since 1978! I grew up on the Cars and the Police! Even though your gone now your Music will live on! RIP Ric and Ben-Two Great Singers! Maybe your Reunited up there in Heaven now! That would be Nice. 🔥💥🎸😎

the studio recording of this with the keyboard stuff with Greg Hawkes was pure mesmerizing and utterly melancholic & prefer this better with Drive , but this acoustic version done by Ric, brings it more closer to intimate and deeper somber mood and ambient to it....thank you for the music sir...will surely miss you.

I have always loved this song, and this acoustic version is so beautiful I just saw The Cars in Boston. Ocasek has a beautiful voice, different from Benjamin Orr's voice. Still, my favorite band because they were different and had great diversity in their songs.

Some songs really demonstrate how great they are when played with just one guitar or solo on a piano.

Holy smokes! I am a HUGE Cars fan, and I really like their sound. I generally prefer the produced, electronic style, but this is really good. Ocasek does an excellent job with just a guitar and a bass line.

>Ocasek has a beautiful voice - I agree, but it took him all the way up 'til the Shake It Up album (from which comes this song) before he really hit his stride. For the first three albums, he had this *affectation*, a sort-of "bratty" tone. Then came Shake It Up, and from "Since You're Gone" to "Maybe Baby", he sang with much more heart, and a sort of purity emerged. He sang "I'm Not The One" especially beautiful, and "Why Can't I Have You" from Heartbeat City is another good example.

Many people don’t know that both Ocasek and Ben Orr began as a folk singing duo in the 60’s. They (and their songs) were repackaged as quirky, New Wave with the help of a new band and PRESTO...The Cars were born!
@newwavepop5 жыл бұрын
is there more to this, is this taken from something? i would love to hear an entire set of Ric doing songs like this. i always love this stuff because you get to hear what the song actually sounded like when Ric first presented it to the band, and then you get to see what the other guys added to it and made it the great song we all know and love.
