perfectly normal ELDER sibling reaction. the eldest siblings (not always) normally gets upset. a quick look it was easy to find ones of elder girls getting upset. its more to do with the lack of attention from there parents which comes with a new kid. also little boys and girls dont like each other, so the thought of another sister for a brother is upsetting and visa versa.

Cute McBeauty I'm a little disappointed in the mother. The boy obviously is feeling something about the news and when he's asked, he seems to be uncomfortable to talk about it so he shrugs his shoulders, only to be told "oh typical guy response". I hope for the sake of the boy and the family in general that they had a 1-on-1 with him and talked to him about it. News like that can take a lot to process for some kids

I understand they're trying to have a happy, playful approach, but they are not considering the boy's reaction at all; by disregarding it as a "typical guy reaction" they are not only encouraging a stereotype, they're taking away any importance to what he really feels and that can reallty make the kid feel REALLY left out of the loop; he's obviously at odds with the news. And that kind of resentment can sometimes linger for a long time, sometimes even into adulthood. Like you, I hope they pow-wowed with him privately afterwards to give him a chance to completely express what he feels, so they can take a different approach and have a healthy process of acceptance.
