Glenn is the only person in consumer society to have never seen the immortal statement ‘BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED’
@travisspaulding2222 Жыл бұрын
The guy known for chastising guitarists for not being prepared in the studio wasn't prepared in the studio, lol. I don't understand guitarists who complain about things like setups and batteries on new guitars. The first thing i do when I buy a new guitar is put my strings on it, set it up to my tuning, and take that cheap piece of shit battery out of it that's been sitting in there for god knows how long and replace it with a brand new battery. The last thing I want is my new guitar to cut out on stage or while recording because I was too cheap to put a new battery in it, lol. All of my guitars are passive now anyways, but when I did use active pickups, I would always immediately replace the battery.
@getshwiftygaming447 Жыл бұрын
That's for 1% of all products, almost every single product requiring a battery supplies the damn battery. I can list more products that include a battery than you can list products that don't.

@@travisspaulding2222I'll explain the very easy concept, if I'm paying $800+ for a guitar that needs a battery to function I better get a fucking battery because I paid nearly a grand and you sent me a product that wasn't functional without a necessary component you neglected to give me and did i mention I already spent nearly a grand on the guitar for it to not function? @Patrick-857 Жыл бұрын
It's likely it's not an issue for many countries, but it's a massive pain for a company to deal with all the different laws in different jurisdictions, so usually companies try to find a one size fits all solution. Something as simple as a 9v battery could quite significantly increase overheads, plus customer confusion with some getting batteries and some not. Plus it's a big potential area for mistakes to happen, like guitars accidentally being shipped with batteries to jurisdictions that require extra paperwork ect, potentially causing holdups with Customs. What electric guitar player doesn't have a supply of batteries? I mean really.

Yeah it's not like it was a mistake, they were up front about it. Honestly Glen is being really precious here and his audience doesn't seem to be on his side here. Also come on, We are all fans of Ola here, and I can't think of a single instance of Ola tearing anyone down or being in any way dishonest. He's always conducted himself with integrity as far as I can tell. Glen is OK, I've been watching him since the beginning, but he sometimes gets it wrong and doubles down. Over the years I think he's definitely hurt his credibility on a number of occasions, and his thing he does was funny back in the day when his videos of him shitting on bass players first got featured on Ultimate Guitar, but it gets old. He shits on his audience pretty often, shits on gear like the Line6 Spider, which is entry level stuff that helps young kids get into guitar and find different sounds so they can better choose the gear that suits them when they upgrade. That's snobbery in my opinion. Ola is the opposite of a snob, he constantly shows you can get a good sound with almost any gear. Same with shitting on the "Red Bean" which was cool to do back then, now that it's legacy gear, people are recognising it for how innovative it actually was, and actually there's a pretty big time session player who used it extensively in the studio. Gear snobs aren't cool. Many of our favourite albums were recorded with crap gear because that's all the band could afford, and they made everyone want to buy that gear. It's just dumb, and unnecessarily negative.

Glenn, the no battery situation is a SHIPPING issue. You need a ton more admin and paperwork if the unit crosses country border, those ce stickers, etc if the guitar enters the EU, and so on. And when you're a manufacturer you don't want to do different things for different markets, so the battery is left out. Expect it with many more products in the future
@Patrick-857 Жыл бұрын
This.
@Zzyyxx22 Жыл бұрын
I work in the shipping industry. You can ship batteries IN a product with only a sticker (UN 3481 which must have red hatching). This allows up to a maximum of two batteries. This is a problem when people try to ship EarPods. They have a battery in each ear and one in the charger so can’t be shipped under normal circumstances. You can’t ship a battery that’s loose. So someone would have to fit the battery prior to shipping. It’s maybe that they don’t want to store the guitars with the battery connected. I don’t know at what point QC takes place. If it’s at the time of shipping or when they first arrive in the depot or even when they leave the factory.

Heheheeh, cooome ooon - batteries become dangerous in like - what - 6 to 8 months after expiration date? Or even 8 to 12... And: it's from EU to Canada (I guess...): so it's even less problems

@@workhorse_fx I guess you haven't seen the vids of brand new electric cars catching fire? Some instances where this has happened on massive ships. Trouble is, once one vehicle is burning it ignites neighbouring vehicles and then the whole ship gets sunk. Also look up Luton Airport car park fire, a hybrid car battery went up in flames, igniting its neighbours... the whole multi-story car park went up in flames. Battery fires are dangerous and don't need no oxygen because the fire chemically makes its own oxygen. This can also happen with smaller batteries

As many people have mentioned sometimes shipping batteries is not permitted depending on customs/exporting etc. While your point is valid this has been noted on the Solar site and should not be penalized for it. Otherwise great review and guitar.
@multimike2030 Жыл бұрын
Glenn I think you still should reconsider your position on the battery thing, the website does state 9v battery not included. I have guitars with active pickups that did include the battery when shipped to me, but it was within North American Continent. In my limited Google search, shipping devices with batteries carries a lot of risk and danger that carriers like DHL may just refuse to ship. Since Solar Guitars would come from Spain, I would imagine it's a lot of hassle for them to try to ensure the shipments aren't denied, so just shipping active pickup guitars without the battery is way less strain for them. Just my thought from an amateur musician.

Going down a half step with the same string gauge is about 30 minutes. Start by turning the screws on the claw that holds the springs counter clockwise a half turn, then retune, and repeat until the bridge is where it should be and the guitar is tuned to pitch. It usually takes me no more than a half turn then 2-3 8th turns on the screws. Adjusting the intonation is not needed.

So many epic face melting albums were recorded with 6 strings and in standard E tuning. While 7 and eight strings are badass, they reek havok in the low end with mixes. You end up cutting a lot of that information out to make room for bass and kick. I remember hearing Korn for the 1st time when they released Blind and was utterly blown away by the lows. Up until then, I associated the 7 string with jazz guitarists and utillizing counter-melody. It's amazing to see/hear how far it has come in just 30 yrs concerning metal. That said, I still prefer the metal made with 6 strings and standard E tuning. Death, At the Gates, In Flames all seem to do fine by it, so if it pleases the metal gods, it's good by me. Thanx Glenn.

The different voices are: 1. a hot active pickup (with the knob pushed in), and 2. a more classic hot passive pickup, à la JB or Super Distortion (knob pushed out) Voicing one has a definite upper-midrange bump, kind of like a built in tube screamer, and sounds best with a modern high gain amp. Voicing 2 is darker without the midrange bump, and sounds best with a more classic crunchy amp pushed with an overdrive pedal :)

I mean to say that 6 string guitars have more memorable riffs, than 7s isn’t exactly a fair comparison. because 6 strings have been around way longer.!We started getting 7s available when… the late 90s? So for guitar players to finally be able to get them and write with them, it’s just now in the last 10 years available as much as 6s. your now finally now seeing more and more players using them. I know this comment isn’t about the guitar in the vid, but we have to be fair when you make that statement. Ya you might only be able to count memorable 7 string riffs on one hand, but some of them are riffs that changed music! I mean Steve vai did it, but when korn came out, it was like nirvana all over again. It changed music. And changed guitar building. 6 strings are fun, but in my opinion, when I went to 7 string, it made me a better player! It made guitar exciting again! And I wrote songs like crazy! Sorry about this rant. 😂 just had to voice my opinion on that. I’d love to see you go back to 7s now that you’ve become a better player. Might trigger songs that you yourself can put out! Below is one of the songs I wrote on 7, cause I know you like to see people prove their statements.

Thanks for the update Glenn. Do you think it's possible they can't ship it with a battery due to import restrictions? Although I wouldn't see why considering my PRS HB2, EC-1000 and my Epiphone Matt Heafy all came with a 9volt battery and they are imports.

I like the guitar sound you got for this one. Very roomy sounding.

Looking at this and the previous video's thumbnails side by side is a delight. Sick looking guitar, I'll be checking to see if they have a non-Fishman version.

"I'm profoundly disappointed with solar" Next day: "I'm profoundly impressed with solar".... Glen, you can jerk our emotions around like this!

Hey Glenn - Why do I never hear Canadian "metal" classic Helix - Rock you as one of your demo songs? Food for thought.

The vinter series with fishmans says "note does not ship with 9v battery" i'd say that goes with all the active models. Nah, you're right, some f*cknuckle forgot. 🤦♂️

You being a Canadian I am surprised you haven't seen the kill switch on the Epi Jeff Waters V. That thing came out many years ago.

guitar looks sick! When are you going to do a session / Demo / how to use etc.. using singularity?

Love my Solar. My fretwork wasn't the greatest on mine on the edges but still a great guitar. I noticed it even more once I got my esp ltd 7 string baritone awb7 . The fretwork on that esp was really smooth like a great plek job.

I agree with the whole 6 string thing and memorable riffs. Repeat after me slowly folks HEAVINESS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TUNING DOWN!

Reminds me of how at one point Andreas Kisser told Dino Cesarez that you don't have to tune low to be heavy. However, shortly afterwards Andreas started tuning to B flat standard. So....

throw a sustainiac in the neck too, would pair real nicely with the kill switch
