To be honest I feel like KZbin has hindered reselling a bit. People are more aware of it then they were when I first got into it in like 2014. Plus charity shops are expensive now and its hard to find a good margin as they just look on solds or price it on the basis of the first listing which annoys me, I mean they are a couple of ones who are reasonable near me but half the time its not worth it. Due to the amount of reselling videos now on KZbin of car boots etc its made more competition I feel and a lot more people selling at car boots want ebay prices without the ebay hassle of selling on there. Thanks! I think KZbin has certainly made people more aware of eBay reselling (it's how I found out people actually did it full-time). Charity shops have definitely gone more expensive and you always here "it's worth X on eBay" at car boots - even though most of the time that's listed price and not sold price. What you don't see is the 7 days a week 10 hour days I work and for not a huge amount of reward. Though I'll miss the freedom of being able to drop everything and do something I need to do straight away.

A sad video really but makes sense if it's not working out. I've been reselling part time with my full time job for about 5 years and hoped to go full time. However, seems like no matter how hard I tried just couldn't seem to make enough to quit the full time job regular income. Recently sales have been terrible and I've had to close my shop (now on pay as you sell). Also been difficult to get bootsale stock due to all the bad weather.

Awww sorry to hear that. You can resell on the side as a side hustle. Even personal items can incur tax of you sell over 1k per financial year. So its not illegal to sell personal things and can be taxed depending on how much you do sell

Yeah I know about that limit, I will still sell off personal items (I collect a lot of things and always switching up my collections!).

It's a very difficult period, between eBays constant tinkering and the economy it has seen many a good seller reach a point of unsustainability (been covering this alot on my channel too). Me too. I lost a fortune for me, some 3000.00 of inventory. It's just not feasible with so many penalties you can break and knock backs. I cannot continue

closed my shop 6 months ago as its just not viable the charges are disgusting especially the final fees ebay actually made more money than me and when you do stop and close the shop they wont ring you and ask why there totaly not bothered

A lot of people are quitting reselling in the USA too. I might move away from eBay, but I definitely won’t be quitting reselling because I’ve been reselling for too long to ever quit.

I will still carry on listing personal items on my personal account (up to the tax limit) I can't quit completely, been on eBay since 2001!

@@rickadams I’ve been on eBay since it started, but I’ve been looking for an alternative that’s not so slow because that’s why a lot of people here in the USA are quitting reselling altogether is because of how slow it is, and others are quitting because they don’t like the changes being made to all of the selling platforms because the buyers are angry about the changes being made. I’m in the research phase right now, and I won’t be making a decision about what I’m doing until I know for sure that it’s best for my business.

Yeah it took me a long time to come to this decision but I don't think I can sustain another winter period (post-Christmas) so getting out now.

Hello Rick, three weeks on and i hope you got the job and all is well. The horrid truth about reselling in 2023 for most people is that you are doing 80 hours work to avoid doing a a 36 hours job that pays more.

Yes I was working 7 days a week 8-10 hours a day. I start the new job tomorrow, looking forward to it!

@@rickadams Rick. Everything is always squeezed, Car boots are now horrid compared to just 7 -8 years ago. Charity shops scan/search everything and anything worthwhile goes to the head office for eBay listing or a crazy price put on it. Thousands more re-sellers since lockdown-chasing less and more expensive stock; does not add to a great career move, does it? You are a straight-up guy, you know the truth, most resellers on KZbin basically lie and stick with it so they can get their face on KZbin; Most are propped up by Universal credit or a working wife and the elephant in the room is that the vast majority of KZbin resellers are trying to be KZbinrs not resellers. I wish you well and 100% guarantee your mind and soul be more securely stacked with a regular wage than the desperate situation of listening for a 'ting' on the phone. Maybe going forward do a vid to tell us how the move went and if you're happier with a regular wage, or wished you were getting up at 5am on Sunday morning looking for Stock. Regards Tower,

I think it’s because many started during the pandemic and quit their jobs too soon. The whole world was at home for two years. Reselling still offers great opportunity but it takes time. Not a get rich quick deal. Many should have kept their jobs and build profits overtime. All the best mate

First time I have seen one of your videos but I'm not surprised. 1) Everyone is trying to make a buck after watching these KZbin videos/have no money etc so the car boots are rammed with buyers - 10 in the early entry queue 10 years ago vs 100's now 2) Sellers aren't there, they are either eBaying stuff themselves, are looking things up etc so there is no stock 3) Charity shops are a waste of time - all looked up, items bought by staff, eBayed themselves 4) As you say most people have no money. All the best with what you do next.

Thank you, yeah I see loads of resellers at my car boots, even private sellers (it's not hard to search local items and find their accounts from what they've purchased) HMRC will catch up with them eventually.
