[I'm Screwed...] First time hearing RED VELVET! "Russian Roulette" "In My Dreams" "Bad Boy" REACTION

Couple of fun facts... "Russian Roulette" was the first ever Kpop song to be prominently featured in a major Hollywood film. It was in the DreamWorks production "Trolls - World Tour." The girls did the voices for the "Kpop gang" in the film. "Bad Boy" was written by Grammy award winning production team "The Streoetypes" who have worked with Bruno Mars among many others, who composed it specifically for RV. The thing that's so special about Red Velvet is their "vocal line" of Wendy Seulgi and Joy all have very distinct and disparate vocal tones that blend extremely well together. When all 5 of them sing together, they sound like a whole choir. I've stated this before, but the almighty "Dumb Dumb" and "One of these Nights" need to be next. Amd you haven't lived until you've experienced their most recent Korean comeback "Feel My Rhythm." Sorry for the essay.

And they voiced in it... might go watch this film just for that now haha Wow that's amazing that it was composed strictly for RV... you gotta be turning a lot of heads for that to happen! Wendy is definitely my favourite voice at the moment but they are all sound so beautiful and have amazing voices! I love red velvets dances they are more simple which allows for them to sing live more often. I find that the extremely hard dances tend to take away from the song and the vocals. I like how red velvet has catchy point dances that everyone can do, this used to be what kpop was all about but now 4th gen is all about insally hard dances and it puts me off their music because it's so hard to replicate

I completely agree with this! And I definitely thing RedVelvet have nailed the perfect balance in what I have witnessed so far. The choreo is still impactful and super on point but it isn't so difficult that they have to focus on it so much detracting from their vocals! I love it!

Okay so Red Velvet do have RED, VELVET, and then the combo of RED & VELVET in their title tracks and b-sides. As one comment said, it’s not so much the lyrics or message of the song that makes it RED or VELVET, it’s the music genre or style as well as concept. RED is their more upbeat, weird, colorful, and experimental kinds of songs and concepts. VELVET is their smooth, feminine, heavily influenced in r&b/hip hop, and have at times dark or mature concepts visual wise like music videos. Then there’s RED & VELVET.. when it’s a good mix of both!! Yes they do have title tracks that can be classified as both. RV title tracks RED: Happiness, Ice Cream Cake, DUMB DUMB, Rookie, Red Flavor, Power Up, Zimzalabim, Umpah Umpah, and Queendom. VELVET: Be Natural, Automatic, One Of These Nights, Peek-A-Boo, Bad Boy, and RBB (Really Bad Boy). RED & VELVET (this can be debated lol): Russian Roulette, Psycho, and Feel My Rhythm.. Sometimes I feel Zimzalabim can be included in this category.

As someone who is a Reveluv and a Somnia… I don’t put them in the same lane… but also remember SM entertainment is known for their Idols vocals. And RV has been singing collectively as a group for 10yrs… also Dreamcatcher’s music doesn’t require harmonies… but they both my ults, they both deliver different aspects of music to me. So don’t feel bad about that comment… but side note when DC does songs that are slower or when they sing someone’s else’s song a cappella they harmonize really good, especially SuA and Yoohyeon. There is a live of JiU, Siyeon, and SuA singing a cover of “I love You” that you should check out. You can see some great harmonies from them

I fell in love with their group out of all the Kpop girl groups because of their b-side songs, voices and personalities (currently watching their Red Velvet: A Mess Series by bubbleflexe). Ahh you love Russian Roulette! I love it! Totally iconic red song with the quirky dark concept in the video. So yes that was Wendy at the beginning, way to go! Where you paused at the deep red/pink hair that was your second guess of Yeri! :) Orange hair in that video is Seulgi, Blonde with bangs is Joy and light pink hair Irene. So - if no one has told you, Wendy had a very tragic accident - a fall at a stage where (if I remember correctly) she was told to go somewhere where there were supposed to be stairs but there was nothing. She broke her pelvis, fractured bones in her face, I think broke her wrist as well. Like - if that wouldn't be devastating enough for ANYONE, but for a vocalist when your vocal tone is affected by your nasal cavities and whatnot and additionally being a kpop idol expected to present a certain image... yeah. So that was in like... 2019 ... when they were promoting Psycho I think. So a lot of Psycho promotions took place without Wendy. Then in early 2021 Wendy came back with a solo album, and Red Velvet returned as a 5 member unit in August with Queendom. Then this spring they have released the Reve Festival 2022 album with title track Feel My Rhythm and a Japanese album with ... 5? .. new Japanese songs including the title track Wildside. So when you saw a lot of the videos were older and thought maybe they weren't active... they KINDA weren't for a while because of Wendy's recovery. But holy cow if you love Wendy's vocals... yeah you have to check out her solo project. Also the Irene & Seulgi subunit project happened in their sort of hiatus - Naughty has one of the most epic and amazing kpop choreo of all time. I can't even classify In My Dreams red or velvet... I wouldn't call it Red at all because it's not bright and vibrant and poppy. It's not very typical Velvet for them, but it's more mature and soulful so I'd call it Velvet if I had to set it to a side. In My Dreams - unrequited love song. Not sure if it's a breakup or an unrequited song - but a song of longing love. So stunning. Wendy's ad lib vocals at the end.... killllller. YES! You got Seulgi in Bad Boy! :D

i’m fairly new to red velvet (started stanning in 2020) but i’m pretty sure red songs are their more upbeat poppy songs and velvet is their more rnb slow or just darker toned songs

@@atgnireactions5343 true but i haven’t been keeping up w them so i don’t know much abt their personalities, group history, or facts. but either way i dove into their discography right after i heard psycho and when i learned they have a red and velvet side. i watched youtube videos that compiled all of their velvet songs and i put them in a playlist, since their velvet side is more my taste (although i still really enjoy their red side). i love their music a lot it’s so creative and out of the box in a good way. they have a lot of rnb, jazz, and just sensual sounding songs and that’s why i gravitated to their music so fast. also i was in love of how their music and voices literally sounds like red velvet. it feels like you’re listening to rich, expensive and smooth velvety instrumentals and vocals. i appreciate that so much, especially since i really look for vocals when stanning a group that’s why i like them and mamamoo so much. sorry for the paragraph im so passionate abt their music 😭😭

Your explanation about their voices is so spot on by the way, it literally is like listening to red velvet! I love that description!! Vocals are a big part of groups for me along with the instrumental sound and how they work together. Sometimes you get one thats good and the other is bad and it just puts you off! But I am thoroughly enjoying RV!

I think you have switched the meaning of red and velvet hehe Red side is the CUTE and BUBBLY and POP side like "Red flavor, Russian Roulette, umpah umpah" Velvet side is the DARK, SMOOTH, JAZZ, SEXY & R&B side of them like "Bad boy, Psycho, I just, automatic, be natural etc." and There are Mixed songs "Red + Velvet" side like "Zimzalabim, Peek-a-boo, feel my rhythm, rbb etc." and I noticed you love the Red side more which is the minority of this fandom

MV views don't lie! look at the MV views of Psycho & Bad Boy (both are velvet side) compared to Red flavor, umpah umpah & queendom (all are red side). I think because velvet side is a vocal flex for them like "Wildside & La Rouge" (this 2 is a must to react) and if you really love their Red side you can check out "Queendom, Ice cream cake, dumb dumb & umpah umpah"

It's hard to beat Red Velvet's vocals. Red Velvet and Dreamcatcher are my top 2 groups and in that order. You are correct, while I like Dreamcatchers vocals you'd be hard pressed to find better harmonization than RV

I love Red Velvet and Dreamcatcher but for the acknowledged best female vocal, harmonization and rapping group you need to check out Mamamoo. Red Velvet and Mamamoo are friends, especially Seulgi and Moonbyul, they even have a song together called Selfish. Dreamcatcher are fans of Mamamoo, Dami even raps and sounds like Moonbyul with her deep voice.

I know of Mamamoo, but will definitely be checking them out at some point, although I would argue Dami and Moonbyul both rap with lower registers, but Moonbyul has a melodic way of rapping, while Dami's rap is curt and aggressive

Personally I think some of the best current female kpop group rappers are from unexpected groups - Mimi of 'Oh my girl' (particularly her cover of Beenzinos 'break'), and Exy of WJSN.

No judgement, it's just so funny because it's like at fairly bad parts to pause at XD Also I hope while editing you got to see some of the things you missed in the MVs (like the murder in RR lol). I hope you'll be able to check out Irene and Seulgi's subunit soon as well as Wendy, Joy and Yeri's solo work. They're a group of very talented individuals. In My Dreams is actually from their mini album this year. It had Feel My Rhythm and In My Dreams as well as 3 other songs. They've been in the industry for a long time and are from SM Ent. who specialize in vocal harmony. Not harmonies necessarily, but harmony, where when their artists sing together it sounds like you are ascending into heaven lol. Wendy is actually known as the best 3rd gen idol vocalist and no one really compares tbh. She sets the bar high for their songs. She's got a crazy passion for vocals and continues to improve every year. And it's a testament to the other girls that they can keep up and work towards the same comfortable areas that Wendy can sing. Actually they released a new Japanese track called Wildside that you should also check out. They sing the chorus lines in turns and it really shows off what they can do. I am genuinely embarrassed by how bad my pausing actually is... like it's terrible haha! I do watch the vids back whilst editing so I do notice things but then also I watch the actual MV again when people point out things I missed! Still working on trying to see EVERYTHING as I go but that might be a bit difficult... A lot of people have mentioned Wendy being considered the best 3rd gen idol and honestly I can see why! She's so talented and her voice is just angelic, and the fact that Irene, Yeri, Joy and Seulgi fit around her voice so well is just amazing. Seeing as you are a relatively new reactor, word to the wise... things move FAST in kpop music video's, so when you look away from the monitor to look into the camera, you are inevitably missing stuff in the video. Whether it's killing points in the choreo or video production, or even key moments in a storyline, it can be stressful for us viewers because we're watching you miss these things that are usually the reasons why the video was recommended in the first place... so pleaaaaase be mindful of that 🙏🥺 (also, fyi... there is an English version of Bad Boy that is just about as good as the original, which is not usually the case)

Actually this is probably one if the best comments I have received thus far... because as you've rightly said I am super new and have no idea 'how' to react... I am just reacting. So thank you so much for this comment! I was just worried people would be bored of staring at the side of my head for ages! But I shall definitely be more mindful when watching the MV's in the future! @@atgnireactions5343 For me personally (and probably most people), I watch reactions to see people (hopefully) fall in love with the groups/artists/content that I care about. So priority one for me is the reactor consuming the content fully and in the way it was intended to be, so I appreciate when reactors give it their full attention... preferably with minimal pausing and when restarting the mv, a 5-10 second roll back. This is because as we all know, music/mv's are about build up and release, so when pausing happens, that buildup and/or release can get diminished or squashed entirely... to avoid that happening or to at least minimize that, it's a really good habit to rewind a bit every time so you can get back into the flow of what's happening. Generally though, I tend to watch the mv too and look at the reactor when it's paused and is speaking or when there are killing points in the mv that typically are a hit with reactors. Like the moments in Russian Roulette when people start to realize the members are trying to murder one another. 😄
