John Piper, what precisely did you mean when you said: “Christians communicate a falsehood to unbelievers when we act as if policies and laws that protect life and freedom are more precious than being a certain kind of person”? Brave words for a coddled, white American pastor. Would this play well in Nigeria where Christian’s are being killed en masse? Or Nagorno-Karabakh? Or China? N Korea? How about living in a place where they have no laws preserving life or freedom before making such an absurd pronouncement?

Great question! I certainly do not know what he means. However what comes to mind for me, personally, is that God intends for me to be a certain kind of person more than just a political person. Now if I could expand upon that 👆I believe God has always intended for his creation to live in a way where we respect one another's humanity. In Jesus, we see him interpret the commands correctly and live in obedience to them, the way God always intended. And Jesus stood for justice, and righteousness, and cared for those in need. But I wouldn't say Jesus' focus was to be political. His focus was God and helping others see God by living and walking a specific path. I think when we take various stands against injustices and don't do it the way Jesus did, we miss the mark. I think God also still loves us in those moments. But I believe our God desires for us to know Him and trust in His love enough where we would bring it into the world around us... and yes, standing up and against injustices.
