You really are honest and I respect it. Even though you will stop making these videos for a while you really have saved me from some serious accidents that could’ve happened while working. I’ve started woodworking and carpentry at 14 years old. All I can say is thank you without your videos I would probably be seriously injured right now. I wish you luck❤ happy new year

Love the idea of the courses!!! Courses that I am interested in: - siding, with different types - computer desks - how to design it, including joinery and what consequences of different wood selections would be - how to build it - kitchen table builds - chair builds - chair repairs, both structural and finish. What is "too broken" to be worthwhile to fix? Upholstery - couch/chair upholstery - DIY or find somebody? - wood repair - my dog chewed on various wood articles (banister end, cabinets) - baseboard repair - the part by the shower took a beating and needs to be refinished badly, but how? - kitchen wood floor is made of "engineered wood", and the finish is flaking off, and needs to be refinished, but the top veneer is so thin that a big 12-20" industrial sander would go through the top veneers (which have hand carving marks to boot). How to this repair properly, gently and thoroughly; hopefully while using power tools to save time?

Looking forward to it Ethan! One thing regarding structures I’d like to see is how to “correct to square”. Almost all woodworking KZbin videos show the star of the show “checking for square”, and it always is. That is of little help to those of us who struggle with getting things square. I’d love to see how to make some corrections when they check for square - it isn’t - and now a correction needs to be made. Otherwise - why does everyone include it in their video to “check for square”? Maybe I’m alone in this - but it would be helpful! Thank you!

It's a worthy topic, because square, level, and plumb are the key to have a project work out. If any of them are out the problem really shows up when installing doors, trim, siding, or decking. It sounds like Ethan will be very busy. If he doesn't have time to address this feel free to reach out to me.

@@ST-0311 ahh, I see what you mean. My immediate project is to build a workbench - maybe like the door-top one you demo’d, or maybe plywood top. I have a laundry list of projects on my list, including an entryway bench, a table for under a wall mounted tv, a simple desk, nightstands, … probably other similar things, but all “smallish. I built a catio recently and it came out ok except a couple non-square braces. I’d like to build a woodshed too, but probably not near term. Thanks for your responses! I consider myself a beginner (but ambitious) so ‘preciate your instructive videos.

Humble suggestion -- and maybe this would be for more advanced courses - but discussion about what tools or software to use when planning your project -- like pen/paper/graph paper or tools like SketchUp. How best to draw plans. Thanks for consideration.

How you don't have a million subs is beyond me. I have always enjoyed your videos. I watch some of them over and over just to absorb all that you are teaching, I can honestly tell you the 2 worst things about your videos is 1.)They are always too short. 2.) I can only give them one thumbs up. Ethan, you do a WONDERFUL job in your videos. I wish I could email you a beer. Keep up the great work.

Another topic I thinks would be helpful is “fasteners”. A few years back I took on a project with friends to install new siding on one side of my house. How hard could it be? As it turned out, it was pretty challenging. The worst part was when the inspector came out, he failed it, in part because we used screws vs the required nails. Surely screws would hold better! We had neglected to consider the sheer strength issue. There was also an issue because the wall was inexplicably 8’4” tall, and of course we used 8’ panels, and planned to just cover the gap. That didn’t fly either, blocking was required. So I had to take it all down, then hire a professional to it right. It was a major debacle, especially with the hard work we did out in the hot Sierra sun on the deck. Anyway, some instruction about fasteners for various kinds of projects (from small woodworking projects to structural, eg a woodshed) would be helpful if you can fit it in. 😎

Most projects have an aesthetic aspect (not strictly utilitarian) so in addition to structure some mention of DESIGN choices (eg, cabinet faces, corner options). Doing so intro course could offer tease for advanced course… that is, not full ‘how to’ but merely ideas for more attractive or multifunctional result.

Talking about framing, I recently saw a video where they were actually making double walls. Each wall was made with 2"x4" studs. By changing the distance between these they could make the walls thicker and, once filled with insulation, they were far more efficient in keeping the house insulated. They said the use of the 2"x4" studs was more cost effective than using 2"x6" studs. Many years ago, when Bob Vila was still the host of "This Old House," they went to a factory that made wall sections by sandwiching 4"-6" of polyisocyanurate between OSB. These were standard 4'x8' sections. They could be used in the walls and the roofs, As polyisocyanurate has an R-6 per inch rating, that's very good, You might want to consider both of these in your new series, Thank you.

I think the surprises you find when you find out what the previous “DIY” homeowners may have done that makes your job harder might have too many possible examples to cover in a 101 course, but what I’ve learned in my house is that’s where the difficulty comes from. Good coverage there would be immensely valuable.

Hi Ethan, I’ve watched so many of your videos, you’re a wonderful teacher! I’m excited to hear about your online courses! I will be taking them. BUT.. you always ask for feedback.. here ya go… I would LOVE to see you gear a carpentry class specifically towards women, in person. I would pay for that in a heartbeat. A lot of women are getting interested in learning these skills..maybe it’s part of the whole furniture flipping craze but either way, you should throw the idea out there and gauge the response. This has historically been a male dominated domain, which is great but if women could come and learn alongside other women…I think it would be a hit and an untapped niche. Please consider it and let me know if you think you might do it!
