Hahaha! I'm 63 and in my 40s and 50s, I'd sleep in a tent in my backyard with my two dogs (leaving my husband inside😅) all summer long. Once I got a little too creaky in the bones, I slept in our pop-up in our driveway from April to November (CT). I get the whole sleep in your car in the driveway vibe. 😂

Bear Mountain Park is one of the most beautiful parks in my opinion to explore. Especially the outer areas that aren’t really accessible or known about by the public that are still accessible. Especially hiking up the trails on the opposite side of the Hudson River and getting views of the Bear Mountain Bridge. That was my favorite hike ever. I live somewhat locally to the area so it’s good to see that you’re getting around, while also eating healthy and staying healthy. Keep it up. I absolutely love your content as I have always wanted to be outside when I’m able to. Regardless of the weather. I don’t like the indoors very much even in the winter time when it’s colder I still like to go outside and explore as much as I can.

Lovely hike. Glad to hear nomad life is working for you. We avoid the NE because of super limited camping spots. Nice reflection on your nomad transition. As Joseph Campbell said: “If you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. Follow your bliss and don't be afraid, and doors will open where you didn't know they were going to be.” Thanks for sharing.

Your mental growth is completely normal for a person of your age. At 80 I’ve learned a couple things. If you missed out on something in your past you’ll enjoy it more when you do it now it’s actually a bonus. How about that! Ps every first camping trip with our camper each year was always in the driveway to discover what we forgot to park or what needed a repair. That and build packing checklist helps get everything in the car. Hope this helps. Love your vids. Makes my life better. Thanks

Amazing to hear about all your changes and growth, thanks for sharing as it will help others that are in a dark place too.

There is something to be said for trying out your car setup in the driveway before leaving for the first time. I did not do that and I see a few changes that need to be made. I just left my Alaskan town 3 days ago after selling my house and now on my way to see my family in Michigan. While I did stay in a hotel and a lodge for the first two nights, I slept horribly the second night and left the lodge super early. 2 hours later I was in a wayside pullout to catch a couple more hours sleep. Being super-tired was not the best way to discover how much I need to change my setup! For some reason, I feel pressed to make it through Canada and get back into the US. Probably because of the long distance and the winter weather. Anyways, 'll be out of Canada and back into the USA after a short 5 hour drive tomorrow and I think it will be time to start making changes to my setup. Thanks to you and your cousin Nikki for being such terrific inspirations to help me pursue some adventure in my life I may not have otherwise had! I have learned a lot from you both. Happy trails!

My car was in the shop today so I walked to the mechanic since it was down the street and it's about 30 degrees out here and had to stick a napkin up my nose cause it kept running and while I was walking I thought if I were to camp outside with winter approaching I would basically have to sleep almost in the fire to stay warm but when I got my car back I was like I'll start with the car first. There's this 24 hour graveyard a mile away that I wanted to practice at so I can get comfortable like you and Nikki and I can wear tight spandex in every video and put my hair in a french braid like you guys.

I have a Rav 4 myself, i used to have a Tacoma. I only camped in the rav once, and I do plan on more in the future. When you mentioned changing your platform, I can imagine storage is what you need it for most. Maybe you could look into a rooftop carrier for some of the stuff you don't use as much? I figured it was a good suggestion. I love your videos, and it's great to see all the beautiful places. Keep up the great work!

@TheBlackLeprechaun That's ironic that you clearly like her red nails. I felt just the opposite. I thought here's this young, cute, healthy female, living in a car, always out in nature and the last thing she should have on is nail polish (or makeup). It just seems out of place. While she's young, cute, healthy & outdoorsy, she should have the least amount of makeup and all the other female "stuff' possible. Just be natural.

Fun to see Bear Mountain again. I grew up in Rockland but have lived in other states for many years. I do still go "home" to visit family annually. My sister just sent a photo of her and her husband after a hike up to Perkins this past weekend (but they looked cold, sky was gray, and no more pretty fall colors). I watch these car/van travel videos mainly to see places i haven't been, but it's also fun to see familiar territory. And it's new to someone! So many people hear New York and jump immediately to the city. It's a magnificently gorgeous state! I'm on the verge of retiring and buying a good travel vehicle for cross country trips. The RAV4 is a contender. I'm curious, Ms. Sarah, where you will do your upright sitting. Looks like all your floor space next to the bed platform is taken up. Hmm...

Hey Sarah! There's nothing quite like a beautiful fall hike. Here in the northeast we have a really spectacular autumn season! You're so right about getting outside for physical and mental health, it does wonders. Your new setup in the Rav should work out nice. Good job being willing to adjust your setup as you find things to improve. It has been fun to watch the evolution. From the parking lot segment might I suggest a piece of 1/2 inch plywood, 23x24 inch based on your statement that the platform is 23" wide. It could be stored under the mattress and put on top of it when cooking for a more solid surface and to protect the bedding from spills & splashes.

Maybe your passenger seat is clear now because you may be getting a dog or cat. I was born and raised in north Jersey (kinda the north end of Bergen County) but moved away decades ago. My family and I spent plenty of time hiking the trails in Bear Mountain and Harriman state parks. My Dad and I would sometimes hike the Major Welch trail to get a great workout in. Short trail but very steep! Looks like your Mom lives in a super nice area - lucky you!
