@@TheJSpot93 She helped watch her for one Summer ffs. Giles, Xander, Spike and Tara likely helped out with that too. Also, Dawn is 15. She's not a two year old who needs constant supervision. Convenient to "pay" her dues without actually contributing any actual money. Life is hard; she could have got a part time job to help out considering she is living in Buffy's house rent free and she never even offered.

@@RavensTheNextDynasty Plenty of people go to school full time and still have a part time job because money is a concern. She's living in Buffy's place rent free as far as we know. It's not too much to ask her, and even Tara to be fair, to contribute to the money situation. Buffy is a Slayer full time, with all the inconvenience and long, late hours that goes along with it, but she still needs to get a job apparently.

I think fans are generally mixed on this episode, but personally, I love it. It's just so weird, creepy, and even darkly comedic at points. It's tonally different from other episodes, making it stand out a lot more (whether that's a good or bad thing is up to the viewer I suppose.) The scene with Buffy and Spike was majorly relatable. I mean, depressing and gross, yeah, that's the whole point. It's not about intercourse, it's about self-loathing. What you said about these episodes - that you appreciate the experiences they're showing, but it's hard to watch - I'm right there with you. I'm glad that Buffy didn't end with season five, even if it was an excellent finale. There is important stuff in the last two seasons (a detailed rant would get spoilery :). But I can't say with a smile that I _like_ season six. I _appreciate_ the heck out of it and rate it highly, but the totality of it feels like an emotionally draining misery olympics. @troikas3353

Doesn't make any sense to me that people assume none of Buffy's friends were paying for anything. That's completely not in line with the characters we've seen for six years at this point. They clearly would be, they just only had enough to slow the financial drowning and not stop it.
@MicukoFelton
@MicukoFelton Жыл бұрын
We know Willow doesn't have a job, where would she be getting the money from.
@troikas3353
@troikas3353 Жыл бұрын
@@MicukoFelton We don't actually. The show never elaborates on what any of them do aside from Giles and Buffy here. Willow likely has had odd jobs, just like Xander did, but unlike him the show was never interested in exploring that with her so it's simply never shown it. I guarantee if it was intended that they were taking Buffy's money, that would have come up since the whole point of the season is forcing as much, arguably contrived, drama between these characters as possible. Willow and Tara have enough money live but not enough to fix Buffy's financial problems and as far as the writers were concerned that's all that matters. But if you really need an explanation; it's pretty implied that Willow's parents were if not rich at least well off, it'd hardly be surprising if she created her own little college nest-egg while growing up with their assistance, perhaps even with her own investing given how always-prepared her schoolastic mindset was, to give her the padding she needed to get through college without overly worrying about working while doing her studies. A nest-egg likely intended for a far more expensive college, considering she had a golden ticket to any ivy league she wanted and willingly gave that up and continue risking her life to selflessly help Buffy save people. But again, that's as much head canon as the idea they are free loading off Buffy is, the only difference being this one doesn't assume the most character assassinatingly worst of anyone that isn't Buffy. Willows financial status is just a completely unnecessary detail in the story being told beyond that she's not rich enough to bail out Buffy. Frankly, the only reason for anyone to assume any of these characters are "free loading" off Buffy is if they already actively dislike the characters to begin with and are specifically just looking for the absolute worst possible interpretation for what they are doing. Which I really don't know why they'd be watching the show at that point but, more power to them if they do I guess.

I think Willow and Tara are unable to work because they're full time students, and they do contribute to household and Slayer responsibilities. I was thinking that Willow's parents were paying for her tuition and dorm fees, and the average monthly cost of housing is around $650. But then I thought, "How does Tara pay for college?" Her family obviously doesn't approve of her, and she ran away from home. The only possible explanation is a scholarship. She secretly applied for one, was approved, and that pays for her classes, room, and other expenses like books, food, and other living essentials. I don't know if she gets a regular stipend that she can use on the condition that she attends her classes, or if she forfeit that money by moving out of the dorm, but that seems more likely than Tara having time for a full time job.

Willow and Tara were cohabitating pretty much since a few days after they first met. Unofficially living in each other’s dorms. Especially Willow in Tara’s room. You’d think they’d already know that pitching in with rent and other bills equally is the price to living in an environment that doesn’t belong to them. At the very least since moving into Buffy’s house as a domestic couple they would have gotten jobs themselves and, like Buffy had to, drop out of school/college so they’d be able to take care of Dawn as well as provide for her financially. Yeah, it’s never going to not bother me. They should be the first ones to understand how “roommates” works. When they moved in together in that student campus living environment in 5x02/5x03, this will have been when they worked out the costs between them. So that should have automatically transferred over to the Summers house when Buffy died.

My personal head canon on the subject of paying the slayer is that the Watchers plan on depositing 10 billion dollars into the slayer's bank account on her 26th birthday. But she can't know that, because she first has to prove that she isn't in it for the money, that she genuinely cares about people, and that her heart is pure, which means she's saving the world for all the right reasons. Once the Watchers are satisfied that this is the case, one year after her brain is fully formed at age 25, they will shock her by depositing the money on her 26th birthday. But since no slayer has ever lived passed the age of 25, the Watchers never had to pay up.

Posting my BUFFY REWATCH recap for ‘Doublemeat Palace’. May contain spoilers. ‘Doublemeat Palace’ is an odd and questionable episode for me. It is, to me, ‘BtVS’ creators inept attempt at satire. It is satire of the fast food industry and experience. In this episode Buffy, now in desperate need of money, gets a job working as a fast food worker at a local fast food restaurant called ‘Doublemeat Palace’. Similar (and inferior) to ‘Smashed’ and ‘Wrecked’, what usually is written as a metaphor is pretty on-the-nose, and this time it doesn’t work. The main story for this episode might work for some people... but it just doesn’t for me. I find myself cringing just watching it, so it’s an unpleasant experience for me. And not in a “you’re meant to feel this way” way, as is the case with other satire I have watched and have thoroughly enjoyed. I just don’t like the way it is written. It lacks the clever artistry of previous episodes that have also tried satire. It’s too obvious and therefore too silly to pay any attention to. So I would like to focus on other narratives and themes going on in this episode for this recap. I am much more interested in what’s going on with Willow in this episode. (No shit, Sherlock!). Amy makes an appearance again - visiting Willow to ask her, for some insane reason, for the cage she lived in when she was a rat. Don’t know what that’s about but it gives the character an opportunity to create chaos for Willow once again. I often talk about the issues Willow has with the theme of consent. Amy is another character that clearly has no idea what consent means and why it matters. Amy does a really shitty thing and forces an experience on Willow that Willow never asked for and never wanted in the first place. She’s been doing so well in her recovery from magic addiction so far and Amy just walks back into her life and intends to fuck it all up for her as easily as muttering an incantation. She gives some of her magical power to Willow as a “gift” and thus Willow struggles throughout the rest of the episode to control herself with it. Watching the scene in her bedroom, I could see that she was already nervous just at the sight of Amy walking in, not knowing what her intention was to be there. Understandable after the negative influence she had on her the last time she saw her and all that went down because of it. I have mentioned several times now in previous recaps that it’s possible Willow has an undiagnosed variant of OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder), and she displays symptoms of it once again in this episode. With the distracting and the fidgeting,... which you could by all rights put that all down to her struggling with her addiction. But to me it looks like the character is having tics,... which is a common occurrence and often misunderstood observation in people who have OCD. It isn’t intentional. It’s subconscious. They distract themselves and fidget with objects and materials in effort to control their extreme anxiety in the moment and to keep their mind away from their obsession. So it still could very much be about Willow struggling with her addiction, just with the condition of OCD added on to it. There are key moments that stands out to me that I think gives evidence to this interpretation. Willow visits Buffy at work with the rest of the Gang, and you see her mindlessly playing with the straws at a kiosk, not paying any attention to Buffy at all. Touching and fidgeting with them. Completely without focus to what’s happening in front of her until Buffy asks her if she’s okay and she snaps out of it. Later, just before the scene with Amy, she’s highlighting text in a book. Then when Amy is there and she asks her how her cessation from doing magic is going, Willow tells her that it’s going good and she is getting her focus back. Amy then notices that she’s highlighted every single word on the page and makes a comment that makes Willow completely abandon the task and quickly close the book, not comfortable with Amy watching her and practically ridiculing her for her coping strategies. Amy can see that Willow is not at a stage where magic won’t affect her anymore and that’s what makes it even worse what she does to her. She takes advantage of Willow’s vulnerability in recovering from an addiction to magic and makes her do magic again, claiming that it’s “legal” because the power has come from her instead of Willow. I mean making someone do something they don’t want to do is already cruel enough, but to be aware that they’re refraining from doing it in the first place because it’s an addiction for them, and to use their vulnerability in that to justify you making them do it… it’s just downright evil. It’s evil because you know they’re vulnerable to it. You know they won’t be able to control themselves. Amy commits evil in this episode and I am extremely proud of Willow for putting her foot down and adamantly telling her to stay away from her when Amy comes by Buffy’s house again to “borrow detergent”. Willow was effectively triggered in this episode to a degree that would be beyond any recovering addict’s ability not to succumb to. The very fact she still gets through the day without using any magic of her own is remarkable. Despite what happens and the guilt Willow feels over it, she still didn’t relapse. It would be totally understandable if she did considering the immense impulsion to give in that she must have felt. You see, what Amy did to her was extremely wrong and she certainly should be severely reprimanded for it, but she was right about something she said. That it was legal. It does absolve Willow of the crime that it was Amy’s power and not hers. So any magic used at any point in this episode is not Willow’s fault. She was forced to use it and therefore it’s not on her to take accountability for it. It’s Amy’s. In my insistent opinion - Willow didn’t relapse and she shouldn’t feel shame for being unable to stop herself from using Amy’s magic and for thinking that she needs it. She does something extremely brave and inspirational in telling Amy to piss off. Removing herself from what is the biggest trigger and enabler of her addiction of all. Her magically-inclined friend and longtime foil who doesn’t seem to understand that what she’s done is evil. I’m completely in solidarity with Willow that she needs to fucking go. Amy is not her friend. Her final appearance in the show is in ‘Killer In Me’ in Season 7 where she tries to convince Willow that she’s turned over a new leaf but a rat will always be a rat and maybe that’s why she felt homesick without her cage. Going forward in the show, Willow continues to refuse to use magic at any point. Even in moments where it was most justifiable and beneficial to use it. And it just makes me smile that my favourite character is finally getting back on track from her detour from reality. I know she’s only a fictional person. She’s not a real person. But as I keep saying - fictional people represent real people. And if I was honest - she reminds me of somebody who is real and struggles with an addiction and is also doing very well in her recovery.

I think Beer Bad was bad, but this is possibly up there with it in being a terrible episode. A real filler if ever there was one. Ok I get the fact that Buffy needs an income etc, but it's just ridiculous. A ropey plot at best. The only really good thing about this is the conversation Willow has with Amy. We see Willow assert her power at the end saying to Amy 'if you are my friend stay away from here, and if you are not my friend you better stay away from here'. A tribute I think to Rick Moranis, the manager I think was deliberately made to look like him 'Feed Me Seymour' in homage to the plot of Little Shop Of Horrors. Of course we see Halfrek the vengeance Demon who seems to be coaxing Anya over Xander. Halfrek of course is played by the same actress that played Cecily the brilliant Fool For Love in S5, who spurned Spike's love advances when he was William. All in all not a great episode, of course we Buffy's sex addiction to Spike reaching further levels now having sex out the back in the alleyway near the bins, we can see how this is becoming more destructive.

I see your confusion😄The only thing this episode can teach people in my opinion is why it's important to have actual education. So it's good for eduction purposes 👍But at the same time I would say that current education system in some countries including America hardly teach people now, it rather corrupts their brains, programs them to have specific ideology. And they become its victims. And I don't know which is worse. And regarding episode, here they really show how they want this season to look like. That's it's litmus test. When there are episodes like that in the season, you know smth weird is going on.
