It's not a good idea if you're a car lover in the truest sense of the word. Car lovers like to touch, drive, and listen to cars. This is not really about cars, it's about investing. The car in this case is just a commodity, and as you don't get to experience the car, it may as well be shares or stocks or anything.

So just to be clear, you never get to drive the car you part own? For proper petrol heads then, utterly pointless. Imagine, a year coming up of classic events, sun is shining, car is sitting there and you cant touch it. Ridiculous. I can go into my garage anytime, see the cars, check them out then get in and drive when Spring comes. I also see brown/suede is back in fashion again since the 70s 😄

@@th3b0untyhunter The cars are displayed and shared at all times, its like visiting Haynes motor museum and being able to say you own a stake in some of the collection. Plus they are on show at events like SuperCar Fest, British Motor Show and others, so you can come up to the stand, have a chat and get more access to these great cars than if they continued to sit in private collections. People have collected cars for years, we are just providing a way for qualifying individuals to join together to curate their own collection.

@TheCarCrowd UK I suppose if you're buying cars that are in the investment realm already, then it probably makes little difference, it's either you have it or someone has it as an investment. The problem I have is pushing it as a chance to own your dream car, which is technically correct but disingenuous.
@Franzino
@Franzino Жыл бұрын
They say; you get to experience to own a piece of a classic car or maybe even own your dream car…but as it seem you are never able to drive any of them. They talk about sharing the love of these cars. I wonder how do these investors share that so called love of cars? In essence it’s only on paper you own the car and the idea of owning a small percentage of that car…nothing more, nothing less. It’s investing like investing in anything else that you believe will gain value in the future (art, stock market, property, etc). To my eyes looking at a car purely as an investment, has not that much to do with love of cars…it’s the love of making potential money that’s all. Nothing wrong with this, but all that talk about “own a piece of your dream car” is just some marketing talk. Also saying that investing in property is not that solid (and cars are more solid) is a rather strange remark. You can rent out property in the time you own it and when you want to sell it, then (in most cases) you sell it for a higher price. Also if housing market crashes then what will happen to the classic car market? People will always need to buy or rent a home…
@oliaye
@oliaye Жыл бұрын
Exactly my thought! I "own" a car which I'll never be able to drive. It's an investment only. That's not the right concept for a petrolheal which also want to drive his "assets". A real car fan/guy, however you want to name them, will never see a car as investment only. A real car lover want the driving experience.

Precisely, and this concept does nothing to help matters. This isn't providing regular people access to their now-unaffordable dream cars, it's simply offering them a piece of the speculative investment pie that wealthy collectors have been enjoying for a number of years already. I think the use of the term 'democratising' is a bit ridiculous, it makes it seem like this is a way of taking back ownership of these expensive assets, when really it's just handing out crumbs while the pie gets bigger and bigger....

This is simply an investment company. If you invest in any company you must remember shares go down as well as up, never invest in anything when prices are at the top. The thing to do is invest in something at the bottom of the market using your own knowledge in what you think will increase. Good luck with this one Jodie. 🤞

If the Testarossa is sold making £100,000 profit. 400 owners = £250 profit plus original investment for each investor less high overheads. He said each car becomes a limited company, so surly tax is involved as well? It seems a daft idea to me.
@thecarcrowduk
@thecarcrowduk Жыл бұрын
The returns are based on your % shareholding rather than spread equally and a single investor can own up to a maximum of 10% of any one vehicle. So in that scenario a 10% shareholder of a car that appreciated by £100k would make a £10k return. There is tax liability for corporation tax on the profit of the asset at point of disposal. This is covered from the profit and split between shareholders, if the vehicle does not appreciate there would be no tax liability on the disposal of the asset.

Isn’t this a bit like paying for a star or a star to be named? All you get is a certificate saying so and that’s about it. Yeah, you can go and see it but then you can do that at any car show or museum that has exotic cars in and it only costs you the entry fee. This just seems an odd concept for me. You don’t really own it in the way vehicles are owned and if you don’t get a chance to use it yourself I don’t see the point. Yes if and when it goes up in value you get a return but I’m not convinced for this I’m afraid, seems it’s just making it easier for the real owners to get these cars in their ownership.

I have watched this a couple of times now and I don't know about red ferraris but there are a lot of red flags here. Others have covered a lot of concerns but there are others like who actually owns the car as in who is on the log book, what happens to the money and cars should something happen to the company and what extra costs are there and are they based on the investment or valuation at the time. This just seems like established titles v2 or NFTs to appeal to people who an idea appeals to them however meaningless it is. You will only make money for so long before this tops out and the bubble bursts. Basically this company has bought a few cars and then using 'investors' to pay for more stock. Its not to say there isn't money to be made just now but eventually this is going to stop bearing fruit.

And what about maintenance and repair costs? I hope this is not neglected? For example, getting a Testarossa recommissioned to then potentially leave it for 5 years without driving. Then you can return from scratch the full recommission. Like told in the video, these recommissions don't come in quite cheap. If the car is sold at a profit. Will the costs be divided evenly with the shareholders? What if a car doesn't make its planned profit, but a loss. Will the maintenance cost also be deducted from the amount to be repaid to the investor?

Interesting idea. I have 11-month old twins and live in central London, so I’ve sold my cars (apart from my Stelvio) as I don’t have any time to drive them. I do feel like I’m missing out not owning anything so this seems like something to look into … BUT, I think the market will be a bit shaky for a while, at least until interest rates start falling. I would expect the returns to be very modest after all costs for the next few years, but ultimately the returns could be decent. Someone else mentioned Masterworks in the comments. Whiskeydirectinvest is a similar concept as well. Due to strong demand from US, China and India, I made about 50% on there over the last 18 months (after fees), but again, I expect the returns to fade from here.

If I "invested" in part-ownership in classic cars, it would have to be more like a time-share condo. Not paying for something I can't use. Cars are built to be driven.

If I was to put money into my "dream" car then I'd be wanting to drive it. It's a "dream" car as you want to experience it not just have it sitting in a shed Scheme is definitely not aimed at car lovers/enthusiasts it's aimed at investors which are totally different.
@x04-tb7rg

That would be ideal to drive them, but that works against the investment component of this, but I don't agree that there is no car lovers/enthusiasts angle here. Investing in these cars has to be more interesting for most people, especially car lovers/enthusiasts, than investing e.g. on the stock market - watching the share price of some PLC go up and down without any real clue why?!

This is not a new idea, I saw ads for shared ownership cars in the 00's, but you did at least get to buy them. Now is probably a bad time to invest for many cars - especially non-presitge which are in a nostalgia price bubble that will likely diminish as EV's become common place (reduced petrol availability + emissions restrictions on use) in the longer term. They tout it as 'anyone' can own a bit of a car, but you have to be a 'high net worth individual' to invest - why not buy your own car, use it, and sell it when you want? This kind of thing is exactly what drives classic car markets up (the person buying it is using other peoples money, so the price paid is less important than the purchase itself), and prohibits actual car enthusiasts from being able to afford classics, which is why you see fewer and fewer being actually used.
@x04-tb7rg
@x04-tb7rg Жыл бұрын
My prediction is that values will go up further as EV's become common place. Of course, just a personal opinion. "Self Certified Sophisticated investors" are also eligible. It might be a good idea to buy the whole car yourself, if you can afford it and have the means/desire to store and maintain it yourself.

@@thecarcrowduk agreed, I guess it’s no different to owning a share in a race horse, it’s just seems a stretch to do this with cars. If you are a petrol head, rather than doing it purely for the investment potential, it feels like being short changed somewhat if all you can do is look at the vehicles rather than to actually experience/drive them, like other similar ventures where you can effectively rent them to use. I'm sure some people will love this and no doubt some cars will make decent profit. For me the tax implications are too high, 24% corp tax (not capital gains as they are limited companies) dividend tax from 9-40% so worst case you'll get roughly 45p back for every £1 profit, low return/low earners will get roughly 70p in the pound. Best case scenario the return is less than £2k (current dividend allowance) and you'll get 74p per £1 profit.....oh and there is the management fee. It's not tax efficient but it is simple.

Hi Jodie, your video presentation’s are next level, and this was an eye opener again for me. Your choice of the Lancia Delta Integrale is a great one, I had a yellow Evo 2 1994 which was an outstanding vehicle that I wish I still owned. It was next level after my quattro’s, just not quite as bulletproof as the Audi’s. My S2 was a phenomenal vehicle once modified, as would the Evo 2 have been, but I left that standard. It was enough just to throw it at corners and it would sort itself out, at ridiculous speeds. A great car straight out of the box and just gone on country lanes. Group N spec., as standard for homologation I think, awesome non the less. Many thanks and blessings!
