Demi Moore delivers an impressive performance in The Substance, and I wouldn’t mind if she won the Oscar-especially since horror films are often overlooked by the Academy. However, Fernanda Torres in I'm Still Here is simply outstanding. Only a truly exceptional character can bring such a raw and realistic performance to life. Definitely rooting for her!

One must ask when giving an award "what is the story about? was it real? how many minutes does he/she have on screen? does the character that she/he portrays have enough layers to convey the message of the movie?"; but apart from that, the whole context of "I'm still here" (which is a huge scheme called Operation Condor through which US backed Right Wing military coups in Latin America) and the current situation of the immigration crisis in USA, the Academy has not only a great opportunity to send a powerfull message to the world, but also in a very beautiful full circle moment, given the history behind Fernanda Torres's mother being an Oscar nominee 25 years ago in a movie that was directed by Walter Salles as well. As she said during her speech: "Art can endure through life". This type of thing happens only once in a life time.

That was in 1999, with the movie Central Station, also directed by Walter Salles and nominated to Best Foreign Language Film. 💎 Fernanda Torres, Selton Mello and Fernanda Montenegro played in Four Days in Septemper, brazilian movie nominated to the Oscar of Best Foreign Language Film in 1998, also about brazilian dictatorship period. 💎 Fernanda Torres, aged 20, won the award for Best Actress at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival by the movie Love Me Forever or Never (tied with Barbara Sukowa, by Rosa Luxemburg).
