Apple products are my "get out of tech support free" card. Whenever friends and family ask about their iproblems, I just say "sorry, I don't know anything about Apple products" with a clean conscience.

Haha, as the tech guy in my (extended) family and friend circle: same. 100% same. I love it. Especially considering 75% of my friends and extended family use Apple products. As a tech guy I could most likely help them regardless, even though I am not very familiar with iOS/MacOS I know I could fix their issues if I just took the time to sit down, do some research and figure it out. But that's the problem: it would eat up a lot of my spare time, and I value my spare time too much.

I got Apple stuff (or steer them that way) for my family for the same reasons, but mostly because they hardly ever run into any actual issues. I had to be fixing stuff every other day or explaining how to do something when they used Windows, but getting them iPads and Macs, they just get on with things.

Considering the speed of said RAM and that it's all part of the actual SoC package, it makes sense. It isn't just slot it it in and go. It's like GDDRX speeds, it's crazy fast. A real benefit of being so tightly integrated into the CPU.

@@TalesOfWar It's just LPDDR5 6400MT/s next to the SoC on the system-in-a-package. It has high bandwidth because it has many memory channels (=high bus width), 4 channels on M2 Max and 8 channels on M2 Ultra. The memory is of course much slower than GDDR6X is at the same bus width. The regular Apple M2 has dual channel LPDDR5 6400MT/s and has the same memory bandwidth as any other laptop with dual channel LPDDR5 6400MT/s. The advantage of Apple Unified Memory is that both the CPU and GPU use the same memory.
@TalesOfWar
@TalesOfWar 11 ай бұрын
@@Pasi123 That's what I said. It's all one big memory pool directly accessible where it's needed. You can't really do that so well when you have replacable DIMMS because you can't control what ends up in there. They'll expect certain latencies etc for things to work smoothly, so putting in a stick that has timings out of the expectation can have a performance hit. The power usage is also generally a lot higher on non-soldered stuff. You'd be surprised just how much of the power draw is from memory.

Holy cow those memory prices are insane. A Sabrent Rocket 8TB PCIE 4.0 drive is currently $1000 on Amazon and Apple wants $2400? (Or more realistically, they're charging $2400 for 7.5TB since the original .5TB is included in the base price). Or the same drive in 2TB is $130 where Apple charges $600? If you don't need the speed, there's a Samsung QVO 8TB SATA drive for $335.

The RAM isn’t “soldered on” chips…. It is part of the SoC. Since it is in the main chip, it is a more difficult task compared to traditional PC the plan for the different memory need of customers. But the unified memory has performance benefits that the PC does not. That pool of memory can be allocated to the CPU or the GPU on the fly. Can you imagine having a system with 128 GB of RAM and the GPU can access that memory if it needs it… without the bottleneck of having to transfer data through a BUS!

They were always getting viruses etc.etc. After purchasing a MacBookPro and an iPhone, I was blown away at how easy they were and how they just worked. So I purchased my dad a 27" iMac and it has been a blessing. No longer do I get those tech support phone calls which would take hours. And the best part is if they have an issue I can remote into their computer and see whats going on. So simple. Bye bye windows.

I did the same thing but for good. A few things I've noticed and some advice. Put the magic mouse on the bookshelf as a piece of art and purchase the apple track pad. its much better and works exactly the same as your laptop. As far as apple not working well on some things, what I have found is software, like Microsoft Office products, are not as featured rich as they are on windows computers. It certainly isn't apples fault that Microsoft doesn't seem to care about keeping parity between versions. I 100% agree about the drive space and the costs, I have an external M.2 that I use and it works fine. I used to agree about the memory but with apple silicone I think they can finally justify why their memory is integrated into the system and can't be upgraded. Prices are very expensive but the integration is also mind blowing. BTW the Apple Watch can also be used to unlock the computer if its close. I hope you get into iMessage integration its one of my favorite things. Gaming does suck but I'm starting to see more quality games come out for Macs so maybe that is changing. I don't think either OS is better they are just different and require different approaches.

Okay, so first of all: My English isn't the best, so excuse me if i make some mistakes! Secondly: I subscribed to your channel, (you have this video to thank for!) So, here is (me personal) opinion/experience when it comes to Apple/iOS & Windows. I was 15yrs old when i started to build my own pc's. Back then mostly known as "pc tuning." Lol! I started out with buying a Windows pc from HP. And when that one died (in just one year.) I decided to start trying to "build" and choose my own pc parts. I really enjoyed doing so! My last Windows pc was a $4000 pc. Which had Win7 pro on it. I really loved the fact that you could add RAM, or SSD's/HDD's, etc etc... I loved the the fact that i could use led powered fans with different colors. (Same for the CPU coolers.) Which at the time, i mostly used Zalman for these things because they were quiet and very cool effective. (At least in my experience.) I had the (back then) very expensive Zalman GT1000 case. Which was a really beautiful all metal case! Very good with HDD absorbent rubber etc... I have a (rather bad video, filmed with what looks like a potato) on my channel/profile. When it came to phones, i started out with a gifted Panasonic and then started to buy Nokia's. Much like most 90's kids i presume. I also had an Ericsson (i believe a T10.) Which had the Axel Foley tune on... 😅 Anyway! One day i decided to buy an iPhone 5 and man, what an experience! It was like no other phone. (Again, for me personally.) I really loved everything about it! Now, in 2009 i was diagnosed with leukemia and i had long stays at the hospitals. So i wanted a computer (laptop.) But i knew i didn't want a Windows laptop because those were really unreliable, especially at those times, either the battery or the hdd failed so dramatically that i thought by myself: I'm going for a Macbook Pro. And so i did. Once i came home, i decided to buy a 27" Apple Cinema display and right there, i was sold. I never looked back at my $4000 Windows machine again. And i switched completely. I really loved everything about the Mac. Yes, the eco-system is really a "thing" in the Mac world. The experience is just great and there is no comparison in my opinion. You have an iPhone, or a Macbook/Pro and a Desktop? If you have one or 2 Apple products, i mean, they just work so well with each other. I can't explain this, you really have to experience for yourself. It's like you, going with your mice between the desktop and the laptop. It's simple, yet effective and there are many examples of this. That being said, yes, the mice is small and stupidly designed (especially the charging method.) But it does work for me. Scrolling and zooming on web pages, again, is an experience you just don't have with Windows based machines. (Or maybe now you do? I wouldn't know.) But it's so responsive and fluid, it's just on another level. Now, all that being said, yes, the prices for upgrading our OUTRAGEOUS! I can't agree more with you on that! If you look at the RAM and SSD asking prices, i mean, that's just not normal. Now, while these internal SSD's are very fast, i don't think anyone should pay $2K+ for storage and RAM. That's just crazy. Though, it is a bit hypocritical for me to say because i have a 2019 Mac Pro with 8TB internal SSD. But i just didn't want do go with 256gb. I'm a hoarder when it comes to files, music & video. So, that's my own fault though. Anyway, sorry for my long comment. But with my limited English, i like to elaborate a lot on some things. I do think Mac's are overpriced at some times. But there is also the "experience" that you get with it. ***My use cases for my Mac Pro are: Adobe suit (mostly Photoshop, Illustrator & lightroom.) Logic Pro X & Final Cut Pro X.

You can do the mouse thing on windows using Microsoft Power Toys "Mouse without borders". But after testing both, Power Toys is deffinitely buggier than the Mac solution. Sometimes my mouse and keyboard clicks doesn't register so I have to go back and fourth between the different devices to "refersh" the connection. And I've found that it just flat out doesn't work when windows is locked. Meaning I can't use it to unlock/login to a locked network computer.

Honestly, I don't hate MacOS. It takes time getting used yeah, but in some ways I like it more then windows (I have both a gaming rig and an m1 pro) but what i absolutely hate, is how expensive it is, and the upgradability. Also, if MacOS supported GPUs still aside from Apple's and they had better game support, I probably would switch all the way. As it stand, I use my Macbook for distraction free work, and my gaming rig for literally everything else.

Why would you get the studio when you already have a macbook sitting right there? The macbook it just as good except i think they only allow one monitor connected to it for some odd reason. Macs are just so underpowered for what people pay but they are beautiful machines but its just not worth it unless your rich and want something that looks cool sitting there and dont game or plan on doing any heavy work loads.

Well, he has an extra branch on his decision tree most of us don't have, and that is, 'will this make for interesting content'. Next would be to have some kind of parity to his old setup in having a dedicated desktop. Throw in some ecosystem experiences, seeing if there are any advantages in the Studio over the MacBook Pro and the ability to drive his existing monitor setup, makes sense to me. Besides, come the end of the experiment, we'll probably get some of the answers for why directly from him in a follow up video.

I highly recommend Crossover (made by codeweavers) for running games (and other windows programs/exe files) on Mac. Also that Mac has to have at least 16GB of ram because the 14-inch MBP only comes with 16GB of ram until just this month and that’s the M3 variant. It also would be an M2 pro which is double the capability of a regular M2.

Whenever I get those scam callers from ‘Microsoft’ I love the confusion it causes when they tell me to press a windows key or press the start button and I say I can’t find them. Sometimes they get really ratty and that’s when I say I don’t understand why Microsoft are calling about my Apple Mac anyway..they hang up. I don’t actually have one but they don’t know that.

When I was in college my dad let me use his work laptops to do some dev work and his 2015 MacBook Pro 15 would always feel faster and snappier than the super-expensive Dell mobile workstation that on-paper should blow it out of the water. Ever since then I’ve always gained a sense of respect for Apple hardware and I’ve switched between macOS and Windows. There are sometimes where I feel “it just works” and sometimes where I feel “damn it Apple why”. As a software engineer Apple definitely works better for a lot of dev work, and if college and work is any experience unfortunately a lot of devs just want a device where they can type away on without caring about the hardware that’s underneath

I didn’t find ANY and I went back two years. I’m not interested in those KZbinrs, they exist to provide confirmation bias to PC users. I am really interested in hearing how difficult you found learning a new OS, if you fully immersed using only native apps or mixed it with familiar cross platform apps and if 30 days is enough time for a computer literate person to master or feel comfortable using a new platform professionally.

I don't get the hate for Macs just because they're expensive. Do people hate Ferrari's because they're expensive? Or Porches? It's just a silly argument in my opinion and always has been. Just get what you want, or can afford. The levels of aggression people have towards those who use a different companies products is pretty pathetic. I hate Windows, I love Macs. I use both, they have their place and do their respective things. I don't hate Windows USERS, but whenever I say I use a Mac I'm suddenly a target. It's pathetic. It used to be like this with iOS and Android, but as iOS has taken more of the market, it's much rarer these days outside of the more dedicated channels. But the Mac hate has never ended and I don't get it. It's like... you sound upset that someone likes something you don't (not you, I mean in general). The "PC Master Race" crowd are especially hateful to anything outside of their very specific bubble of hardware and software. I guess the irony washes over them of the term coined by the legendary Yahtzee.
