I will definitely try to make this soap in the spring - thanks. It really bugged me to pay huge amounts of money for laundry detergents. I purchased a Beron laundry ball for my washing machine and it really surprised me how well it does my laundry. Because I like the scent of laundry detergent, I usually add a few tablespoons of Mrs. Meyers or Dreft ... but, wow! That laundry ball has REALLY saved us a lot of money. I hadn't heard about them until fairly recently.

I’ve use this so many times, but I used it in powder form versus using the liquid version of it. I didn’t have very many issues with it. There was a couple of times I couldn’t get the stain out and had to use something a little stronger but other than that, you’re right, it literally does clean the clothes well and it doesn’t cost very much at all to make! Never thought about using this as a dish soap I’m gonna have to give that a try because I have a dish soap container, almost empty and next month I’m gonna give us a shot and see if it’ll do just as well on my dishes

I recommend making the powdered form n storing it powdered, bc it stores best. But since the liquid works best in the washer, take out 1 load worth, mixed with hot water to melt storing until use in something small like a baby food jar.

My mother and I washed our laundry by hand on a washboard up until I was about 14/15. We always used Foca or Ariel powder laundry soap and a bar of Zote. We did about a small scoop, about 1/2 cup of powdered detergent for a large 10 gal washtub, about 3-5 gal of hot water, put our load of clothes, and let them soak for about 15-20 mins. Then we use the bar of Zote to rub a bit in them to lather up and then use the washboard. Our clothes were super clean, smelled great too! It was hard work, especially the socks and dad's jeans (he worked in the fields), bit it was also a workout! I now have a washer and dryer, but one of the first things I bought when I got married 22 yrs ago was a large galvanized steel wash tub and a washboard. I still have them because they are my back up if power ever goes out and/or my machines.

Zote soap is a really good soap. Comes in pink (best smell) and white. Made in Mexico. Also has built in brighteners. In Southern US States is used for catfish bait. Works well! Cut in small chunks..enough to cover hook you are using. Can use Zote for many other things like Tessie does. I use it for various things also. Smells really good too! Never made the laundry soap but have grated it and put some in regular laundry. They dont make it in liquid form yet but heard they were working on it.

Tessie, every time you do an outdoor/over-the-fire video like this, I'm reminded again of all that our ancestors did and endured to get (and keep) their homesteads up and running. Winter time involved a lot more than sitting by the fireside knitting hats and darning socks! Wives still had to get out, feed the chickens, gather eggs, bring in firewood, haul water and hang laundry on the line. When you said the words "one cup," there were two big "puffs" of visible breath coming out of your mouth! Now that is *cold*! We have this cold front barreling in also here in Ohio. I don't think I've ever been more grateful for having a furnace than I am right now. A literal godsend! I feel so sorry for homeless people this time of year. What a fantastic way to save lots of money! 8 months of laundry soap, dish detergent, and household cleaning soap. It's hard to believe that the $$ saved would be less than $300 or so. That is good stewardship! I'm so sorry to hear that views are down, Tessie! For the life of me, I really don't understand it. Subscriber numbers seem to be up. Your videos are creative and fun while also being a great teaching tool. (I talk about you all the time with friends and family and I have a feeling lots of your other subscribers do too.) Is it possible that people have the mistaken impression that you're making enormous amounts of money for doing your product reviews? You certainly haven't given that impression that I can recall... I'll try to let some of your older videos play while I'm doing tasks at home. In the meantime... many, many prayers as well! ♥♥♥

I love homemade laundry soap! I don’t use Zote instead I use FelsNaptha. I just grate the soap along with washing soda and baking soda. I use it dry in a powdered form. I never have had a problem with it not dissolving or clumping on clothing. I put it at the bottom of the washing machine, just two tablespoons for a whole load. It is so economical! I’m having trouble finding FelsNaptha at the grocery so I may give Zote a try. I’ve never looked back to anything commercial. I have used this for about 25 years. I also had an appliance repairman tell me he also made his own soap. It’s easier on your washing machine - keeps your machine cleaner and better for the environment. Saves you A ton of money!
