Who cares? Incredible hulk didn't make sense either. But, most people like the character. I still like the hulk fella. Noticed in these clips, he went from pulling handcuffs apart (impossible with only 1 bionic arm) in an earlier episode, to squeezing open a link in the chain with his bionic hand (makes much more sense. . .) in a later season. At least they made the effort!

For those of you who don't know, Monte Markham, who plays the Seven million dollar man, was actually in competition for the role of Steve Austin. Markham had the look and charisma of the original cold-blooded killer character in Martin Caidin's novel Cyborg, as a special ops assassin for the US government, but it was decided by studio execs to be too dark for the role if they wanted the series to last. So in came Lee Majors who was much more wholesome and appealing and added a small bit of humor to the role, to entice adults and children, like me, to watch and love the series.
@shrapnel77 Жыл бұрын
While Markham was a good actor and did the role well, he did not have the star power of Majors.

Brilliant!!!!!! Loved it!!!! Although I first saw The Six Million Dollar Man during it’s original network run, I have rewatched the series on DVD a few times. And my favorite episodes, a few times more than that! Seeing this “beat-down” sequence, I can’t help but reflect upon what actual damage a bionic man could REALLY do to “normal” assailants. By design, the show (aimed at a family-friendly market) “nerfed” bionic power to a considerable degree. I’d opine that bionic punches and kicks could easily disembowel and even decapitate an opponent. Also, the power Six-Mil could project by running or jumping could easily destroy a human being. Or an automobile. In my “head canon” for the show, Col. Austin held back so as not to kill the bad guys. Lee Majors did a great job bringing the character to life.

Talk about an "upgrade". Before he got his bionics (after his almost fatal accident) he was a helpless invalid lying in a hospital bed needing nurses to take care of him all day. He probably even needed help going to the bathroom. AFTER getting the bionics a larger than life combination of super hero and astronaut. That is a HUGE upgrade....
@daveleidy59842 жыл бұрын
Forgot to mention that it was Lee Majors that made it work. I don’t think anyone else could have been so likable as Steve. He played the role with the right amount of humor and toughness. He made you believe they picked Steve because he would know how to handle the Incredible power they gave him. I watched all the episodes as a kid and do now as an adult. If I’m not mistaken, they trusted Steve so much with the power that they never bothered building a “Fail Safe” device to stop him if he went rouge. At least I don’t remember them talking about one.
@sevinstorey43652 жыл бұрын
I agree totally. FR. He also made me believe he was a dang good Hollywood stuntman AND bounty hunter in the same show,…”The Fall Guy” a couple years after this show. The timing was perfect too, I was young enough to believe in this show all the way, and then they popped out Fall Guy about the time I was starting puberty and trying to be a tough guy myself. Def made a positive impression on my growing up right.

A lot of people like to point out scientific impracticabilities in the show, nitpicking it all instead of just enjoying the awesomeness of it, the style, the swag of it all... And your editing and music made it quite enjoyable, might I add. I can say as a kid, I like to pretend that the bionics in his body were not pure mechanics, but a result of some unique technology that used biological energy in a enhanced fashion. Hence why they didn't need batteries or recharging. And it had effect on the rest of his body, making it more durable, fast as stronger (albeit not as much as is bionics) as well as it effecting the kinetic energy and force he used... Explaining how a dang football 🏈 could shatter a rifle buttstock and so forth.

Hmmm you should study the modern American anthropology like you would study any tribe (the American ethos, values, constitution, the immense history of each of the 50 states, myths, false creeds or false expectations, the Hollywood landscape and themes and finally their broadcast TV...) Since the end of 30s the American pop culture together with a certain degree of scientific knowledge has believed in the usage of mini nuclear batteries in all type of gadgets and machines everywhere. It is clear even to a Brazilian boy that Steve Austin would be using nuclear batteries to power his legs and his arm. Brazil.

Love most of the added sound effects. The farts are timed exceptionally well. Everybody needs a few laughs, now and then. I liked this show and watched it when I could. I don't remember Big George Foreman being on it. He done good, looks like. Thanks for the laughs.

There was one episode that was really awesome, where he runs in high speed, like in the opening sequence. The football episode, when he's running down the mountain after the car. Best 10 seconds in the entire series. They should have used that high speed effect more, instead of the slow motion one. Lee Majors directed that one. Season 3 episode 11, one of our running backs is missing

Seriously one of the best videos I've seen all year! Thank you so much! Can you please do one for Wonder Woman, The Bionic Woman, The Incredible Hulk (from the 70's series), Isis, Shazam (from the 70's series), Batman (from the 60's series), Green Hornet (from the 60's series), Kolchak The Night Stalker, Hong Kong Phooey, and Kung Fu 9from the 70's series, if you haven't already done so. The video isn't over as I write so I haven't checked your channel yet.

Way before T2 with Arnold there was The Six Million Dollar Man with Lee Majors. Long before Stone Cold Steve Austin there was Colonel Steve Austin.

Terminator 1984 is way cooler than this show... I guess this show paved way for the Terminator 1984 movie...

@@chrisblack7226 I think there was a shift during the 80s. The monsters, villains, and antiheroes definitely began to become more popular than the heroes. I think it started with The Terminator. And Stone Cold is definitely an antihero.

@@duprez2 Yeah, being a hero wearing human feces color leather jackets sucks real bad. Lower ratings, lesser viewers, etc... I ain't ever wanna b a hero wearing ugly human feces color leather jackets. I agree with u villains and antiheros were more popular than the heros...

@@duprez2 Tell me more about this "Six Million Dollar Man"... I gotta read so many comments to learn about these old classics...

@@chrisblack7226 The Six Million Dollar Man is a scifi tv show from the early 70s. It's about an astronaut who was in a near fatal crash landing. His two legs, right arm, and left eye were destroyed and amputated. His eye and limbs were replaced with artificial, super enhanced, Bionic limbs and eye. The procedure cost 6 million dollars hence the name of the tv show. In return Steve Austin, the lead character, became a government operative, agent, or spy. He was probably the first Cyborg character in tv and films. Unlike The Terminator he's more human than machine.
